Chapter 12
Once the burn on my wrist had completely faded, Jayce took me to pick out an evening gown.
Outside the boutique, Liam appeared before me once more for the first time in a long time, holding a bouquet of lisianthuses.
“I’m not marrying Vivi anymore, Michelle. I’ve finally worked out my feelings recently. You’re the only person I like now!” he said.
I turned my head away, feeling slightly disgusted. The moment I saw him, the scene of him kneeling and proposing to Vivi on my birthday replayed more and more vividly in my mind.
Despite that, Liam was now telling me he actually liked me with those lips that had already kissed another woman. How ridiculous.
I couldn’t even be bothered to spare him a glance. With his current unkempt, unshaven appearance, Liam was more insignificant than a hair on Jayce’s head.
I held onto Jayce’s arm and circled around Liam, but he ran over and grabbed my wrist.
He held Vivi’s numerous medical records up in front of me and explained, “Vivi doesn’t have bone cancer. She lied to us. If I’d known she wasn’t sick, I would never have chosen to get engaged to her!
“I’m begging you to look, Michelle! Please just look at these! I’m really not lying to you!”
Jayce was afraid that I would be moved by the sight of Liam crying and begging with bloodshot eyes. As such, he quickly pulled my hand out of Liam’s grasp.
“I recommend you have some self–respect, Liam Sherman! You’d best stop having inappropriate thoughts about my wife!” he snapped protectively.
As soon as those words left his mouth, I also lifted my hand and threw away the insignificant pieces of scrap paper he’d brandished in front of me.
What did the authenticity of Vivi’s illness have to do with me? All I knew were the things he’d once done, things that wouldn’t be written off just because of these fake medical records.
I was also unable to just pretend that nothing had happened and continue to remain by his side. Liam’s demands were completely unrealistic.
The medical records were scattered all over the ground.
When I noticed Jayce’s jealous expression, I moved closer to him, feeling fond. I stepped over the scattered papers without sparing Liam another glance.
Back when Liam had thrown my resignation letter and handover documents at me, had he ever imagined that he’d one day be kneeling on the ground and begging me tearfully for forgiveness?
It was impossible to turn back time, and it was impossible for me to forgive him. However, hating someone was a waste of energy, so the best solution was to treat Liam as a stranger
Yet, Liam still refused to give up. He crawled to his feet and rushed at Jayce with his fists raised. “It’s all because of you! You were the one who got between us! You’re the one that stole Michelle away!”
Jayce let go of my hand and let Liam knock him to the ground in order to protect me.
I hurriedly yelled for the security guards outside the boutique.
This was a high–end boutique that offered personal customisation services. The customers who ordered dresses from here were either rich or from noble families. As such, they had a duty and obligation to protect their customers.
Liam was quickly subdued by the security guards and pressed to the ground.

I didn’t even glance at his way. Instead, I rushed to help Jayce up, my eyes filled with distress.
Seeing this through the mass of bodies, Liam finally understood that he no longer had a place in my heart.
He’d lost the woman who’d once only had eyes for him, and I had also found a lover who only had eyes for me to call my own.
