Chapter 256
Elle’s POV
49
It had been over ten days since Brad stormed out of our room, and he hadn’t returned once. Not even a phone call. It was as if he’d simply vanished from Moonshade Bay entirely, leaving me alone in this massive estate that suddenly felt more like a prison than a home.
I stared at the ceiling above our bed, watching the shadows shift as dawn crept through the heavy curtains. Another sleepless night. My eyes burned from
exhaustion, but sleep refused to come.
The morning light finally forced me from bed, and I made my way downstairs for my routine pregnancy checkup. Dr. Harrison, the pack’s physician, conducted his examination with the same professional efficiency as always, confirming that both the baby and I were healthy. But even his reassuring words couldn’t lift the weight pressing down on my chest.
As I walked back toward the main living area, I noticed Martha acting strangely. She was trying to hide something behind her back, her face flushed with obvious guilt.
“What are you hiding?” I asked, approaching her slowly.
Martha’s face went pale.
“Hand it over,” I said firmly, extending my hand.
Martha sighed heavily, her shoulders sagging in defeat. “Mrs. Rayne, I really think you shouldn’t… in your condition…” But she reluctantly placed the folded newspaper in my hands.
The Moonshade Bay Daily.
I unfolded it with trembling fingers, and my world tilted on its axis. The entertainment section’s headline screamed at me in bold letters: “Rayne Group Alpha CEO Spotted at Nightclub, Mysterious Female Companion Identified as Famous Singer.”
Below the headline was a photograph that made my blood run cold. Brad, looking devastatingly handsome in his signature black suit, was photographed with a stunning werewolf woman pressed intimately against him, their faces so close they were almost touching. Her hand rested possessively on his chest, and there was something in the way they looked at each other…
My brain went completely blank.
The room started spinning. I stumbled backward, my hand instinctively reaching out to steady myself against the nearest wall.
“Mrs. Rayne!‘ Martha rushed to my side, along with two other staff members who had witnessed my distress.
I shook my head weakly, forcing myself to breathe. “I’m fine. I’m just… I need to sit down for a moment.”
Brad, is this your way of getting revenge on me?
I drained the glass in one gulp, but the thick liquid caught in my throat, triggering a violent coughing fit.
‘Mrs. Rayne! Martha exclaimed, immediately moving to call for the pack physician.
I grabbed her arm, still coughing. ‘I’m okay… I’m okay…”

Martha rubbed my back gently, helping me catch my breath. When the coughing finally subsided, she asked, ‘Would you like something to eat?”
I waved her off. ‘I don’t have any appetite…”
Just then, the doorbell chimed. One of the staff members hurried to answer it, returning moments later with an announcement that made me look up in
surprise.
‘It’s Sophia Luke, Beta of the Frostclaw Pack.”
‘Please, show her in,” I said, slowly rising to my feet and smoothing my hand over my forehead.
Sophia swept into the room like a winter storm.
“Elle, are you alright? I heard about Brad recently…” she began, her voice filled with genuine concern.
My face went pale at the mention of his name, but I quickly forced a smile. “What could possibly be wrong with me?”
Her gaze dropped to my prominent belly, and her expression softened. “God, look how big you’ve gotten! Last time I left, you were barely showing!”
I managed a genuine smile at that. “Yes, the pack physicians say mixed–blood fetuses develop very quickly. The baby’s growing beautifully. I have about two
months left before my due date.”
Sophia grabbed my hands and pulled me back down onto the sofa. “How many days has it been since Brad left the estate?”
I had to think about it. “Maybe… ten days or so?”
Sophia looked exasperated. “Martha,‘ she called out, “help Elle get dressed. I’m taking her out for some fresh air. Don’t worry, I won’t take her anywhere
dangerous.”
Martha nodded and summoned the female staff to help me select appropriate maternity wear. Within an hour, I was dressed in an elegant outfit that accommodated my growing belly, and Sophia was leading me out of the estate.
The drive was peaceful enough. Sophia kept up a steady stream of conversation about pack politics and business matters, clearly trying to distract me from whatever was troubling me. But as we pulled up to the entrance of Moonshade Bay’s most exclusive night club, my heart started racing for entirely different
reasons.
Sophia tossed her car keys to the valet and linked her arm through mine as we approached the entrance. The doorman bowed respectfully.
‘Beta Sophia, welcome back,” he said with obvious deference.
We had barely taken a few steps inside when I heard the doorman’s voice again, even more respectful this time: “Mr. Rayne, Mr. Harrison, Mr. Bailey!”
Both Sophia and I froze instantly. I could feel the familiar, overwhelming presence of Alpha wolves behind us.
I wanted to turn around, but I also desperately didn’t want to see him. The sound of multiple footsteps approached, and I could smell Brad’s distinctive scent growing stronger.
Sophia squeezed my arm and started walking faster, getting us away from the entrance.
As we moved deeper into the club, I heard more of their conversation floating after us:

“She came back today? I thought she wasn’t returning from Canada until tomorrow, Lester said awkwardly.
The werewolf singer hanging on Brad’s arm pouted prettily. Brad, what’s wrong with you guys? Why did everyone suddenly get so gloomy? Is it because of
that human pregnant woman?”
Brad’s voice was barely audible: “Let’s go.”
But I was close enough to hear Roy’s playful response: “Little beauty, what entertainment do you have planned for tonight?”
The werewolf woman giggled. “Oh, Alpha Roy, you’re such a tease! Whatever we do is up to you!”
Finally, Sophia and I were led into one of the club’s luxurious private rooms. The moment the door closed behind us, I collapsed onto the plush seating, my legs suddenly too weak to support me.
Sophia settled beside me, her expression thoughtful. She didn’t say anything about what we’d just witnessed, but I could see the wheels turning in her mind.
I closed my eyes and tried to push away the image of that werewolf woman pressed against Brad.
Message received, Brad. Loud and clear.
