Chapter 258
Elle’s POV
I didn’t want to deal with this werewolf woman whose name I vaguely remembered as Skylar. I turned around, ready to walk away.
But the werewolf singer suddenly blocked my path, her eyes flashing with that distinctive golden light that all werewolves possessed.
“I’m not done talking yet, don’t be in such a hurry to leave, human!” Skylar’s voice dripped with condescension.
I stopped, feeling a familiar wave of annoyance wash over me. What the hell was wrong with this woman?
‘I don’t know who you are, but you should recognize me, right?” Skylar continued, her voice getting louder and more self–important. “I’m practically a
legendary figure in the music industry. Naturally, I wouldn’t stoop to arguing with someone like you, a human.”
She gestured dramatically around the wine cellar. “You think you can actually afford it?”
I stared at her, genuinely baffled. What the fuck is wrong with this woman? I didn’t provoke her at all. What’s her problem? She’s stealing someone else’s mate
and still acting this arrogant – seriously?
“Then what?” I asked flatly.
The werewolves around us had started to take notice of our confrontation. I heard whispers beginning to circulate.
“Oh my god, isn’t that Skylar? I heard she’s been getting close to the Alpha Brad lately! And I heard the Rayne family has been having internal conflicts recently – Brad Alpha hasn’t been home in a long time, he’s been staying with this Skylar.”
“Yeah, I heard about that too. I thought it was just gossip at first, but the day before yesterday I actually saw this Skylar with Brad Alpha entering a hotel.
“Huh? How did he start looking for other werewolves so quickly?”
‘How could an Alpha be satisfied with just a human for long?”
The werewolves turned their attention to me, examining my appearance with critical eyes.
I listened to the surrounding werewolves‘ gossip and Skylar’s provocations, feeling the malice of racial discrimination, but I kept my expression calm. Today, for comfort, I had chosen a very form–fitting outfit. The whole ensemble cost maybe a few thousand dollars. But I didn’t care about these racial prejudices.
Skylar continued her taunts, lowering her voice to a warning tone. “I’m doing this for your own good! If you can’t afford it, don’t embarrass yourself! Do you know that any bottle of blood wine in this cellar costs more than your entire outfit?”
She leaned closer, her voice becoming more threatening. “I don’t know how you managed to catch Brad Alpha’s attention, and I don’t care what kind of charm you have that made Brad Alpha stop for you. But none of that matters to me as long as you stay far away from him.”
Looks like this werewolf songstress Skylar really doesn’t recognize who I am.
‘So Ms. Skylar knows Brad Alpha already has a mate with a partner at home?” I asked coolly.
‘Running around publicly with a mated Alpha – is that really appropriate?”

Skylar snorted dismissively. So fucking what? How many Alphas stay satisfied with just their human mates forever? What right does some human like you have to judge? What exactly is your deal with Brad Alpha anyway? You’re talking like you know him pretty damn well.”
“Very well!‘ I replied steadily.
Skylar’s eyes flashed dangerously. ‘You shameless bitch! If you know what’s good for you, you better get lost right now, or else…”
‘Or else what?” I shot back.
Skylar’s face twisted with rage, and she raised her hand to strike me, her werewolf claws slightly extending.
I looked up at her fearlessly, not backing down an inch.
Suddenly, a large hand appeared out of nowhere, grabbing Skylar’s wrist firmly. The newcomer was Roy Bailey, Alpha of Moonlake Pack.
‘Skylar,” Roy said calmly.
Roy looked at me with mild exasperation. “You were just gonna stand there and let her clock you?
“Where the hell was I supposed to go in this narrow space? Plus she’s a werewolf and I’m just a regular human,” I shrugged.
Roy turned back to Skylar. “You can go apologize to Brad yourself.”
Skylar looked confused. “Alpha Roy, what do you mean? This human woman
you know her too?”
Roy’s expression grew serious. “Don’t you remember what Brad Alpha said to you when he first met you?
Skylar’s face went through a series of emotions before realization dawned, and she collapsed to her knees on the floor, her face pale as death.
‘She… she… she is… Elle West? Brad Alpha’s human mate?”
Roy gestured to his assistant. “Are my people taking you back, or are you going yourself?”
“Take Skylar to Brad Alpha.”
After Skylar was escorted away, Roy turned to me with a slight smile.
‘You…” he began.
‘No need, I can pay, for myself, I interrupted, signaling to the server. “Please send this to my room.”
Roy chuckled. “Then, can we talk privately? Just consider it payment for me heroically saving you
–
honor me with a cup of coffee?”
I looked at him and couldn’t help but smile. I nodded, figuring Sophia was probably still sleeping off her massage.
Roy gestured gallantly. “Please-‘
At the coffee shop, I ordered. ‘I’ll have a Dutch milk.”
“Make that two Dutch milks, Roy added. “I’ve been hitting the wolf liquor way too hard at pack meetings lately – my stomach’s killing me.”

I cut straight to the chase. “So what did you really want to talk about?”
Roy put on an exaggerated hurt expression. “Ouch can’t a guy just buy a lady coffee without having an agenda?”
Then he got serious. “Okay, fine, you got me. I’m just curious – you really are a Blair?”
‘Yeah. Wait a minute…” I paused carefully. “Brad didn’t send you to pump me for information or anything?”
No, this is just me being nosy. When you two first got together, I could tell there was something real between you. That’s pretty rare with human–Alpha pairings. So how’d things get so fucked up?‘
I let out a long breath. “It’s… complicated.”
I’ve got time if you want to tell me this whole story.”
