Kylie’s eyes filled with panic. She yanked the rag from my mouth, her voice shrill with desperation.[]
“You’re really Rachel Caldwell?“[]
Blood seeped from the corner of my mouth as I let out a cold laugh.
“Believe it now? You better get my brother to a hosp–“[]
Before I could finish, Kylie slapped me hard across the face.[]

I rolled desperately on the ground in agony, but the flames wouldn’t be extinguished.[]
Perhaps my screams were too piercing–Felix slowly opened his eyes from his coma.[]

Felix’s eyes widened in horror, and grief gave him the strength to break free from the ropes binding his hands and feet.]

Fighting through the searing pain, I shook my head frantically at him.]
“Don’t! Don’t save me, Felix! You’ll die too! Don’t come any closer!”

The moment his hands touched the flames, they were seared black, skin peeling back to reveal raw pink flesh underneath.[]
His pained expression broke me–but the moment my tears welled up, the scorching heat burned them dry.[]
Felix never stopped, still forcing himself to appear strong to calm me.[]
