Marc turned to look at her. After a moment, he smiled at her. “So that’s the real reason.”

Margaery walked up to him. She hadn’t bought anything at all. She only wanted to excuse herself so that the two of them could be alone. And her ruse had garnered a positive outcome. “You seem… very pleased, Marc.
“I am.” Marc did not deny it.
Inside the carriage, Christina was almost dying of embarrassment, but having received Marc’s response, her heart surged with so much excitement that she wanted to run wildly outside.
“Well, please take us to our next destination, Marc.” Margaery got into the carriage, grinning from ear to ear.
Marc chuckled softly as he boarded his own carriage.
His attendant was dumbfounded, “Sir, you have settled… just like that? Aren’t you going to choose?”
“No need to choose.” Marc examined the pouch in his hand.
The pouch looked rather old, which meant Christina had been thinking about him for many years.
Rather than picking someone he was totally unfamiliar with, he might as well choose her.
Besides, she looked… quite adorable.
Meanwhile, in the other carriage…
Margaery looked at Christina with a beaming smile, “Now, are you satisfied? In the future, if you have something on your mind, just say it. Whether others agree or not, speak up first and see what happens.”
Christina buried her head in Margaery’s shoulder without any decorum. “Argh! I can’t face anyone anymore! I thought he was gentle and refined, but he turned out to be so cunning!
“He did it on purpose! He deliberately made me say it!”
Christina could imagine the expression Marc had just now outside the carriage.
This fellow was simply too wicked.
Margaery felt a sweet sensation welling up in her heart that she hadn’t felt for a long time. Perhaps this was the most ordinary, most genuine, and most adorable side of human life.
She then asked Christina, “Don’t you like this aspect of him?”
Christina’s head jolted up upon hearing this. Her face had grown redder now.
She whispered in Margaery’s ear, “He seems… even more charming than I imagined”
Yes, the long–held belief that girls only liked had boys…
In this case, it was not that Mare was a bad character, but rather, he was not boring.
Margaery’s face lit up with a genuine smile. “Then I’ll be waiting to attend your wedding”

Perhaps, Christina would soon become her sister–in–law.
As for her and Dashnell, it seemed they still had a long road ahead.
Before long, they arrived at the front gate of the Eames family’s estate.

Margaery and Christina got out of the carriage and saw Marc, who had just gotten out as well. He was grinning in their direction.
Christina couldn’t handle it and darted behind Margaery in a flash. “Um, I want to go home…”
She didn’t dare face Marc anymore.
Margaery grabbed her. “You promised to keep me company.”
“I… I…” Christina wanted so badly to bury her head in the ground. In the end, she braced herself and walked toward the front gate, but didn’t dare look at Marc again.
Marc, however, studied her closely.
In fact, he had known this young lady for a long time. He had seen her many times, and vaguely remembered… Had he saved her once?
Was it because of that incident that this girl set her sights on him?
Marc was a little puzzled, but after recovering himself, he chuckled under his breath. ‘So, our paths are destined to cross…”
Since it was destined, he was happy to go along with it.
The gate attendant went in to announce their arrival.
A moment later, Phillipa came flying like a gust of wind. “It’s so rare for me to get three days off. I was just about to go visit you!”
After speaking, she grew indignant again. “Last night, after leaving the palace, I heard that scoundrel, Joshua Wallen, pretended to be me to invite you out. I was so angry I couldn’t sleep all night!”
Margaery looked at her with some emotion. “That matter is already over now. I couldn’t have made it this far without your help, Phillipa.”
“What are you saying? Come inside quickly!” Phillipa was not a fussy person, and she was unbothered by fastidious formalities. She then turned to Christina and Marc. “Let’s go. It’s too cold out here. We can chat inside.”
Thus, the whole group headed for the main hall, chatting and laughing.
A maid approached and said, “Miss Margaery, our Master cordially invites you and your guests to his chamber.”
Margaery was taken aback. “Mr. Osmond Eames wants to see me?”
“Come on, my grandfather hasn’t allowed guests into his chamber for a long time. If he’s inviting you, it means he considers you family,” Phillipa urged as she mulled over the lamentable circumstances surrounding her grandfather.
Four years ago, her grandfather was still the Lord of Warfare.
If not for that serious illness, her grandfather would not have confined himself to his chamber for four years. He refused to see anyone during this period.

Margaery nodded. “I also hope to pay my respects to him on this visit.”

“Gosh, Margaery! You are really brave. To think you have the guts to visit Mr. Osmond Eames!” Christina sounded a bit
nervous.
After all, this elderly man held one of the most prestigious positions in the court in the past.
Christina herself was just a young lady who knew nothing about worldly state affairs. Apart from greeting him, she wouldn’t know what else to say to him.
Marc was also somewhat surprised. He couldn’t figure out why Margaery wanted to see the reclusive Mr. Eames.
However, since he was already inside the residence, he couldn’t probe too much.
The group went together to the annex housing the elderly Osmond Eames.
The annex was very quiet. Apart from one attendant assigned to serve Osmond, there was no one else. A sense of desolation hung over this area.
At this juncture, Margaery spoke again. “Actually, I came here to check on Mr. Eames’s condition.”
Realization dawned on Phillipa suddenly. “Oh, that’s right. Your master seems quite skilled… though in the past, no one in Sinderin City has heard of him.”
If she had known this character earlier, she would have approached him long ago.
Margaery nodded. “Yes, my master is very skilled. I’ll go in and take a look first. If I can’t help him, I will ask my master to
come.”
“That would be great!” Phillipa said joyfully.
The group entered the chamber cautiously.
“Grandpa, Margaery, Christina, and General Marc Carey are here.” Phillipa approached the bed, where the elderly man lay propped up. Her eyes were filled with concern.
“Mm–hmm. Let them approach.” Osmond turned slowly to look at the group.
Margaery stepped forward and curtsied respectfully. “Greetings, Mr. Eames.”
Christina and Marc also stepped forward and paid their respects.
After everyone sat down, the elderly man spoke again. “I heard His Majesty has personally appointed you to serve by his side. I am quite surprised, so I wanted to meet you in person.”
He sized Margaery up with a thoughtful gaze. “Among the women in this king’s reign, you are the first who has been summoned to serve by the King’s side. Even the concubines and princesses do not enjoy such a privilege.”
Margaery did not know how to respond to this comment.
However, Osmond was not trying to make things difficult for her. He abruptly changed the subject and said, “As you are Phillipa’s friend, I invited you here because I wish to give you a word of advice.
“When you serve by His Majesty’s side, even if you are only preparing ink for His Majesty, you will incur resentment. All the concubines watch His Majesty closely to see who is constantly hanging out near him. After you enter the palace, you must be extremely cautious in all matters, including what you eat, wear, use, and how you conduct yourself.

“The harem is your new battlefield. Raul Wallen should have been the one to tell you these things.
“But you have lost your mother, and with such a father, you cannot rely on him either.”

Osmond sighed and reached out for a piece of paper. “You may use my name and approach the people listed here to ask for their help in times of crisis.”
Margaery was very grateful. She hurried forward to accept the document and curtsied. “Thank you, Mr. Eames!”
For a moment, she felt like crying.
She had only grown up alongside Phillipa, yet Osmond was willing to help her on account of his own granddaughter.
Her own biological father, on the other hand, wished nothing more than death for her.
Yet, the heavens were fair to her in the end.
Without the Wallen family, she seemed to thrive instead. Many people liked her.
Since there was no way she could repay an act of kindness like that, Margaery could only offer to give him a checkup. “Mr. Eames, if I may, I wish to give you a health checkup.
“My medical skills are not that good. If I cannot figure out what is ailing you, I will ask my master to examine you.”
Margaery explained everything concisely in one go.
