Chapter 257
Callum was about to probe further when one of his guards approached him hurriedly and reported, “Your Highness, the morning court session has ended. The outcome was unexpected…”
The guard spoke in a very low voice and delivered a lengthy report.
Afterward, Callum’s expression changed drastically. He glanced at Yohan and said, “Since Mr. Eames does not approve of my proposal, let us leave it at that for today.”
With that, he took his leave and departed quickly.
Prince Callum’s entourage arrived in a grand procession and left just as impressively with their gleaming gifts
The commoners watched in astonishment.
“What are they up to? They can simply come and go as they please?” one muttered.
“There have been so many strange events this year. None of them makes any sense…” Everyone shook their heads and began to disperse.
At this moment, a guard from the Carey family rushed up to Marc. “Sir, the palace has reached a decision.”
Margaery realized what had happened upon hearing this.
After Raul Wallen was deposed, every prince’s faction was eager to promote its own candidate. They spread all kinds of propaganda and were busy promoting their candidates.
But they did not know that the King’s true intention was to abolish the Chancellor’s role and concentrate power in his own hands!
Thus, the sudden emergence of a cabinet shocked everyone. All the factions were now equal in their influence.
How could the princes not be anxious?
Sure enough, the Carey family’s guard reported, “At today’s morning court session, everyone insisted on their own views and tried to push their candidates forward.
“But after listening, His Majesty did not accept anyone’s proposal. Instead, he announced the abolition of the Chancellor’s position and confirmed the establishment of a cabinet.
“Except for Prince Dashnell, the rest were the six Grand Academicians of Wellspring Hall, who were all unfamiliar faces. Everyone was dumbfounded. The decree has also been issued. Chamberlain Dough has gone to Prince Dashnell’s residence to announce that Prince Dashnell has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Wellspring Hall.
“The news has already spread.”
Marc narrowed his eyes after listening to the report. “Now, those who have been scheming and plotting these past two days have exposed themselves for nothing. I fear none of them will be able to sit still now.”
Margaery nodded. “Not to mention others, Crown Prince Nathaniel, Second Prince Marcus, and Third Prince Callum certainly won’t be able to sit still.”
She took a deep breath and added, “However, these matters have nothing to do with us for now. Let’s head back first.
Marc nodded and turned to Christina. “I’ll send Margaery back first so that she can proceed with the toxicology test. After

that, I will escort you back to your residence, Miss Christina.”
Christina’s face blushed again as she nodded shyly. “Sure.”
She would be alone with Marc on her way home…
Christina’s heartbeat drowned out everything else, and her whole being seemed to be floating.
Margaery immediately instructed the coachman. “Head to the outskirts and go to my master’s place.”
He had the necessary chemicals for the toxicology test, whereas she didn’t, not at the inn she was staying in.
And this matter must not be delayed.
She also signaled to her secret guard, Solon Hawke. “Go look for Dashnell and tell him to meet me at Master’s place. I want to discuss something with him.”
At first, she wanted to go directly to Prince Dashnell’s residence to look for Dashnell.
But she couldn’t, as it might arouse suspicion easily.
After the earlier confrontation, Margaery thought she wouldn’t run into anyone from the Wallen family anymore.
Who would have thought that halfway through her journey, just before reaching the outskirts, she would encounter Andrew Wallen, who was about to leave the city.
The snow on this stretch of road hadn’t been cleared.
There was only enough width for one carriage. When the two sides met, one side had to give way.
For a moment, they were caught in an impasse.
Margaery, unaware of the situation outside, lifted the curtain to take a look. She was going to tell the coachman to let the other party pass first.
But when she had a good look, she recognized Andrew.
In just a few days, Andrew seemed to have lost a lot of weight. His face was pale and sallow, and he no longer possessed his former imposing bearing.
After seeing her, Andrew silently urged his horse toward the snow berm at the edge of the path to make way for her carriage.
At first, he wanted to call out to Margaery.
In the end, he did not do so. He lowered his gaze as he moved out of the way.
The remorse and humiliation dug deep into his heart. At seventeen, he became the executioner who brutally ended his own younger sister’s life.
He could never forget what he did for the rest of his life.
It was a darkness branded upon his soul that was impossible to erase.
“So it’s Andrew Wallen,” Christina muttered as she held Margaery’s hand in her warm palm. “Margaery, don’t be sad. From now on, you have us.”

She then sneaked a glance at Marc as her cheeks became flushed again.
Marc also nodded. “From now on, we will have nothing to do with the Wallen family.”
Margaery simply shrugged. “I don’t care anymore.”

Raul Wallen’s descent to this point stemmed from being trapped in the quagmire of rejection he faced in his youth, a trap from which he could never extricate himself. Gradually, he became so twisted that he ultimately destroyed everything.
Margaery had died once, and now could see these things clearly.
She would not repeat Raul’s mistakes. She would leave behind her hatred for the Wallen family and strive for a loftier and broader world. She would soar to the heights of officialdom without forgetting the hardships of the commoners. She would travel far and wide in the kingdom without forgetting her duties to the state.
She would not spend her whole life fighting the Wallen family.
They were not worth her wasting her life.
Christina and Marc felt relieved by her response. “Let’s go then.”
No one paid any attention to Andrew anymore.
Andrew watched the carriage depart sullenly. As the curtain flapped in the wind, he caught sight of Marc and Christina inside.
His heart felt as if it were being cut by a knife.
The younger sister he once discarded like an old shoe now had a new elder brother. That man was gentle and kind, and a renowned scholar–general of the court. He was exemplary in both character and ability.
In every respect, he was superior to the five brothers of the Wallen family.
As for the Carey family, the clan dated back more than 100 years in Sinderin City. The family members were renowned for their integrity and honesty, with a reputation that spread far and wide.
The daughter, disliked by the Wallen family, was favored by the King.
The daughter abandoned by the Wallen family was taken in by the Carey family.
The fiancée despised by Dominic Hadley was embraced affectionately by Prince Dashnell.
The girl they kicked out was accepted by the Chapel of Wisdom, the Nine Imperial Halls, and the Stormshade Hall.
Just now, Grace McKay’s attendant brought Andrew the latest news from the palace.
The King had abolished the Chancellor’s position and instead established a new Cabinet. He also conferred upon Margaery a noble title.
From now on, she would be Margaery of Glowsend, His Majesty’s appointed Imperial Seal Bearer. Starting the day after tomorrow, she would serve the King every other day. She would have the chance to stand close to the core of this kingdom’s power. And she would have the opportunity to learn directly from the monarch.
These were achievements that Andrew and his family never dared to even imagine.
Margaery had lived with them and had grown up with them.

Now, they had fallen so low while Margaery had risen so high. Henceforth, she would cast her eyes down on the world beneath her feet as she stood at a lofty height which they could never aspire to.
As he pondered over these things, Andrew began weeping for himself.
In the end, there was no turning back.
He drove the carriage out of the city and headed for the frigid northern territory. He did not know when he would return
At the city gate, he looked back at Sinderin City.
He gazed in the direction of the royal palace…
Where would Margaery be when he returned?
As much as he tried, Andrew’s limited imagination only conjured up images of Margaery becoming Prince Dashnell’s consort and then, later, the Queen Consort.
Never in his wildest dreams could he have imagined on that fateful day three years later, when all eyes were upon her, she would be the official consort to the current Chief Minister and the Eastvale Empire’s God of War. As Lady Margaery of Glowsend, she would accompany Prince Dashnell as he presided over all. She would become the most dazzling woman in Eastvale Empire’s history.
As such, Margaery also became the lifelong regret that Andrew could never get rid of. It was like a thorn in his side until death.
In time, people would praise her with titles such as Commander of the Eight Regions and Bedrock of the Nine Provinces. Powerful enemies from all quarters would tremble whenever they heard her name…

At this moment, Margaery had arrived at Craig Eastwick’s place.
“Isn’t today a rest day?” Craig had just returned from the Priest’s Hall. He had already changed out of the priest’s purple robe he wore at the morning court session. Now, he was wearing a rough–fabric tunic, which made him look like a nondescript beggar.
He no longer looked at Margaery with worry. Instead, he smiled at her with a gratified look.
“Master, I’ve discovered something major, so I’ve come to seek your help. I have also arranged to meet with Dashnell here,” Margaery said briefly.
After this, she bid farewell to Marc and Christina. “I’ll see you again the day after tomorrow.”
“Sure.” With that, Marc left with Christina.
Craig looked at Margaery quizzically. “How major is this thing? This is the first time I’ve seen you so worried.”
Margaery put down the ceramic bottle in her hand and explained, “Osmond Eames isn’t ill. He was poisoned. I can’t determine what kind of poison it is, so I’ve brought his blood sample for some tests.”
