Chapter 193
Lavern stared at the shattered pieces on the floor, standing there dazed and dent
Daniel let go of him. Lavern immediately bent down to pick up the shuttered crane tugurice, his gore of her and disappointment as he looked at Marina.
He said, “Marina, even if I’ve messed up now, you know better than anyone how I trewed you back sex together. Why are you so quick to throw away all the good times we had just became of my mistakes
‘So he thinks just because of his mistakes now, everything else doesn’t matter? Matiasecked womedy.
She gave a cold, sarcastic laugh.
She wasn’t moved by Lavern’s words at all. Instead, she glanced at the other stati menkers.
“Keep searching,” she ordered,
Lavern was obviously trying to throw her off. That could only mean there was something ehe tsdden in his office that could really land him in hot water.
Lavern frowned, gripping the bookshelf for support, his eyes fixed on Marina, burning with reverters.
“Marina, you’re so ruthless,” he said.
Marina shot him a cold look and replied in a flat tone, “Lavern, I’m just ruthless. But you’re disgustin
Lavern stared at Marina, the restlessness in his eyes barely contained.
The staff searched every nook and cranny, leaving no stone unturned, but still came up empty–handed in Lavens’s office
Lavern’s agitation faded, and his gaze grew steady.
He coolly pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Marina, as I said, I’d never do anything to hurt Ross Group. Even if you turn my office upside down, you won’t find a single piece of evidence,” he said, his voice full of confidence.
Lavern looked up at Marina and added, “You brought people to search my office without telling me, and now the whole company’s talking about it. I expect you to apologize to me in front of everyone at the company’s annual meeting
Marina frowned, seeing how calm and confident Lavern was.
She replied determinedly, “Fine. The company’s annual meeting is in a week. If it turns out you really haven’t done anything to harm the company, I’ll apologize to you.”
Lavern nodded and said, “Deal. To make things easier for your investigation, I’ll take a leave and stay home. Once the investigation wraps up, I’ll come to the company to accept your apology at the annual meeting”
After he finished, he shot a glare at the staff bustling around his office, his eyes burning with anger
“I expect my office to be restored to its original state when I come back. I really hate it when people mess added coldly.
Marina’s eyes grew cold. Then she sneered, “You’re so shameless at first, and now you’re pretending to be all pure mad proper?”

Lavern paused, turning to glare at Marina.
Marina didn’t even look his way. She just motioned for the staff to keep going
She thought, ‘I have to tear his office apart today. I’m going to find something useful, no matter what
Lavern exhaled sharply, looked away from Marina, and left the office.
Marina shot a look at his back as he left.
He’d just taken a blow from her. Now his back was bent as he walked, looking like he was in real agony.
She put all her strength into that hit.
Marina lowered her eyes, a spark flashing in them.
She didn’t spot Lavern’s favorite laptop anywhere in the office.
Lavern treasured that laptop, always took it with him, and it had been his companion for years.
Marina hurried out of the office.
Lavern was standing by the elevator, one hand pressed against the wall as he waited.
Hearing footsteps, he turned and saw Marina coming out. His brows furrowed, and he quickly pulled his hand away from the wall.
He didn’t want to look weak in front of her, so he forced himself to stand up straight, ignoring the pain.
“Anything else?” he asked, his tone cold.
As he asked, he couldn’t help but hope she’d say something more.
Marina kept a safe distance and asked, “Where’s your laptop, Mr. Ross?”
Lavern frowned, and his gaze was sharp.
When he didn’t answer, Marina glanced at Daniel, then spoke in a low voice, “Go with Mr. Ross to the parking garage and get his laptop.”
Daniel stepped forward. “Okay, Ms. Finley.”
Lavern was dissatisfied with Daniel getting close. He shot Marina a dark look and said, “Why don’t you come with me to the garage? I’ll hand it to you.”
Marina shut him down instantly. “No thanks. I’m worried you might snap and do something crazy.”
Lavern’s expression darkened.
“You really don’t trust me at all anymore?” he asked, his voice tight.
Marina let out a cold laugh and said, “Trust? That was gone ages ago.”
Lavern frowned and said in a low and serious tone, “Marina, even if we’re not a couple anymore, we’re still partners running this company. If you can’t trust me even a little, how are we supposed to keep this business going?”

Marina raised an eyebrow, her eyes flicking over him with indifference.
“If I stopped working with you, the company would still run just fine, wouldn’t it?” she said.
Lavern’s eyes flashed with shock.
“Are you trying to push me out?” he demanded.
Marina kept her cool, smiling as she replied, “It’s not that easy.”

Lavern struggled to keep his composure, his chest rising and falling with emotion. With so many employees eavesdropping from the secretary’s office, he had to swallow his anger and keep up appearances in front of his subordinates.
“Let’s see if you can actually pull this off,” he said.
Marina gave him a faint smile and replied, “Just watch.”
Lavern frowned, his face dark as he stepped into the elevator.
Daniel followed right behind him.
Just as the elevator doors were about to close, Marina strode over, stuck her hand out to block them, and called over one of her team.
“Zoe, go downstairs with Daniel and get the laptop,” she said.
Zoe was someone Daron had transferred over from Zamora Group headquarters.
Daron had told her she could trust the people he’d brought into Ross Group without a second thought.
“Once Daniel gets the laptop, take Mr. Ross to the hospital. His back looks seriously messed up. He might need to be admitted. Stay with him at the hospital and keep an eye on him,” Marina instructed.
Daniel nodded.
“I got it, Ms. Finley. I’ll make sure Mr. Ross is taken good care of, and he won’t be able to take a single step without me knowing,” he said with a grin.
Marina couldn’t help but smile, clearly pleased.
Daron really knew how to pick subordinates. They were sharp and quick to catch on.
She didn’t even have to spell things out. They always knew exactly what she wanted.
Lavern stood in the elevator, his eyes dark as he stared at Marina.
“So you want to keep me holed up in the hospital?” he shot back, his voice dripping with suspicion.
Marina shook her head and said with a smile, “Don’t be so dramatic. I’m just making sure you don’t drop dead from that hit and leave me holding the bag.
“Don’t worry about the hospital bills. I’ve got it covered. Just focus on getting better, Mr. Ross.”
Lavern’s gaze turned stormy, his face icy as he locked eyes with her.
Marina stared right back, unafraid, her eyes blazing with fierce resolve. She was in it to win, no matter what would happen.
