Marina glanced at the clock. It already passed eight. She hurried to the bathroom to wash up.
Once she was ready, she walked out of the bedroom, checking her phone as she went.
She saw a message from Daron.
Daron: [There’s breakfast on the table. Don’t forget to eat.]
Just a few cold, emotionless words.
Marina hurriedly replied. [Thank you, Mr. Zamora.]
After sending the message, she put her phone away.
Daron was probably already on his flight back to Vrufield.
She glanced at the dining table. Sure enough, Daron had prepared breakfast for her.
She only had half an hour before work. With a shareholders‘ meeting coming up, time was tight. She snatched a quick bite, tidied up the table, and made a beeline for the elevator.
When she reached the underground garage, Marina stepped out of the elevator and realized her car was still parked back at
the villa.
Just as she was about to return to the elevator, Eddy appeared and spoke up right on cue. “Ms. Finley, I’ll drive you to the
office.”
Marina gave a polite, faint smile and walked over.
Eddy quickly opened the car door for her.
Marina bent down to get in and thanked him as she did.
“Thanks, Eddy,” she said.
If Eddy hadn’t been there, she probably would’ve been late for work.
Eddy smiled and replied, “You’re welcome. Mr. Zamora asked me to wait for you. If you want to thank someone, thank him.”
Marina gave a soft smile and replied, “Okay.”
Today of all days, Daron probably wouldn’t want her to disturb him.
On the way to Ross Group, Robert called.
Marina picked up.
“Ms. Finley, the audit team from Zamora Group has already arrived at the company. They’re conducting a thorough review of all the senior management. Just waiting for you to arrive,” Robert said.
Marina stared straight ahead, a flicker of confusion crossing her eyes.
Daron had clearly said he’d bring the audit team with him to Sicester.

She hadn’t expected the plan to get pushed ahead.
Til be at the office in fifteen minutes, Marina replied to Robert.
After replying, she hung up.
Seeing how anxious Marina looked, Eddy stepped on the gas.
When they arrived at Ross Group, it was just work time.
After making sure she looked presentable, Marina stepped out of the elevator.
Sure enough, the head of Zamora Group’s audit team was already waiting in her office.
As soon as Marina walked in, the man stood up from his seat and reached out his hand.
“Hello, Ms. Finley. I’m Basil Flynn, head of Zamora Group’s audit department,” he said.
Marina walked over and shook his hand.
“Hello, I’m Marina Finley. Please, have a seat,” she said.
Basil nodded and sat back down.
Marina took out the contract Daron found last night from her briefcase and handed it to Basil.
Basil took it, flipped through the pages, and then looked up at Marina.
“Ms. Finley, how do you want us to proceed?” he asked.
This was the first time he’d ever asked that since taking over as head of the audit department.
Normally, he’d never let anyone stealing from the company slip through the cracks.
However, when he rushed over late last night, Daron made it clear he should ask Marina.
After looking into things at the company today, Basil was shocked to find out that Lavern was actually Marina’s ex- boyfriend.
But what really surprised Basil was how Daron had suddenly started showing unexpected mercy.
Basil looked at Marina, his gaze neutral and composed, quietly waiting for her answer.
Marina looked up and caught the seriousness and scrutiny in his eyes.
She met his gaze directly, without a hint of hesitation, and replied in a composed tone, “Business is business. Just do what you usually do in situations like this.”
A flicker of respect flashed in Basil’s eyes before his face grew serious as he spoke, “Alright, Ms. Finley. Let’s head to the conference room together.”
Marina nodded, stood up, and followed Basil to the conference room.
Inside the conference room, all of Ross Group’s senior management had already gathered.
Lavern sat at the head of the table, his face grim, eyes betraying his agitation.

Abel sat to his left, leaning in to whisper. “Mr. Ross, why is Zamora Group’s audit team suddenly investigating Ross Grout
“Doesn’t Mr. Zamora only own 20% of Ross Group? You and Ms. Finley both have more shares than he does flow is that even possible…”
Before Abel could finish, Marina and Basil walked into the conference room together.
Basil’s expression stayed serious.
But when he faced Marina, he wasn’t nearly as intimidating as he was with the others. In fact, he seemed almost respectful
Lavern sprang to his feet, shooting Basil a cold glare.
He said, “Marina was away from Ross Group for over half a year and only just came back. She’s not up to speed on what’s been happening, so there’s no need for her to be here at all.”
His voice was laced with anger and impatience.
Basil glanced at him and said coldly, “Mr. Ross, you’re injured. Try not to get worked up. Once the meeting’s over, we’ll have Robert drive you back to the hospital so you can continue your treatment.”
Basil had personally brought Lavern straight from the hospital to Ross Group that morning.
Basil didn’t say a word the whole way.
It wasn’t until they arrived at Ross Group that Lavern realized Zamora Group’s audit team had sent a whole squad, locking down all the senior management and launching a thorough internal investigation.
Lavern let out a cold snort, shooting Basil a look of pure disgust, his jaw clenched with hatred.
He said, “Mr. Zamora only owns 20% of Ross Group. This is just a small company he invested in. It is not even close to being run by the Zamora Group.
“If Zamora Group wants to investigate us thoroughly, you need every shareholder’s approval first!”
Abel immediately stood up and said, “I object! Mr. Zamora only has a small share, and now he wants to stir up trouble within Ross Group? If people hear that the whole management team is under investigation, it’ll make us look bad everywhere.
“Ross Group just barely survived a crisis, and it was only because Mr. Ross pulled us back from the brink that things got back on track. We can’t let things get messed up like this again.”
When the audit team barged into his office and started sealing up his files this morning, it scared the hell out of him.
He had been pocketing dirty money for years, all thanks to his position.
If they ever found out, he’d be looking at jail time for sure.
Lavern leaned back in his chair, giving Marina a gentle look as he spoke quietly, “Marina, for Ross Group’s future, let’s stick together and face them as one.
“You know exactly what kind of trouble this could bring down on Ross Group.”
He thought, ‘Daron is trying to take over Ross Group, but there is no way Marina would just sit back and let the company she’d built get snatched away by Zamora Group.
