Mila was a classmate of both Elnora and Daron, so Joyce didn’t doubt the authenticity of the information she revealed,
Still, she couldn’t figure out why, if Daron was already engaged Marina, the Zamora family didn’t turn down the Milner Family when they reached out about tying the families together The Zamoras hadn’t agreed, but they hadn’t refused either.
Mila noticed the confusion in Joyce’s eyes and lowered her voice to explain, “Marina and Elnora’s mother, Kathy, was just an ordinary woman who married up into the Finley family.
“Maybe because her own marriage was so unhappy, she didn’t want her daughters to get trapped in that world again. Cole always treated Elnora as the future heir, so Kathy couldn’t take her away. So she left with Marina. Not long after, Marina started making a fuss about breaking off her engagement with Daron.”
Joyce’s lips curled into a mocking smile at those words.
“So, their engagement doesn’t exist anymore,” she said.
With the Finley family’s current situation, the Zamora family must look down on it.
Besides, Marina was the one who insisted on breaking off the engagement in the first place. There’s no way the Zamora family would accept her back.
Joyce thought, ‘Well, there’s nothing left for me to be afraid of.
Noticing that Joyce clearly didn’t take Marina seriously, Mila lowered her voice and said, “Joyce, you really shouldn’t underestimate Marina.
“Back then, she was just a girl and didn’t know any better, so she insisted on breaking off the engagement.
“But she’s grown up now. She’s not the same naive girl she used to be. You saw how Daron was with her that night. He treats her like one of his own and is super protective of her.
“Honestly, Daron’s still single after all these years. Even the Zamora family wouldn’t dare call the shots when it comes to Daron.”
Joyce’s grip on her wine glass tightened slightly at Mila’s words.
Just then, Daron came down the stairs from the second floor, and Joyce immediately stared at him.
He walked with a straight, confident posture, his steps easy and unhurried, which gave him an effortlessly commanding presence.
The expensive, custom–tailored suit he wore couldn’t even begin to match the natural elegance and nobility in his presence. There was an air of cool detachment about him, and his striking features made him stand out no matter where he was. He was the kind of man who always stole the spotlight, like the main character in a story.
Before Daron had even finished coming down the stairs, someone was already waiting by the corner, ready to chat him up.
Joyce thought, ‘So damn impressive, so magnetic. How could he ever end up with Marina?“”
She gradually relaxed her grip on the wine glass, glanced sideways at Mila, and asked quietly, “Cot any good ideas?”
Mila smiled softly.
She said, “Not really an idea. Winnie just got back from Sicester. But she didn’t get a single thing done at work.

“She’s been hiding out at home, too embarrassed to show her face. I had my mom subtly probe for information, and she ended up finding out some juicy details about Marina”
glint of interest flashed in Joyce’s eyes. With so many guests around and people constantly coming over to wish her a happy birthday, she leaned in and whispered to Mila, “Let’s talk my room.”
Mila smiled and nodded, following Joyce’s lead.
She thought, Joyce is only brought back into the fold a few years ago, still hasn’t picked up all the Milner family’s tricks. She isn’t as slick as others yet, but that just makes her the perfect weapon to use!
As Daron came down the stairs, his assistant immediately stepped forward and handed him his phone.
“Mr. Zamora, Ms. Finley just called,” the assistant said.
Daron’s brow quirked. He took the phone, dialing Marina back.
The call rang and rang, but nobody answered.
Daron frowned and opened up the monitoring software on his phone.
He didn’t spot Marina anywhere on the cameras. Scrubbing back through the footage, he saw her go into her room, and she hadn’t come out since.
Just as he was about to call her again, his phone lit up with an incoming
call.
It was the head of Zamora Group’s Frency branch.
A few days ago, an employee at the Frency branch died under mysterious circumstances. While the investigation was still ongoing, the family had been causing a scene at the company, even teaming up with the local union to pressure the company for a quick payout.
Garret had rushed over to handle it, but he hadn’t checked in with Daron all day.
The head of the Frency branch’s voice came through, tense and upset.
He said, “Garret and some colleagues went to visit the family of the deceased employee today. For some reason, the family got into a conflict with them, and Garret ended up seriously injured. He’s still in critical condition, and the doctors are doing everything they can.”
Hearing this, Daron frowned deeply.
Everyone at Zamora Group knew Garret was Daron’s cousin and the Lopez family’s only son.
If anything happened to Garret at the Frency branch, none of them could handle the consequences.
They had no choice but to let Daron know right away.
Daron’s brows furrowed, his gaze sharp as he turned to his assistant and spoke in a cold, no–nonsense tone, “Get me a flight to Frency, now.”
The assistant caught the icy look on Daron’s face and didn’t dare slack off for even a second. He rushed off to get everything
set up.
Still on the phone, Daron walked out of the Milner Family’s residence without looking back.
When Marina stepped out of the bathroom, she noticed her phone’s screen was lit up on the bed.
She grabbed it and saw that Daron had called. She called him back right away.

However, he didn’t answer:
Marina sighed in frustration and checked their messages. Daron till hadn’t replied.
She could only wait.
Ten minutes later, she called again.
Daron still hadn’t answered the call. She had no clue why.
Marina glanced at the time. The happiness from seeing Daron’s all carlier had totally faded from her face.
Daron would’t refuse to answer the phone for no reason, so she couldn’t help but wonder if something urgent had happened.

Feeling uneasy, Marina set her phone down and got up to dry her hair, keeping a close eye on her phone the whole time.
By the time she finished everything and finally lay down in bed, she still hadn’t heard back from Daron.
Figuring it couldn’t hurt to try again, she dialed his number one more time.
But this time, his phone was powered off.
Marina clutched her phone, desperate to find out what was going on with
aron
But after scrolling through her contacts, she couldn’t find anyone who could make her inquire about the information without any worries.
Finally, she opened Elnora’s chat window and started typing a message.
But before she could send, she immediately regretted it.
If Elnora found out just how much she was hung up on Daron, she’d probably hesitate to set her up with anyone else, always worrying about her lingering feelings for him.
She’d already promised Elnora she’d go through with the arranged marriage. She shouldn’t give Elnora any more reason to second–guess or worry.
