Chapter 227
Just as Kara was about to speak, Marina interrupted her in a gentle voice.
“Kara, let’s just leave it at that. It’s better this way,” Marina said softly.
Kara looked into Marina’s eyes, catching the suppressed emotions there. She parted her lips, wanting to speak, but nothing
came out.
Regret is just a lesson everyone has to learn in life.
“Drive safe on your way back,” Kara said.
Marina nodded and replied, “Okay.”
The next day, Marina was the first to arrive at the office.
But Kassidy had gotten there even earlier. Her tiredness showed through, even with heavy makeup around her eyes, and her face was pale. Clearly, she hadn’t slept at all last night.
Marina just shot her a glance before getting back to working on her spreadsheets, while Kassidy kept shooting looks at the staff elevator.
But Lillian still hadn’t shown up.
Kassidy’s patience was clearly wearing thin.
Lillian arrived at the office ten minutes before the workday officially started.
She’d been glued to her phone ever since she walked into the office, texting someone.
Kassidy walked over to her desk and tapped on the surface.
“Let’s talk, just the two of us,” Kassidy said.
Lillian was still waiting for a message back from her friend from last night.
She’d ended up footing the bill for the whole dinner and wanted her friend to pay her back for the dishes she hadn’t even ordered.
“I’m busy right now,” Lillian snapped, not bothering to look up or notice Kassidy’s sour expression.
Kassidy took a deep breath, but her composure finally cracked, giving way to irritation.
Having to pay for dinner yesterday had already wiped out her hard–earned savings, and with Lillian stabbing her in the bac and being unreachable all night, Kassidy’s anger boiled over.
“Lillian, do you really think you can betray me and just save yourself? Even if this gets to Mr. Zamora, he’ll know it was all your idea,” Kassidy said, her voice trembling with frustration as she glared at Lillian.
Kassidy’s voice trembled with anger as she stared at Lillian.
Lillian was stunned as she looked up, noticing that everyone in the office was now watching them.
Instinctively, she shot a look at Marina, who was lounging at her desk with her chin propped on one hand, clearly enjoying the show. Lillian bit back her frustration, stood up, and tugged Kassidy to her feet.
“Can you not do this here? Let’s talk in the restroom,” Lillian said.

Chapter 227
Kassidy regained a bit of composure, shook off Lillian’s hand, and stormed off toward the restroom.
Marina gave a small, knowing smile as she stood up, her tone gentle.
“Need me to tag along?” she asked. “Looks like this isn’t something you two can sort out by yourselves.
Amari, the colleague sitting next to Marina, shot back with a scowl, “Why do you always have to butt into everyone’s business? Is it your job to meddle in everything?”
Marina glanced at her sideways with a sly smile.
“Do you get paid by the word or something? Can’t you just keep quiet for once?” Marina retorted.
Amari’s face froze, and just as she was about to fire back, Marina brushed her off and headed straight for Lillian and Kassidy.
“Let’s go, we’ve only got five minutes before work starts. Can’t hog company time with personal stuff, right?” Marina urged.
She stood right next to Kassidy, and Lillian instantly felt the pressure, like Marina was backing Kassidy up and putting her on the spot.
Lillian frowned, her eyes flashing with irritation. She hadn’t expected Kassidy to sell her out this fast.
Marina turned and headed for the restroom, with Kassidy right on her heels.
The other colleagues, who had been busy getting ready for the day, all stopped what they were doing, eager to watch the drama unfold.
Lillian took a deep breath and followed them toward the restroom, but before they even reached the door, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
Her nerves were all over the place, and she just froze,
Ot wanting to take another step.
“Ms. Finley, I had nothing to do with you getting locked in the restroom. Don’t go believing those rumors,” Lillian said, her voice all innocence.
That sent Kassidy right over the edge again.
“It was your idea!” Kassidy snapped.
Lillian pressed her lips together, refusing to back down. “Show me the proof”
Kassidy gritted her teeth and pulled up her chat history with Lillian, only to find out they’d never actually texted, jus bunch of voice calls. She felt a wave of frustration and embarrassment.
Knowing Kassidy couldn’t prove anything, Lillian turned confidently to Marina.
“See? She’s got nothing,” Lillian said with a smirk.
“Work’s starting soon, I’ve got things to handle. You two take your time,” she tossed over her shoulder, already heading out.
With that, Lillian turned and walked back to her desk.
Marina raised an eyebrow at Kassidy, a faint, scornful smile tugging at her lips, part mockery, part pure disdain.
“Looks like you’re the only one getting fired,” Marina said.
Kassidy finally lost it.
She marched straight into the office, and before Lillian could even sit down, Kassidy grabbed a fistful of her hair.

Chapter 227
“You bitch! If you won’t let me live in peace, then I swear I’ll make your life hell too!” Kassidy screamed.
Lillian’s scalp screamed in pain as Kassidy dragged her straight to the ground.
The colleagues nearby were too shocked to even try and stop them.
Chloe’s voice shouted from the office doorway.
“What are you two doing?” Chloe barked.
Marina glanced up and spotted Daron standing off to the side in a perfectly tailored black suit, his gaze cold as he took in the chaos.
‘He’s back, Marina thought.
Kassidy noticed Daron too, immediately let go of Lillian’s hair and quickly stepped aside, visibly tense and uneasy.
Everyone in the executive office held their breath, not daring to even breathe.
Amari suddenly stood up, pointed straight at Marina, and called out to Daron,
“Mr. Zamora, they’re only fighting because Marina stirred things up,” Bella said.
Zamora Group had this unwritten rule: if colleagues ever got into a serious fight or rivalry, anyone involved would either get reassigned or shown the door.
Amari was clearly trying to pin it all on Marina.
Daron fixed his eyes on Marina, and even without saying a word, everyone could feel the pressure coming off him.
“Explain what happened,” he said.
Marina met Daron’s gaze and laid it all out. “The other night, I was working late at the office. I went to the restroom and ended up locked in there all night. The cleaning lady found me and let me out the next morning.”
“I don’t have any beef with Kassidy or Lillian, so I just wanted to clear things up. Kassidy pointed the finger at Lillian, but Lillian shot back that Kassidy was just accusing her without any evidence.
“And after that, you all saw what went down.”
She sounded so unfazed, you’d think she hadn’t spent the whole night locked in there at all.
Amari, who had just tried to blame Marina in front of Daron, suddenly felt his cold, piercing gaze cut right through he
Her breathing became cautious as she slowly sat back down, doing her best to shrink into her seat and fade into the background.
