Chapter 274
Marina sat quietly beside Daron, listening to him talk on the phone with Chloe.
She wasn’t afraid of Carrie coming after her.
What she really worried about was Daron getting dragged into this mess.
It didn’t matter if people threw dirt at her, but Daron’s reputation had to stay spotless.
Noticing something was off, the driver bypassed the main entrance and headed straight for the side gate.
Marina glanced out the window and saw Carrie and the rest of the Ross family arguing with the security guards.
They were demanding to see Daron, but the Zamora Group’s security team wasn’t about to let them in.
Carrie was sitting on the ground, wailing and crying, looking like she might faint at any second.
Marina’s hand tightened at her side.
Daron saw her face had gone pale, frowned, and said in a deep voice.
“Have Mario come down and talk to them about compensation,” he said.
Marina was stunned, pulling her gaze back from the window.
“Compensation?” she whispered, barely audible.
‘Why should we pay them anything? Marina thought, resentment bubbling up inside her.
Lavern wanted to drown her in debt, make sure she’d never rise again.
They still hadn’t returned the money Lavern stole. If anything, they should be the ones compensating me!
“No way,” Marina snapped, turning to Daron without a second thought.
She rejected the idea immediately.
Chloe heard Marina’s voice on the other end, but she just stayed silent and listened in.
Marina lifted her chin, meeting Daron’s gaze with unwavering resolve.
“If anyone should be paying compensation, it’s them! They’re not getting a single penny from me,” she declared.
Daron gave her a long, searching look, but in the end, he let her have the final say.
“Alright, we’ll do it your way,” he said.
He just wanted to keep Marina out of all this drama and wrap things up as quickly as possible.
Since Marina had her own plan, he was fine with letting her call the shots.
Marina took the phone and put it to her ear, speaking softly to Chloe.
“I’ll head to the reception hall right now,” she said.

After hanging up, Merine looked up at Deron and thanked to sody
She understood why Deron wanted to offer compensation to Carrie and her family. He just wared to take sure they wouldn’t keep coming to her with all this drama.
Paul Carrie’s appetite for more was never going to be satisfied that easily.
Lavern will held 20% of Rows Group’s shares.
They probably wanted to sell those shares to Daron at a sky–high price.
After all, Lavern was about to go to prison, and Carrie had no clue how to handle those shares.
Once Zamora Group’s branch took over all of Ross Group’s business, those shares would be worthless.
In the end, those shares would just get liquidated and become worthless, so they figured they might as well cash our big while they will had the chance.
That was probably the whole reason the Ross family came to Vrufield with Carrie.
Daron glanced at her, then looked away, his voice low and serious as he said, “We’re husband and wife. Whatever happens you, happens to me. We’re in this together
Marina bit down on her lip, guilt flickering in her eyes as she murmured an apology.
“I’m sorry, she whispered.
She’d never wanted Daron to get caught up in her troubles. No matter how hard she tried to keep him out of it, he still got pulled in because of her.
Daron narrowed his eyes as he listened to her apology, his face clouding over with a hint of seriousness.
The driver pulled into the underground garage through the side entrance and parked right by the elevator.
Marina opened the car door and stepped out. She walked a couple of steps toward the elevator, then turned back to look at Daron, who was still sitting inside.
I’ll take care of this, I promise you won’t get dragged into it,” she said quietly, her voice full of determination.
Daron’s brows furrowed, but he just kept quiet.
Marina checked the elevator’s floor indicator, but in the end, she headed up via the emergency exit stairs.
Daron watched her leave, rubbing his brow.
From the start, Marina never meant to ask him for help, or even let him handle any of this.
Did she really see me as someone she couldn’t depend on?‘ Daron thought, a wave of frustration washing over him.
Daron drew in a long breath, forcing himself to calm down and push away the frustration swirling inside.
The driver, in the front seat, noticed Daron hadn’t gotten out yet. He opened the door, stepped out, and stood by the rear

door, speaking in a low voice.
Mr. Zamora, a whole crowd from the Ross family showed up, and there were a list of men with them I’m wasteland slaget Mrs. Zamora
Daron was still pissed about how Marina had just hurried off, and that distant apology of hers, the she was shining your completely.
Before the driver could even finish, Daron cut him off, his expression cold and impatient “Why bother with hwes
“She’s more than capable. She can deal with it on her own, he added, his tone sharp and disminu
The driver could tell Daron was pissed, his face tight with anger, so he just bowed his heard and kept quiet
Daron climbed out of the car, his face icy and pissed, then strode straight toward the elevator
The driver closed the car door and glanced over at Daron.
He watched as Daron lingered by the elevator for a few seconds, then, following Marina’s lead, took the stairs up through the emergency exit.
Chloe had just seated the Ross family in the reception hall when Marina stepped inside.
The Ross family was loud as ever. Even sitting down, they were busy plotting ways to mess with Marina, cursing home des limit and right.
As soon as Marina walked in, the whole place fell silent for a few seconds.
She was rocking a bright, festive outfit today, her makeup was on point, making her impossible to ignore.
As soon as Carrie started cursing, the rest of the Ross family joined in, all turning on Marina.
Marina pulled out a chair but stayed standing. She handed a USB drive to Chloe, keeping her tone polite.
“Chloe, could you print out the documents on this for me? Thanks,” she said.
Chloe accepted the USB drive with both hands.
Only then did Marina take her seat, her eyes passing over Carrie with an indifferent glance as she spoke in a chilly voice
“Shouldn’t you be back in Sicester, hunting down a good lawyer for Lavern? So what brings you all the way to Vrutes the asked.
Carrie took a deep breath, her eyes full of venom as she glared at Marina, like she wanted to cat her alive.
“You… you bitch! You ruined Lavern’s life?” she snapped.
Marina smirked coldly, her voice icy as she spoke.
“How did 1 ruin him, exactly? Is he dead, or crippled?” she shot back.
Carrie practically spat the words out. “He just made one stupid mistake with another woman and after seven years uzgetine s you still had him thrown in jail? Marina, you’re vicious! I never should’ve let Lavern get med up with you?
Marina smirked coldly, her voice calm and cutting.

“Is that so?” she said, unimpressed. “Then why didn’t you stop it?”
“Was it because you had your eyes on my money? You thought I had my mom’s money, and I was young, easy to control Once my grandma passed away, you guys would try to control me. Is that why you didn’t stop it?”
At Marina’s words, Carrie’s face fell, her expression shifting as if she’d just been exposed.
Marina gave her a cold, mocking stare.
“Lavern got arrested because he broke the law, not just because he cheated on me,” Marina said, her tone icy.
“He abused his position to embezzle company funds,” she added, voice sharp and unforgiving
As she spoke, Marina locked eyes with Lavern’s uncle, who was sitting right next to Carrie.
“Isn’t your son a finance major? He should know how this works. Maybe he should give his aunt a crash course,” she said, her tone carrying a mocking edge.
“Don’t think I don’t see through your little plan. You know Zamora Group cares about its reputation, so you came here to stir up drama and smear my name, hoping to drive up the price of Lavern’s 20% shares,” Marina said, her voice cold and direct.
“You all know the truth, no matter how much noise you make, Lavern’s not getting out. Why not sell off those shares while you still can? That way, when he finally gets out in a few years, he’ll have a nest egg to make his comeback,” she finished, not bothering to sugarcoat the truth.
Marina read them like a book, and for a moment, Carrie was at a loss for words. All she could do was spit venom, spewing curses at Marina.
