Daron frowned, not happy at all with what Harris said, and said seriously, “Grandpa, whether she’s leeching off me or not, that’s between me and her.
“We’re married now, and I’m the one who chooses to stand by her.”
Harris’s face darkened as he heard Daron’s words, and he slammed his hand on the table.
“Daron, do you even hear yourself right now?” Harris snapped.
“You’ve been by my side all these years, and I never thought you’d turn out like this! Since when did you become so love- struck?”
Harris was furious, his face so dark it was almost scary.
Daron stayed calm and steady, not even blinking at Harris’s accusations. He stared right back at Harris, his eyes unwavering.
“Grandpa, my marriage is up to me. That’s what you promised me, remember?” Daron said.
Harris’s expression soured at Daron’s words.
He hadn’t expected Daron to bring that up.
Seeing Daron so unfazed, Harris narrowed his eyes.
“So, this was your plan from the start, to marry her?” Harris asked.
‘All these years, you never once wavered about marrying her?”
Daron nodded.
“Yes,” he replied.
‘Grandpa, you were the one who picked her out for me when we were just kids. That means you saw something in her, right? So me marrying her is just giving you exactly what you wanted all along,” Daron said.
Harris exhaled slowly, fixing Daron with a sharp, scrutinizing gaze, sizing him up.
He never imagined Daron cared for Marina this much.
Back when Marina came to the Zamora family to call off the engagement, it was Daron who agreed to the breakup himself.
Harris was silent for a long moment before finally speaking in a cold tone.
“Since your marriage to Marina is already a done deal, I won’t say anything more. But for now, I’d prefer it you kept it under wraps. Let’s wait a year before making it public,” Harris said.
Daron nodded.
Harris shot Daron a look, then settled into his chair and switched gears.
“My father brought up Victor again today,” Daron said.
“Since you didn’t even talk to me about something as big as your marriage, I don’t see why you should have any say about

me bringing Victor back into the Zamora family. Let’s just call it even,” Harris said.”
After he finished, Harris locked his eyes on Daron, waiting to see how he’d respond.
Daron didn’t even flinch, not a flicker of emotion crossed his face, as if he’d expected this all along.

“Grandpa, you’ve been planning to bring Victor back into the Zamora family for ages, so why go through all this trouble pretending it’s about something else?” Daron said.
Harris scoffed, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
“You handed me the perfect excuse yourself, didn’t you? You knew that defying me would give me every reason to bring Victor back into the Zamora family, and yet you still put that opportunity right in front of me.
“All this just for a woman, and now look where you are. You knew this was coming, didn’t you?”
Daron met Harris’s probing questions with silence, choosing not to respond.
Harris shot him a look and let out a cold snort.
“Daron, you gave me this opening yourself. Don’t blame me for seizing it.
“That’s just how the world is. There’s always someone lurking, just waiting for you to mess up so they can take you down,” Harris said.
Daron nodded, his tone respectful but his eyes unreadable. “Thanks for the advice, Grandpa. I’ll remember it.”
Harris frowned at Daron’s calm response, a flicker of irritation flashing in his eyes.
“Tomorrow, you’re coming home for dinner. You’ll bring your new bride, won’t you?” Harris said.
Daron nodded.
Harris said coldly, “She was outstanding when her grandpa was raising her, I’ll give you that. But after she left with her mom for Sicester and was cut off from the Finley family’s guidance, who knows what she’s like now.
“People change. Maybe you’re just stuck on the girl she used to be, the one who shined so bright back when she was living with the Finleys.
Daron said, “Grandpa, whether she’s changed or whether I still love her, that’s for me to decide. You really don’t need to concern yourself with that.”
Harris scoffed, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
I’m done worrying about you. You’re so capable now, so independent. You don’t need an old man like me holding you up anymore, Harris said.
Daron said, “No matter what, Grandpa, I could always use your support.”
Harris was practically fuming, his mustache bristling with anger. “If you say you still need my support, then why’d you go and hide something as huge as your marriage from me?”
“All the elders in the family were waiting for you to marry and strengthen the Zamora Group’s position. You went and acted on impulse, so whatever fallout comes from this, you’ll have to handle it on your own. Don’t count on ne to bail you out, not even a little, Harris snapped.
