When Daron got back to the villa, the lights were still on inside.

He walked into the living room and saw Marina sitting on the couch, tablet in hand, idly doodling with a stylus.
She was in her pajamas, clearly having already showered, her hair still a little damp at the ends.
Almost instinctively, as soon as she saw him, Marina set down her tablet and looked toward the doorway.
“You’re back?” she asked, her voice carrying a cheerful lilt, a smile playing at her lips.
Seeing her smile, Daron felt all the exhaustion from his visit to the Zamora family’s place just melt away.
He changed into slippers, walked over to the couch, and bent down to pull her into his arms.
“Still up? What are you working on?” Daron asked.
Marina showed him her tablet, her voice soft.
Tm designing a skin. The League is holding another public design contest, and I suddenly felt like finishing something I started a long time ago but never completed.
“Since I have some free time lately, I figured I’d do it now. Once things get busy again, I probably won’t have the chance.”
What do you think?” Marina asked softly, her eyes shining with anticipation as she looked up at Daron.
Without missing a beat, Daron pulled Marina onto his lap, sat down where she’d been, and picked up the tablet. He studied her design seriously for a moment before finally nodding.
“Not bad. But this part looks a little out of place,” he said.
Marina perked up, responding quickly and seriously.
“I thought so too, I was just stuck on it. How about if I do it like this?” she said.
Snuggled in Daron’s arms, she picked up the stylus, deleted the old part, and added a new element. The design looked a lot cleaner now.
“But will this even match the original fancy vibe?” she wondered aloud.
Daron took the stylus from her, kept her idea, and added his own little touch.
“How’s this?” he asked.
Marina’s eyes sparkled with joy at his tweak. She wrapped her arms around his neck and rubbed her cheek against him.
“That’s awesome! Why didn’t I think of that?” she said.
Daron leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek, then let his lips find hers. He took the tablet and stylus from Marina’s hands, set them aside on the couch, and said softly, “It’s late Time to get some rest
With that, he wrapped his arms around Marina and, with effortless strength, lifted her up and carried her upstairs.

chest, and whispered, apologizing.
“Sorry I made things harder for you today,” she said softly.
Harris would definitely catch on to what she did once he checked the security cameras.
Her grandpa always said Harris was a sly old fox and no trick could ever fool him.
So she’d better not try any sneaky moves around him because he’d spot them in a heartbeat.
Harris called Daron back to the Zamora family’s mansion. Marina thought he probably got chewed out.

Daron had always been the responsible one, and now that Marina was his wife, he’d protect her no matter what and quietly take the heat from Harris.
Daron listened to her apology, looked down at her, his eyes dark and thoughtful.
Noticing the guilt in her eyes, he spoke softly, “It’s fine. It’s not your fault.”
Marina felt even more guilty.
“Does Harris just really not like me?” she asked.
She could still remember that time she stirred up trouble at the Zamora family’s place. Harris was sitting in his chair, giving her that icy, razor–sharp stare.
She’d actually met Harris a bunch of times before, always tagging along with her grandpa.
Back then, Harris always seemed so kind and gentle whenever he saw her.
But that one time, his eyes were especially cold, like he was warning her not to overstep or forget her place.
Thinking back now, Marina realized she really hadn’t known any better back then.
If she’d known that, after all the twists and turns, she’d end up marrying Daron anyway, she never would’ve done any of that.
Even if Daron wasn’t head over heels for her, being his wife didn’t seem so bad,
Even if there wasn’t any love, he’d still have her back.
Just like now, even without much love between them, they could still live like any ordinary couple.
Besides, Daron was fiercely protective. Even though he knew she’d hit Joyce on purpose, he never said a word of blame. He even stood up for her in front of Harris.
Honestly, having a man like him, even if he didn’t love her, wasn’t so bad after all.
Daron noticed the worry in her eyes and spoke softly, “Whether he likes you or not, it doesn’t matter.”
His words struck a chord with Marina.
After all, she’d stirred up so much trouble back then. It was only natural Harris wasn’t fond of her.
She let out a silent sigh, reminding herself not to stress out. All she had to do was stay focused on her own path.
She said, “True. Even if he’s not a fan of me, it doesn’t change the fact that we’re husband and wife now.”

Still, she knew she’d have to handle things carefully tomorrow.

Daron carried her into the bedroom, catching the pensive look on her face, and leaned down to give her a gentle kiss.
“Don’t stress about the family dinner tomorrow. I’ll handle everything,” he said softly.
Marina nodded.
“Mm, I’m not worried at all. I’m mentally prepared,” Marina said.
Daron looked into her bright eyes, his voice deep and steady. “Good. As long as you’re ready for it.”
“I’m not planning on getting divorced anytime soon, so stand firm. Don’t let their pressure make you back down,” he said.
Marina bit her lip, nodded softly, and she murmured, “Don’t worry. The Finley family got a huge advantage out of this project. They took a big share. I can definitely handle it.
“Back when I was starting Ross Group, I had to deal with plenty of tough clients. If I just treat them like clients I need to profit from, I’ll be able to get through this.”
Daron frowned at the way Marina described it.
Even if she had a point, hearing her say it like that just rubbed him the wrong way for no reason.
He bent down, set her on the bed, then leaned in, pressing his lips to hers and letting his weight settle over her, shutting her up in the most direct way.
Right now, Daron didn’t want to hear a single word from Marina that he didn’t like.
Marina stared up at his handsome face, so close she could feel his breath. Her heart was racing out of control.
The past couple of days felt like she’d somehow crossed over into her own dream. Everything was just so surreal.
Daron looked down and saw Marina’s eyes still open. He reached up and gently covered them with his hand, his voice low and husky.
“Stay focused on what you’re doing right now. Don’t get distracted,” he murmured.
Marina’s ears instantly turned red at the sound of his sexy voice, the blush spreading across her whole face.
