By the time everything was over, it was already late at night.

Daron carried Marina to the bathroom to wash up, then gently placed her back in bed before heading in himself to clean up.
Marina lay in bed, her mind unusually clear. She felt wide awake, not a trace of sleepiness anywhere.
She forced herself to close her eyes, hoping to fall asleep, but sleep just wouldn’t come.
Thinking about having to go to the Zamora family’s mansion tomorrow to see those people, she let out a soft sigh, got up, and left the bedroom to look for her handbag.
Marina kept her medication in her handbag, so she went to fetch it.
When Daron finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, he frowned when he saw Marina wasn’t in bed.
He stepped out of the room, noticed the lights were on downstairs, and walked over, standing at the stairs and watching
Marina.
“You…” Daron started, but before he could finish, he saw Marina take a few pills from her bag and swallow them.
Daron’s eyes grew cold for a moment, a chill flickering in his gaze, but in the end, he said nothing and turned back to the bedroom.
Marina came back after taking her meds, noticed the bottle was almost empty, and tossed it into the trash without a second thought.
But when she spotted the bottle lying in the trash, she hesitated for a moment before picking it back up.
She had needed pills just to get any sleep for years now, and she’d rather keep that to herself.
So she put the bottle back in her bag.
After putting her bag back where it belonged, Marina returned to the bedroom. She was surprised to see Daron already lying down, and for a moment, her eyes widened in surprise. Not wanting to disturb him, she tiptoed quietly onto the bed.
She thought Daron was asleep, but just as she settled in, a low voice came from his side of the bed.
“Where did you go?” Daron asked.
There was a trace of displeasure in his voice, and his deep eyes locked onto Marina, watching her as if she were under interrogation.
Marina felt inexplicably uneasy, her gaze flickering away as she murmured in a soft voice, I just went downstairs
Daron’s eyes turned cold as he stared at her.
Daron asked, “What were you doing downstairs?”
Marina hesitated, biting her lip. She decided not to tell Daron the real reason and answered in a low voice. Just wanted some water. I was feeling a bit thirsty”
Daron narrowed his eyes at her, a cold smirk playing on his lips. Then he gave her a dismissive smile and looked away.
Seeing this, Marina quietly lay down beside him, not saying another word.

Before long, the meds started to kick in, and Marina felt herself getting drowsy. She slowly drifted off to sleep.

Daron lay with his back to Marina, realizing she didn’t even bother to try and make him feel better. She’d actually fallen asleep before he did. He frowned, rolled over to check on her, and once he was sure she was asleep, he lifted the covers and got out of bed.
Downstairs, Daron saw Marina’s handbag sitting on the cabinet and reached for it.
His hand paused on the clasp, but in the end, he didn’t open it. His face dark, he turned and went back upstairs.
‘Whatever. If she’s not ready for a kid, then I’ll just let it go for now, Daron muttered inwardly.
With everything going on in the Zamora family right now, if Marina ended up pregnant, it’d only distract him more.
It just wasn’t the right time for a baby.
When Daron got back to bed, he saw Marina was already fast asleep. He sighed, accepting things as they were, and gently pulled her into his arms.
Marina unconsciously snuggled into a comfortable spot in Daron’s arms and drifted off into a deep sleep.
Daron gazed at her sleeping face, a flash of softness in his eyes. Then he reached over and switched off the bedside lamp.
The next morning, Marina woke up.
She opened her eyes to find Daron’s arm draped across her back, holding her close. For a moment, a wave of comfort washed over her.
Her stirring woke Daron. He cracked his eyes open and muttered in a deep voice, “No work today. Let’s sleep in a little longer.”
Marina replied in a gentle voice, “But aren’t we supposed to go shopping for gifts today?”
“Why don’t you sleep a bit longer? I’ll go make breakfast,” she offered.
Just as she started to get up, Daron’s arm around her waist suddenly tightened.
Daron didn’t let her go, pulling her right back into bed.
“You sleep. I’ll take care of it,” Daron said, getting out of bed in one smooth motion.
Marina watched as he quickly threw on his clothes and walked into the bathroom to freshen up, biting her lip.
Once he was done, Daron headed straight downstairs.
Marina just watched him leave, a small smile appearing on her lips.
Honestly, except for his bit of a smart mouth and those random bursts of temper, Daron was great in every other way
When a guy’s this great, those tiny flaws were barely worth mentioning.
After taking her meds last night, Marina had slept like a baby and now felt totally refreshed. She tossed off the covers, got up, washed up, and went downstairs.
Daron was in the kitchen, cooking noodles.

When Marina came downstairs, she heard him talking on the phone while working the noodles in the pot.
Seeing this, she walked over and took over the cooking from him.

The situation in Frency was pretty tense. After Daron suggested a few ways to handle things, he went quiet again.
Leo had been in Frency for years, and that place was basically his base of operations now. If he wanted to make trouble for Daron, it’d be way too easy.
Marina prepared the seasoning, scooped the noodles out of the pot, and set everything on the table.
Daron was still on the phone.
Marina didn’t start eating. She just sat there, waiting for him.
As the noodles started to clump together, Marina got up to make a fresh batch, but just then, Daron hung up and walked
over.
“Let’s just make do with this. Eat up so we can head out. No need to go to any trouble,” Daron said.
Marina just nodded and handed him the fork.
Daron took them and started eating.
Marina lowered her head and began to eat as well.
After a few bites, Daron noticed Marina was unusually quiet, so he spoke up, “Nice job with the seasoning. Next time, I’ll cook and you handle the seasoning.”
Marina nodded with a smile. “Sure.”
Their conversation shifted to planning out breakfast ideas, trying to come up with new things so they wouldn’t be stuck eating noodles every day.
For a moment, they really did seem like just a regular couple.
After breakfast, Marina started clearing the dishes. Daron was just about to help when his phone rang again.
Marina took the dishes from his hands and said softly, “Go ahead and answer it. I’ve got this.”
Daron glanced at the caller ID and nodded.
“Alright,‘ he replied.
He swiped to answer.
“Zara…” Daron said.
He held the phone to his ear, walking over to the floor–to–ceiling window as he talked.
Marina watched his back for a moment, then quietly looked away and went into the kitchen.
When she finished washing the dishes and came out, Daron was still standing by the window, talking on the phone.
Marina glanced over at him. He looked completely at case, the curve of his lips showing just how pleased he was right now.
