Harris reached for his cup, about to take a sip of coffee, when Matthew suddenly addressed him. With a helpless sigh, Harris set the cup back down.
He said, “Matthew, you’re right. Marriage is a serious matter, not something to be taken lightly. But they’re already legally married, so what do you think we should do now?”
Matthew wore a stern expression, casting a cold look at Marina as he said in a harsh tone.
“While the marriage hasn’t been announced yet, have them get a divorce. Then we’ll pick a real heiress from a family worthy of Daron’s status.”
Harris didn’t answer right away. Instead, he looked at everyone in the room and spoke softly, “Is that what everyone else thinks?”
Most of the people present were no longer involved in the power center of the Zamora Group, and none of them wanted to get on Daron’s bad side.
So when Harris asked, everyone just stayed quiet.
After glancing at everyone’s reaction, Matthew said in a stern voice, “What are you all so afraid of?”
Matthew had two grandsons, both of whom were making a name for themselves in other fields.
He respected Harris, so over the years, he never fought for power. He was just always vocal about his opinions.
But now, seeing Daron refuse to listen to the elders, he felt his authority was under threat, and he was ready to make his
move.
He said, “All of us here, one way or another, hold shares in the Zamora Group. We’re here for the future of the company, for the future of our family. If we just sit back and let Daron run wild, do you really think our children and grandchildren will have any peace or stability?”
As soon as Matthew finished speaking, the crowd that had been silent before began to waver. Some of them were already plotting their next move.
Daron rose from his seat, his voice cool and composed as he spoke.
“I trust you’ve all seen by now that I’m no pushover. I would never mess around with the future of the Zamora Group.
“The reason I’m sitting here today isn’t just because of your support, and half of it comes down to my own skills. If anyone in the Zamora family ever proves they’re more capable than me, I’m more than willing to step down and let them take the
lead.
His voice was low and unhurried, but every word hit home for the Zamora family, leaving no room for doubt.
Marina was genuinely stunned. She hadn’t expected Daron to lay it all out like that.
Her hand at her side tightened just a bit, and she found herself looking toward Harris.
Harris’s expression turned cold as he banged his cane against the floor, clearly not pleased with Daron’s words.
“Do you really think you’re the only talented one in the Zamora family? Daron, you’re getting way too arrogant
Daron lifted his gaze to Harris, his tone deep and unwavering.

“If you can find someone better to take my place, Grandpa, I’ll hand over the reins as CEO of the Zamora Group.”
As soon as Daron finished speaking, Matthew, who’d been so vocal just moments before, suddenly went quiet.
He furrowed his brows, staring hard at Daron, searching his face for any sign of hesitation or doubt.
But Daron was dead serious. He definitely wasn’t just bluffing.
At that moment, Edmund quickly stepped forward and spoke up.
“Daron, that’s a bit much. Under your leadership, the Zamora Group has only gone from strength to strength. It’s the top company in the country now. If you step down, wouldn’t that put the whole family at risk?
“You and Ms. Finley are already married, and the Finleys still have the betrothal agreement from our family. Let’s just put an end to this whole thing.”
Leo’s gaze was heavy as he looked at Daron, his eyes narrowing with a cold chuckle.
He said, “Daron, using a retreat to make progress, that’s a slick move.
“So simple, and you managed to silence all the uncles.”
Daron sat back down next to Marina, responding to Leo with a laid–back tone.
“Compared to my father, I still have a ways to go.”
Leo shot Daron a cold look.
Seeing that everyone was now focused on Marina and Daron’s marriage, and no one had even brought up the matter of getting Victor’s name added to the Zamora family record, Verena gently placed her hand on Howard’s shoulder and quietly reminded him.
“Leo…”
It was clear to everyone that Marina had timed her marriage announcement just to distract the crowd and steer the conversation away from the real issue.
Leo finally caught on, shifting his attention from Daron to the elders of the Zamora family.
His voice was low and serious as he spoke, “We’re all here today to discuss Victor coming back to the Zamora family.
“Since Daron and Ms. Finley are already married, let’s put that on the back burner for now. No need to announce it to anyone yet. Whether they end up divorcing or whatever, we’ll deal with it when the time comes.
“Right now, the most important thing is to sort out Victor’s return to the family. Uncle Matthew, what do you think?”
Matthew had just been shut down by Daron, and his face looked even gloomier. He was stuck with no way out. But when Leo handed him a lifeline, he gladly accepted it.
“Let’s deal with Victor’s matter first,” he said.
“Harris, what do you think about registering Victor under Wilhelmina’s name?”
Just as Matthew finished speaking, a booming, authoritative voice suddenly echoed from outside the door.
“What are you trying to put under Wilhelmina’s name?”

As the voice faded, Durif walked into the Zamora family’s living room.
He wore a traditional tunic suit, no cane in sight, and walked with a steady, confident stride.

Harris hurriedly had a servant bring over a chair and set it beside his own. He stood up, smiling as he greeted Durif.
“Hey, Durif, what brings you over today?”
As Harris stood up, the rest of the Zamora family got to their feet too, all wearing those fake smiles as they welcomed Durif, pretending to be friendly, but none of them really meant it.
Hayley got up from his seat and walked over to greet Durif.
“Uncle Durif,” Hayley said respectfully.
Durif nodded, smiling warmly as he looked over at Harris, who was seated at the head of the table.
“I heard there’s something important happening with my daughter in the Zamora family today. As her father, of course I had to come in person.”
With that, he strode into the Zamora family’s living room.
As Durif walked past Daron and Marina, Daron called out to him.
“Grandpa,” Daron greeted warmly.
When Marina saw Durif’s gaze settle on her, she hurriedly spoke up.
“Mr….” she began.
But the moment she said it, Durif’s brows drew together in a frown.
Marina’s heart thumping under that piercing, hawk–like stare. She couldn’t help but tense up.
Daron leaned in, his voice low as he reminded her.
“You should call him Grandpa.”
Marina hurried to correct herself.
“Grandpa, she echoed, a little nervously.
Durif didn’t show any sign of being pleased or upset. He simply shifted his gaze from Marina, his face expressionless, and looked straight at Daron, saying in a deep, steady tone.
“Once the Zamora Group’s annual meeting is over, you’d better bring her home and make a proper apology to me.”
Daron flashed a smile and nodded.
“Got it, Grandpa,” he replied.
Daron visibly relaxed when he was talking to Durif.
Durif huffed and strode past, full of pride.
His grandson had gotten married, and as her grandfather, he hadn’t caught even a whiff of it.

If he hadn’t been eavesdropping outside the Zamora family’s door for a good while, he’d have been totally in the dark about how slick Daron was at pulling off the whole “do it first, explain later” routine.
It wasn’t surprising that Daron kept it from the Zamora family.
But all these years, the Blanchard family always had Daron’s back, supporting whatever he wanted to do.
“That brat didn’t even give me a heads–up. He must be itching for trouble, just asking for a good talking–to, Durif muttered to himself.
