Chapter 313
“Pregnant? Then skip the coffee and have something the to drink Hayley said
She set the teacup back on the table, glanced at Marina, then locked down at her soul’s
Marina was confused about why Bette suddenly mentioned her pregnancy, he was just about to say weeting when d sound of something falling came from upstairs.
All three of them turned to look and saw pearls tumbling down the stairs.
Zara stood at the top, her face pale and drawn.
When she realized all eyes were on her, she finally managed to speak, her voice barely above a whisper
“Sorry for interrupting your conversation, she said, sounding embarrassed
“I don’t know how the necklace just snapped like that.”
Hayley stood up from the sofa and said gently, “It’s okay. Just be careful on the stairs, don‘
Before she could finish, Zara started down the stairs. As she bent to pick up the pearl, she missed the one right under her foot. The moment she stepped on it, she slipped and went tumbling down the stairs.
Hayley sprang to her feet, alarmed.
“Zara!”
Her shout was loud enough to startle the maids who were cleaning outside.
Bette and Marina quickly got up and rushed over to Zara.
Zara lay sprawled on the floor, her forehead smashed, blood gushing out.
Bette whipped out her phone to call for an ambulance and told the Zamora family’s resident doctor to come take a look a well.
Zara’s face, which was already pale, now looked even more deathly pale than before.
Hayley was frantic.
She tried to help Zara up, but Marina stopped her right away.
“Hayley, Zara just fell. We don’t know where she’s hurt, or if she broke anything. Moving her right now could make things worse,” Marina said.
Hayley frowned, gently squeezing Zara’s hand as she spoke softly. “Zara, where does it hurt? Can you tell me, honey?”
Zara didn’t say a word, just let her tears fall.
She seemed to be in so much pain that she couldn’t even get the words out.
Seeing her like this, Hayley got even more worried.
After hanging up, Bette looked over at Zara, her voice as cool as ever.

“The family doctor is on his way,” she said.
Hayley nodded, just kept trying to comfort Zara
In the Zamora family’s main hall, a maid came over to Harris and quietly filled him in on what had happened in the s courtyard. Harris looked straight at Daron.
“Daron, go check on her.”
“Yes, Grandpa, Daron said, not hesitating for a second. He got up and headed out of the main hall.
Everyone watched Daron leave, a hint of doubt flickering in their eyes.
Matthew was the first to break the silence, his voice deep and serious. “Harris, what happened?”
Harris answered calmly, his tone steady. The girl Hayley adopted just fell down the stairs. I sent Daron to see what’s go
on.”
When they heard it was Zara who’d taken the fall, nobody looked all that worried anymore.
She might be likable, but she wasn’t really part of the Zamora family. No blood ties, after all. As long as someone went check on her, that was good enough for them.
When Daron walked into the side courtyard, he saw the doctor was already examining Zara.
Zara had finally calmed down, her eyes still red as she quietly cooperated with the doctor.
She’d twisted her ankle coming down the stairs, and her foot was completely immobile.
Marina stood quietly off to the side, not saying a word.
Bette just stood next to Marina, gave Zara a quick once–over, picked up the pearls from the floor, and headed upstairs without looking back.
Seeing this, Zara, biting back the pain, called out, “Bette, watch your step.”
Bette nodded and said, “Okay,” but didn’t slow down at all.
When Daron walked into the living room, he glanced at Marina first. Seeing she was fine, he turned his attention to Zara.
When Zara saw Daron walk in, her eyes grew even redder, tears welling up and threatening to spill over
“Daron, I’m fine, really,” she said softly.
Daron walked over, seeing her putting on a brave face, and said quietly, “You call this fine?
Hayley was talking with the family doctor, and when she heard Zara needed to go to the hospital to get her ankle checked out, she turned to Daron and said seriously, “Daron, you’re the strongest here. Carry your sister to the car.”
Daron nodded, bent down, and gently lifted Zara off the sofa.
Bette stood at the top of the stairs, holding the other half of the broken pearl necklace.
As soon as she picked it up, the pearls went rolling down the steps like they were having a party.
Daron was already carrying Zara out the door, with Hayley right behind them.

Bette watched their backs and reminded them, her voice cool, I already called an ambulance”

Hayley replied quietly, “No idea how long it’ll take for the ambulance to get here. Let’s get her out first. If we run into it on the way, we can stop it.”
Bette just arched an eyebrow, said nothing more, and focused on the pearls in her hand again.
Marina stood frozen, watching as Daron carried Zara out the door. Instinctively, she started to follow after them.
She barely took two steps before a pearl from upstairs rolled under her foot. Her foot landed on it, she slipped and went down hard, hitting the floor with a dull thud.
Marina was so stunned by the fall. Instinctively, her eyes darted toward Daron.
Daron was already hurrying out of the side courtyard with Zara in his arms.
As Marina looked up, her gaze locked with Zara’s for a split second.
Zara quickly looked away, curling up in Daron’s arms.
Marina took a deep breath, her lungs aching with every inhale.
Bette stood at the top of the stairs. When she saw Marina fall, she came down and pulled her to her feet.
“You okay? You didn’t hurt my little nephew, did you?”
There was a playful note in her voice.
Marina was totally fine. She hadn’t even twisted her ankle. Honestly, the only thing that hurt was her backside from that hard landing.
“I’m fine,” Marina said.
Marina slipped her arm out of Bette’s grasp, catching the mocking smile on Bette’s face. She frowned, making sure the cameras couldn’t read her lips, then leaned in and muttered under her breath.
“You know I’m not pregnant. Why did you say that?”
Bette’s lips curled into a sly smile as she whispered back, “Doesn’t it make things a little more lively?”
Marina took a deep breath and started to say, “Zara…”
Bette’s lips curled into a smile as she said, “Relax, she’s not picking on you.”
“Honestly, no matter who Daron ends up marrying, this house is always going to be this dramatic.”
Bette gave Marina’s shoulder a light, almost careless pat, her tone breezy and playful.
“Watch yourself. That girl’s got some history with my brother. She saved his life once,” Bette said.
Marina’s head snapped up, her eyes wide as she stared at Bette.
Bette’s lips curled into a sly smile as she said, “I’m honestly curious. What kind of moves did your grandpa teach you to deal
with them?”
