Chapter 338
Besides herself and Daron, only Joyce, Corrine, and Albert knew about Elnora’s condition.
Albert would never tell Carter.
She also trusted that Daron wouldn’t say a word about it.
That left only Joyce and Corrine as the possible sources.

‘Since you’ve already read the diagnosis report, you should know my sister’s condition isn’t even close to being critical,” Marina said, her tone cold.
‘And even if something did happen to her, it’s not your business to come here and cause a fuss. When you decided to leave with Mary, Grandpa already disowned you and made it official in the papers. Did you forget that?”
Carter’s face darkened. He replied, his voice low and steady, “Yeah, I broke things off with your grandpa, but I never cut ties with your sister or you.”
Your sister…”
Marina cut him off, her voice icy. She didn’t want to hear any bad news about Elnora from Carter.
‘Give it up. Not a single cent of my sister’s assets will ever go to you.”
Carter’s expression soured, his voice icy as he said, “What are you getting at? Are you saying your sister already made a will?”
Marina shot Carter a cold look and headed toward the conference room.
Carter hurried after her, his tone no longer as composed as before.
‘Marina, be straight with me. Did Elnora really put you in charge of the Finley Group?” he pressed.
‘Listen, the Finley Group is a mess right now. You’ve been away from Vrufield for so long, you don’t have a handle on the local connections anymore. If you take over, it’ll be even tougher for you than it ever was for your sister.”
“Why not let me take over? I can handle it. I…”
Marina stopped at the conference room door, her voice cold and steady. “You really think you’re still part of Vrufield’s elite? Tell me, which big family here has invited you to anything these past years?”
“Your name’s been forgotten in this circle for ages. If you walked out there now, most people wouldn’t even recognize you.”
“You just want to cling to the Finley Group to push your own agenda, right? Even when Grandpa was alive, he never planned to hand the Finley Group over to you.
“Now Elnora’s patched up the mess you left behind, and you think you can just stroll back in and expect everything to go your way? Not a chance. We won’t agree, and neither will the shareholders.”
With that, Marina walked into the conference room and took a seat.
With a frosty look, Carter pulled out the chair next to Marina and sat down.
“How can you be so sure the shareholders won’t back me? When the Finley Group hit a rough patch recently, plenty of them were dumping their shares left and right.”

Marina didn’t even look his way. She smirked and shot back, “So, how many shares of the Finley Group did you actually manage to buy?”
Carter was stumped by Marina’s question.
Recently, a number of shareholders really had been dumping their Finley Group shares.
As soon as he got wind of it, he scrambled to pull together the funds to buy in.
But by the time he finally had the cash, the sellers backed out at the last minute.
In the end, all he got was a measly 3% from a minor shareholder.
The shares he held only gave him a cut of the dividends. He had no voting rights, no real say in how things were run. Sure, he could show up at the Finley Group’s shareholder meetings, but his voice didn’t count for anything.
But Carter was desperate to get back into the Finley Group.
So he had no choice but to play the long game, one step at a time.
Lately, he’d been meeting with some of the Finley Group’s shareholders, making it clear he wanted to buy their shares.
But not a single one was willing to sell.
In fact, everyone was unexpectedly optimistic about the Finley Group’s future.
It wasn’t until Carter did some digging that he realized Elnora had ended up marrying Albert.
The Campbell family stepped in and cleared all the Finley Group’s debts without batting an eye.
Just then, Joyce tipped him off about Elnora’s illness, acting all friendly.
Carter felt a glimmer of hope rise in his chest once more.
So today, he was itching to crash the Finley Group’s shareholder meeting, dragging Reynaldo along for backup.
He was even planning to expose Elnora’s condition right there in front of everyone.
“How many shares I own isn’t the point. What matters is, we’re family. Whether it’s me or your sister sitting at the head of the Finley Group, we’re both doing it for the good of the Finley family and the company,” Carter said.
Marina’s lips curled into a mocking smile as she swept a glance over Reynaldo.
“I seem to recall that assistants aren’t allowed at the Finley Group’s shareholder meetings,” she said.
Carter said seriously, “Marina, Reynaldo isn’t just an assistant. He’s your brother.”
Marina nearly burst out laughing at that.
“My brother? Do we even share any blood? Dad, he’s not even your family, let alone mine. Seriously, don’t say things like that. It’s just ridiculous,” she said.
Carter’s face stiffened. “Marina, don’t be so rude.”
Marina didn’t even spare Carter a glance. She just shot a look at Anya by the door and said, “Anya, please clear out any unauthorized personnel from the conference room. The shareholders will be here any minute.”

Anya replied. “Yes” and walked over to Reynaldo, making a poline gesture for him to leave
A few security guards entered the room alongude Anga
Earlier, when Carter was making a scene outside Elnora’s office. Anya had already called security upsta
But since Carter was the father of Marina and Elnora, the guards held back and didn’t use force
Now that Marina had spoken up, if Reynaldo tried to linger Anga would have the guards escort him out immediately
Reynaldo danced at Carter
Carter gave a slight nod, and Reynaldo had no choice but to leave the conference room
After Reynaldo left, the Finley Group’s shareholder started arriving one aber another
Emeric, the agent Daron had introduced to Elnora, also arrived in the conference room.
Once all the shareholders were in Emeric stepped up and locked off the meeting
He started by talking about the deals he’d closed and the fixes he’d made in his fix mouth on the job then jumped gir into what was next for the company and where things were headed
Before he could finish Carter cut in
Since Mr. Chauvin just brought up the company’s future plans, there’s something I need to call out right here and n Otherwise, if a bombshell drops later, everyone will be left dueless about witar to do. Carter said.
With that, Carter stood up and walked over to Emeric
Mr. Chauvin, mind if I use your laptop for a second? I want to show everyone a few pictures. Carter said.
tes
Emeric scapped his laptop shum, a faint smile playing on his lips as he looked up at Carter. Without hesitation, he replied. “I
do
Carter’s face stiffened, his eyes narrowing with displeasure as he glared at Emeric
If he ever took the reins again, the first person he’d kick out would be this so–called stand–in
Emeric was just a mutt Elnora picked up, and he actually had the nerve to mouth off to him
“Since Mr. Chauvin won’t let me use his laptop to share the photos, I’ll just spell it out for everyone,” Carter said
“Elnora, the current chairwoman of the Finley Group, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer, and her condition is terminal. As her father, I can’t keep this secret from you any longer. That’s why I’m coming clean today and selling you all
the truth
“I just don’t want anyone left in the dark if something happens to the company down the line.”
