Carter’s face darkened. He replied, his voice low and steady, “Yeah, I broke things off with your grandpa, but I never cut ties with your sister or you.”

Marina cut him off, her voice icy. She didn’t want to hear any bad news about Elnora from Carter.
‘Give it up. Not a single cent of my sister’s assets will ever go to you.”
Carter’s expression soured, his voice icy as he said, “What are you getting at? Are you saying your sister already made a will?”
Marina shot Carter a cold look and headed toward the conference room.
Carter hurried after her, his tone no longer as composed as before.
‘Marina, be straight with me. Did Elnora really put you in charge of the Finley Group?” he pressed.
‘Listen, the Finley Group is a mess right now. You’ve been away from Vrufield for so long, you don’t have a handle on the local connections anymore. If you take over, it’ll be even tougher for you than it ever was for your sister.”

Marina stopped at the conference room door, her voice cold and steady. “You really think you’re still part of Vrufield’s elite? Tell me, which big family here has invited you to anything these past years?”

Marina didn’t even look his way. She smirked and shot back, “So, how many shares of the Finley Group did you actually manage to buy?”
Carter was stumped by Marina’s question.
Recently, a number of shareholders really had been dumping their Finley Group shares.

So he had no choice but to play the long game, one step at a time.
Lately, he’d been meeting with some of the Finley Group’s shareholders, making it clear he wanted to buy their shares.
But not a single one was willing to sell.

“I seem to recall that assistants aren’t allowed at the Finley Group’s shareholder meetings,” she said.
Carter said seriously, “Marina, Reynaldo isn’t just an assistant. He’s your brother.”
Marina nearly burst out laughing at that.
“My brother? Do we even share any blood? Dad, he’s not even your family, let alone mine. Seriously, don’t say things like that. It’s just ridiculous,” she said.
Carter’s face stiffened. “Marina, don’t be so rude.”
Marina didn’t even spare Carter a glance. She just shot a look at Anya by the door and said, “Anya, please clear out any unauthorized personnel from the conference room. The shareholders will be here any minute.”
