Chapter 342
Reynaldo looked away from the distance and caught Carter looking thoughtful.

“Carter, don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts now that Marina’s gotten in with Mr. Zamora?” Reynaldo said in a low voice.
“Don’t forget what you promised my mother,” he added.
Carter came back to himself when Reynaldo reminded him. He gave Reynaldo a look of mild annoyance.
“I promised your mother, and I’ll keep my word.
“I’ll talk to Emeric myself and get you in at Finley Group one of these days,” Carter said.
Reynaldo nodded, looking pleased, and grinned. “Carter, I’m not forcing you or anything, but you’ve seen how Marina and Elnora treat you. Someday, you’ll have to count on me.”
“They might not bother with you, but I’ll always have your back,” Reynaldo added.
“Once I’ve got my footing in this circle, things will get a lot better for you. Haven’t you always wanted to prove to your father that you made the right choices? Trust me, when I join Finley Group, I’ll make sure you get the respect you deserve,” he promised.
Carter shot Reynaldo a look and said in a low voice, “I’m not asking you to stand up for me. Just don’t make trouble for me at Finley Group.”
Reynaldo gave a half–smile, but it quickly faded into a wry grin.
Although Carter didn’t hold high expectations for Reynaldo, he couldn’t help but want to pave the way for Reynaldo, since Mary only had this one son, whom she had cherished and doted on for years.
Carter knew for sure Marina and Elnora would never accept him as their father again.
At this point, he could only grit his teeth and keep going.
He didn’t even want to imagine what his old age would look like. All he could do was take a chance.
When Marina got into Daron’s car, she pulled her hand away and shifted over to the other side, putting a bit of distance between them.
“What brings you to Finley Group?” she asked.
She was fairly certain Daron’s schedule didn’t mention anything about the Finley Group.
Watching Marina pull away from him, Daron asked quietly, “So just because you’re working at Finley Group, I’m not allowed to come see you?”
Marina just stared at him, lost for words.
“Of course you can,” she replied.
She really hadn’t expected him to come to her.

He’d even told her this morning that she didn’t have to come to Zamora Group this afternoon.
But now he was here, so it looked like she couldn’t escape her fate of working this afternoon after all.
Marina had thought she could sneak in a half–day break.
Seeing that Daron stayed quiet, Marina spoke up.

“What do you want for lunch? Should I order something to the office, or do you want to eat out before we head back?”
Daron glanced at her and replied, “Your call. I’m good with anything.”
“Alright,” Marina nodded.
“Let’s eat out before heading back to the office.”
As she spoke, she pulled out her phone to book a table.
“Any place you’ve been craving lately?” Marina asked.
She browsed through restaurants on her phone, tossing out the question offhandedly.
“Your pick. Whatever you feel like eating, that’s where we’ll go,” Daron replied.
Marina raised an eyebrow and looked up from her phone at Daron.
Normally, whenever she asked, Daron would just tell her what he wanted.
But today, he was leaving everything up to her, and honestly, it felt a little weird.
Sensing Marina’s gaze, Daron asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Marina shook her head and said quietly.
‘Still, he does seem a bit strange today, she thought.
Daron lounged back in his seat, his voice low as he said, “I’m trying to please you. Can’t you tell?”
Hearing that, Marina glanced at Daron, a bit taken aback.
Suddenly, it dawned on her why he felt off today. It was because he was actually speaking to her in a much gentler tone than usual.
“Honestly, I didn’t really feel it,” Marina teased.
She glanced down and suggested, “How about Silkwind Kitchen?”
“Sounds good,” Daron nodded.
With Daron’s approval, the driver immediately headed for Silkwind Kitchen.
On the way to Silkwind Kitchen, Marina had already placed their order.
Since Daron said everything was up to her, she didn’t even ask what he wanted and just ordered mostly the dishes she liked

best.
By the time they got to their private dining room, their food was already waiting for them.
They sat down, and the waiter began bringing out the dishes one by one.
After everything was on the table, the waiter quietly slipped out.

Marina picked up her fork, glanced up at Daron, and asked softly, “Why are you trying to please me? Is it because of what happened at the winery last night?”
Daron nodded and replied quietly, “Was it not obvious?”
Marina nodded, giving a soft “mm.”
‘Honestly, it wasn’t obvious. I didn’t even feel it,” she said.
At this, Daron gave her a helpless look.
‘I thought about it this morning. Last night, I really wasn’t very considerate. You’d been working all day and were totally wiped out. I should’ve sent you home to rest earlier,” he said, his voice low.
‘It’s fine, I didn’t really mind. It’s just what I do,” Marina smiled faintly as she replied.
Daron frowned, his voice low. “I don’t like it when you act like our marriage is just work to you.”
Hearing that, Marina looked up at him, biting her lip, and asked softly, “So how am I supposed to treat it then?”
Daron let out a sigh and set his fork down.
‘Being your boss at work is more than enough. When we’re at home, I just want us to be like a real married couple,” he said.
Marina fell silent.
There was no way their relationship could ever be like a normal marriage.
Their marriage was built on mutual benefit, not love.
Marrying each other was a spur–of–the–moment thing, just because they both had something the other wanted.
As Marina didn’t answer, Daron frowned and asked, “Is it really that tough for you?”
Marina looked up at him, shook her head.
“No, it’s not,” she replied.
“I’ll try to loosen up and not treat things so much like a business when we’re home,” she added.
Daron’s eyes flashed with resignation. He really didn’t know what else to say.
But even as Marina promised to be less formal, she was still all business about it.
She looked away from Daron and continued.
“Seriously, you don’t need to worry about what happened last night.”

“How am I supposed to just brush it off? We’ve only been married a few days, and you’re already moving to the guest room, giving me the cold shoulder, and acting like we’re sleeping apart. Honestly, it’s hard not to let it get to me,” Daron said.
“It’s been bugging me all day,” he added.
