Daron returned home from the Zamora mansion. He entered through the garage, where only the ambient lighting in the living room was on.
As he stepped inside, the lights came on automatically.
Daron frowned slightly, set the food container down on the table, and headed upstairs.
Sure enough, Marina wasn’t there.
In fact, when he had entered earlier and seen her slippers untouched, he had already suspected as much, but he still wanted to confirm it himself.
Seeing Marina wasn’t home, Daron grabbed his phone and dialed her number.
Marina answered almost instantly.
He could still hear the clatter of machines in the background on her end.
Daron frowned, his voice serious as he asked, “Are you still at the factory?”
Marina said, “Yeah, one of the machines broke down. We’ve got a shipment due the day after tomorrow, so they’re still working on repairs.”
She’d just wrapped things up at the factory and was about to leave when, right on cue, the machine went down.
The delivery date was approaching.
Over the years, this factory had been the only profitable one in the Finley Group, and this client was an overseas partner in their first collaboration.
Whether they pull through this crisis will decide if the factory can set new records for future orders.
The maintenance crew has been working overtime to fix the machine, and nobody’s had dinner yet.
As part of the Finley Group, and now acting on behalf of Elnora, there’s no way Marina would just leave everyone hanging.
Even though she doesn’t know much about machinery, she stayed on site to support the crew, and made sure everyone got dinner.
During breaks, she chatted with them a little, making them feel recognized and valued by Finley Group.
Daron frowned, his voice low. “Doesn’t the factory have its own professional maintenance technicians?”
Marina replied, “Yeah, of course.
Daron frowned. “Then why hasn’t it been fixed yet?”
Marina said, “It’s just, this issue is more complicated”
Daron asked, “What kind of headache are you dealing with?”
Not every company was like the Zamora Group, with access to the top technical experts in the business.

The Finley Group once had highly skilled technicians, but after the company ran into trouble, it could no longer match the salaries offered by other firms, and those people left.
Survival of the fittest, that’s just how it goes.
The ones who stayed have been with the Finley Group for years.
They weren’t incompetent, but compared to those who had left, they weren’t as outstanding.
The Zamora Group’s competition was fierce. Even if one top talent left, another would immediately take their place.
Daron just couldn’t wrap his head around why the Finley Group would keep a crew of mechanics who weren’t exactly top-
tier.
But Marina knew exactly why Elnora kept them around.
It was Elnora’s hidden, gentle and warm side.
Besides, even though the machines sometimes act up, the factory still manages to make a profit.
They could feel Elnora’s genuine care, and in return, they’d always go the extra mile for her.
Just like today.
In Vrufield, non–voluntary overtime was considered forced overtime, and companies could be fined for it.
Yet they still chose to stay. Most of the workers remained at the factory, waiting for the machine to be fixed so they could rush the final shipment.
Daron would never understand this kind of loyalty.
Marina didn’t respond right away, and for a moment, the line went completely quiet.
Daron said, “If it’s really that tricky, I can get someone over to help out. Which factory is it, and what model are you dealing with?”
Before Daron could finish, a man’s excited voice burst through the phone.
“Marina, we did it!” someone said.
“It’s fixed!” another said.
Marina’s attention was instantly drawn away, and she didn’t catch a word of what Daron was saying. She put away her phone and headed straight for the machine,
“Is it fixed? Will we be able to get the shipment to the dock in time for the day after tomorrow?” she asked.
The person in charge nodded. “Absolutely, we’ll make it.”
“All the workers are still here at the factory, everyone volunteered to stay late, and they’re rushing to finish the last batch Don’t worry. We’ve got this, he continued.
Marina nodded, a genuine smile spreading across her face.
“That’s great. Elnora said that after this rush is over, there will be cash bonuses for everyone, separate from wages. compensation for everyone’s hard work, Marina said.

“Once the shipment’s out, please let everyone know. I’ll come by myself and do my best to make sure every single person gets their compensation,” Marina added.
The person in charge immediately thanked Elnora on behalf of all the workers and threw in a compliment for Marina as well.
Marina took a quick look around the workshop to check on the busy workers, then quietly slipped out after letting the person in charge know she was leaving.
She’d barely left the factory when Kara’s call came through.
Marina, you free for some late–night snacks?” Kara asked.
Marina had been so focused on the delivery at the factory that she barely ate anything. So when Kara invited her out, she aid yes right away.
Sure, I’m so hungry,” Marina replied with a laugh, “You called at the perfect time.”
Kara said, “Should I come get you?”
Marina replied, “Just send me the location. I’m already driving, I’ll be there in no time.”
Kara said, “Okay, I’ll send it right now.”
she hung up, and a moment later, a location pin came through.
Marina tapped the location Kara sent and drove straight over, not giving Daron another thought.
Daron stood there, phone in hand, staring at the blank screen for a few seconds before finally accepting it and putting the >hone away.
With Marina’s issue sorted out, she’d likely be back soon.
He walked downstairs, glanced at the three–tier food container on the table, and ultimately left it untouched. Instead, he >pened the fridge, took out some ingredients Marina had bought earlier, and started cooking something for her.
She’d been at the factory all afternoon, so she probably hadn’t had a chance to eat, Daron thought.
Half an hour later, the food was ready, yet Marina still hadn’t returned.
He pulled out his phone and called her, but she didn’t pick up.
Daron’s brows drew together, a flicker of worry flashing in his eyes.
Marina never ignored his calls unless something was wrong or she was already asleep.
She wasn’t home yet, so sleeping was out of the question.
The only explanation left was that something must’ve happened to her.
Daron snatched his coat off the couch and rushed out the door, dialing up Emeric to find out what Marina had been up to today.
