Kara had always been a little intimidated by Daron. Seeing him sitting there with Finn, she straightened up and lowered her voice to whisper to Marina

They’re here for you, aren’t they?Kara asked

Marina was speechless

She didn’t answer Kara. Just then, Finn raised his glass to them in a silent toast

Marina quickly threw Kara under the bus

Obviously, they’re here for you,Marina said, tossing the blame right back at Kara

Did you sneak home without telling Finn, and now he’s here to track you down? Or did you cause some trouble again?Marina teased

Kara sucked in a breath and said in a low voice, No way.”

Did that bastard really snitch on me to my brother?Kara muttered

Marina caught the frustration in Kara’s voice, and a flicker of curiosity flashed in her eyes. She hadn’t expected her offhand comment to actually uncover something

What guy?Marina asked, What did he snitch about?”

Kara, aren’t we best friends? Why do I feel like you’re keeping secrets from me now?Marina continued teasing

Kara gritted her teeth. It’s just too embarrassing to talk about. I’ll tell you when we’re somewhere private.”

Marina nodded, her curiosity piqued. Seeing Kara make that face, she couldn’t help but think, This is going to be good

With those two big shots, Daron and Finn, sitting right across from them, Kara and Marina couldn’t help but sit up straight and mind their manners

By the end of the meal, their backs ached from sitting so stiffly

They finished quickly, exchanged a look, and slipped out before the performance ended

After Marina and Kara left, Daron lost all appetite

But since he’d come with Finn, and didn’t want Finn to think he was being bossy, he stayed seated

Finn glanced over at Daron, a faint smile tugging at his lips

He could tell Daron was itching to leave, but he purposely kept quiet, just kept watching the dancers in the middle of the floor, acting like he was totally into it

You know, whoever thought of this concept, that’s pretty genius, huh?Finn said

This place is blowing up online. It’s bringing in people from out of town,Finn added. I had to pull some strings just to get us this prime spot.”

Daron didn’t hear a word of what Finn was going on and on about

Half an hour later, Daron finally snapped. He shot a look at Finn, who was still munching away while watching the dancers, nd said coldly. Aren’t you done eating?”

inn raised an eyebrow and said, Places like this are meant for savoring, beauties with wine. Isn’t the ambience perfect?”

Daron didn’t bother answering

The next second, something unexpected happened

One of the female dancers had her skirt stepped on, and she was sent stumbling forward

ler skirt got tugged, fabric tearing and exposing much of her skin

he fell right in front of Daron

With a single glance downward, Daron saw far too much

He frowned, grabbed his jacket, and tossed it over her, covering her completely

The dancer, mortified, was startled by the sudden jacket, but quickly wrapped herself up and looked up gratefully, only to ee Daron already standing

Let’s go,” Daron said to Finn

Finn raised an eyebrow and followed after him

The dancer didn’t even get to thank him before he disappeared

soon, the stage manager hurried over, helped her up, and another dancer took her place

she kept glancing back at the door, trying to steady her pounding heart

Marina and Kara went their separate ways right at the entrance of the Exquisite Feast

Kara stomped off, grumbling about tracking someone down and making them pay

Marina watched her leave, totally clueless about what had gotten Kara so worked up

After Kara’s car pulled away, Marina got into her own ride

She glanced at the time, started the engine, and headed back to her place

Back at her place, after washing up, she sprawled out on her bed and grabbed her phone to check the Finley Group group

chat

Unlocking her phone, she realized Daron had tried calling her several times

Her phone had been stuffed in her bag, and with the loud music at the Exquisite Feast, she hadn’t heard a thing

The first thing Marina did was call Emeric back

Emeric picked up right away.

Mr. Chauvin, did you need something?Marina asked

Emeric replied, It wasn’t me. Mr Zamora was looking for you. He called me to ask where you were”

Marina was speechless

Guess Daron really was looking for me, Marina thought

She’d thought bumping into him at Exquisite Feast was just a coincidence

Got it,Marina said

She hung up with Emeric and decided not to call Daron back, as she figured she’d just ask him about it when he got back

But then she remembered how Daron hadn’t really said much to her when she saw him earlier, so it probably wasn’t anything serious

Marina glanced at the work group chat, saw nothing important, put her phone down, and crashed into bed

As she was falling asleep, she subconsciously felt Daron come into the bedroom

Soon, the mattress sank beside her

She was so tired she didn’t even want to open her eyes. Barely awake, she muttered, You’re back?”

Daron glanced at her, noticing how worn out she looked. Seeing her exhaustion, he pulled her into his arms, letting go of his earlier irritation

Marina settled into Daron’s arms, found a comfortable spot, and drifted off to sleep

The next morning, Marina woke up to find Daron already gone. It almost felt like she’d imagined being held last night

She rubbed her temples, washed up, and headed to the walkin closet to pick out Daron’s outfit for the day

Noticing one of his usual workout sets was missing, she figured he must have gone for his morning run

If Hayley wasn’t always throwing shade or playing petty games with her, Marina honestly felt Daron would make an amazing boyfriend

Unfortunately, he just had way too much history with Hayley and Zara
