Right at that moment, Marina’s phone started ringing. She struggled a bit, then lifted her head to look at Daron. “Let me answer this,” she said softly.
Though there was a trace of irritation in Daron’s eyes, he still released her hand. Marina reached for her phone and saw it was Kara returning her call. She picked up right away.
“Hey, Kara, you up?” Marina asked.
Earlier this morning, when Marina heard from the hotel security that Kara had already left, she called Kara immediately. but her phone was already off.
Kara’s voice was a bit raspy. “I’m in Frency now,” she said.
Marina was surprised. “Didn’t Finn say you were supposed to stay in Yorelia? Why did you suddenly move?”
Kara was quiet for a moment, then she said softly, “Honestly, it’s pretty much the same in Yorelia and Frency. I med to live Frency for a while, so I’m just more used to things here.”
Marina bit her lip, a hint of loneliness flickering in her eyes. Still, it didn’t really matter. Whether Kara was Irving in Frenc or Yorelia, Marina could always drop by whenever she had the time.
“Okay, just send me your address once you’re settled in. When I finish up my business here in Yorelia, I’ll come visit you,” Marina said.
Kara had just arrived in Frency, so she must be having a hard time adjusting. But she didn’t take Marina up on her offer, said no right away.
‘Marina, don’t come visit me,” Kara said. “I need some time alone. If you come, it’ll just make things harder for me.
‘Let’s not see each other for a while, maybe even a couple of years. I’m worried that if I see you guys, I won’t be strong enough. I need to get used to things and toughen up on my own. I can’t keep always leaning on you guys for advice or help
After all, she was going to be a mom soon. Marina noticed the shift in Kara’s mood and took a deep breath. She bit her hip her eyes turning a little misty.
Back when Kathy brought her back to Sicester, Marina had been through something similar herself. She just warped to shrin everyone out. Even her closest friends weren’t an exception.
When Kara came all the way to Sicester to see her, Marina wouldn’t even open the door for her.
‘Kara, no matter what, we’re still best friends,” Marina said softly. “T’ll let you have your space, but not for too long Those were Kara’s words to her back then, and now Marina was returning them. Tim coming to see you next month, so you’d better send me your address yourself. Otherwise, I’ll just ask Finn for it.” Marina said.
Kara was quiet for a moment, then said softly, “Okay. I’ll send you my address. But if you don’t show up you’re dead meat.
A small smile tugged at Marina’s lips as she said quietly, “You once climbed a wall just to see me. Compared to that, all I have to do is hop on a plane for a few hours.”
Her words brought back all those old memories, and Kara sounded a little brighter. Hearing Kara laugh, Marina felt herself relax a little, too.
Choosing to keep the baby must have been incredibly tough on Kara. She was likely going through absolute hell inside.

caught up in the mess with the baby’s father and already facing all the complications and drama that would come once the child was born.
“Marina, I’m feeling a bit sleepy. I think I’ll take a nap. Are you in Yorelia now, too? Kara asked.
Marina replied sofily, “Yeah, I just got here”
Kara said, “Guess it’s time for you to handle your business, huh? Hope everything goes smoothly
Marina replied gently. “Elnora already took care of all the details. We’re just here to touch base and sign the contract.”
Kara’s voice sounded amused as she said, “Must be nice–you get to mooch off your sister, and I get to ride on my brother Together, we’re basically the dream team of sibling freeloaders.”
Marina couldn’t help but laugh at that. Honestly, having someone to mooch off had its own kind of happiness.
After ending the call with Kara, Marina looked up at Daron, who was sitting silently beside her. His intense gaze was locked on her, with a trace of annoyance in his eyes.
Noticing his mood, Marina asked, “What’s up?”
I just called Kara. Did I do something to annoy him?‘ she thought. ‘Man, he’s so unpredictable.
Daron glanced down at her and said quietly, “Did you forget something?”
Marina tilted her head, thought about it, then shook her head. “Did I forget something?” she asked. As she spoke, she quickh rummaged through her briefcase.
Her first instinct was that she must have screwed something up at work, and now Daron was probably questioning her
competence.
Watching her frantic search, Daron pinched the bridge of his nose, a look of helplessness flickering in his eyes. He said in a low voice, “You don’t just have your sister to mooch off.
“You should’ve told Kara you’ve got a husband to leech off of, that makes you the winner here.”
Marina just gave him a look, speechless. She said, “Do we really have to compete over something like this? Isn’t that kind of pointless?”
Besides, Kara was all alone in Frency, waiting to have her baby. Even if it was just a joke, Marina really didn’t want to rub salt in her best friend’s wound. But since Daron had no idea what was really going on, Marina decided to let it go
Daron wrapped his arm around Marina’s waist, his voice low and deep. “If you ever mess up or get into trouble, just tell me. I’ll cover for you, no matter what,” he said.
Marina glanced sideways at him, nodded, and replied, “Okay,”
Daron raised an eyebrow. “Don’t trust me?”
Marina nodded, “Yeah, I do.”
She believed him. But honestly, Marina had even more faith in herself. She was sure she’d never mess up so badly that Daron would have to step in and save her.
The car pulled up in front of the company Finley Group was partnering with. One of her colleagues who got out first from another car came over and opened the back door for Marina.

Marina bent down and got out. Just as Daron was about to get out, Marina turned around and leaned over blowking his way
“Mr. Zamora, your reputation precedes you. Better stay in the car and let me handle this, the seaed
For a small deal like this, if Daron joined her at the negotiation table, ird be like bringing a tank to a knife Sgt. Bristes Marina was more than confident she could seal the deal on her own.
If she couldn’t even walk the path Elnora had already paved for her, then she wouldn’t be of much we
Daron got the message and just sat back in his seat, saying calmly, “Alright. I wait for you in the car
The staff standing behind Marina couldn’t help but notice that the CEO, who was always so cold and intimidating voldenby sounded surprisingly well–behaved. They kept their heads down, barely hiding the shock in their eyes
‘Mr. Zamora is completely under Ms. Marina’s thumb, one of them couldn’t help but think
‘So this is what they mean by one thing conquering another, another wondered.
