Zara watched as Harris headed inside, then tugged at Hayley’s sleeve and whispered, “Mom, should I still go to the site?”
Hayley was silent for a moment before replying in a low voice, “Of course you should go.”
She added, “Daron’s already back, and at the site, so you definitely need to be there too. There’ll be a lot of reporters at the site today, so make sure you make a good impression.”
Zara gave a small nod. “Don’t worry, Mom. I promise I’ll make you proud.”
Hayley smiled approvingly at Zara, then called Zane over to drive her to the construction site.
At the construction site, Daron was directing the rescue efforts, consulting with the rescue team on the rescue plan.
Because the accident was so serious, the senior officials responsible for this district had arrived on site to supervise the
response.
As the group huddled together to discuss, Zara stepped up, handing out bottles of water to the crew. “Here, have some water, everyone!” she called out.
Garret’s brow furrowed when he spotted Zara, something flickering in his eyes. Garret thought, ‘That suit on Zara… Why does that look so familiar? Where have I seen it before?‘
Daron was completely focused on the rescue efforts when Zara walked over, holding a bottle of water. “Have some water,” she offered.
Suddenly, the bottle Zara held out was right in front of Daron, blocking his view. Daron frowned, his expression cold. He pushed the bottle away and said coolly, “I’m not thirsty.”
Zara hadn’t expected Daron to brush her aside so suddenly, and she almost lost her balance, stumbling back a few steps. Even though she’d switched to flats before coming, the ground at the site was a mess of mud and potholes.
Zara hadn’t expected Daron to treat her so coldly. She bit her lip, but couldn’t bring herself to leave his side, so she kept busy nearby, just to stay close to him.
As the rescue team worked nonstop, everyone at the site was tense, anxiety hanging thick in the air. After all, nobody had any idea if the workers trapped below were even alive or not.
Three hours into the rescue, and still no one had been pulled out. Hayley remained quietly by Daron’s side, her silence speaking volumes as the tense rescue continued.
Inside the villa, Marina woke up naturally. She opened her eyes and glanced at the spot beside her. It was completely cold, like Daron never came to bed at all last night.
Even though Daron usually got up earlier than her, his side of the bed would still be warm. But now, the sheets were cold and not a single crease could be seen, like nobody had slept there at all
Marina kicked off the covers, got up, and after freshening up, went downstairs. Belinda already had breakfast ready: When she saw Marina coming down, she came over quickly with a hopeful smile.
“Good morning, Mrs. Zamora! Breakfast’s ready. Is Mr. Zamora still in bed?”

Marina looked a little surprised for a second, then shook her head. She said, “Didn’t he already get up?”

As she spoke, Marina glanced over at the entryway and spotted Daron’s slippers sitting on the rug; it looked like he’d already
gone out.
But Belinda usually woke up before Daron did. Yet she hadn’t seen him leave.
Belinda followed Marina’s gaze to the slippers by the door and said, “Looks like Mr. Zamora’s slippers are here, but I didn’t see him leave this morning.”
If Daron had come down, she would’ve heard him, no matter if he took the elevator or the stairs.
Marina said, “Let me check.” She pulled out her phone and dialed Daron’s number.
The call connected almost instantly, but it was Garret’s voice that came through on the line. “Marina, Daron’s swamped r now. I’ll let him know to call you back when he gets a chance,” Garret said.
Marina could hear how tired Garret sounded, so she didn’t push him. “Alright,” she said.
She ended the call. Just as she was about to put her phone down, a news alert popped up on her screen.
Zamora Group’s new building collapses! Mr. Zamora rushes to the scene in the middle of the night to direct the rescue.] Marina saw the headline and immediately tapped it open. After reading the article carefully, her brows knitted together. With a major safety accident like this, it looked like the entire project was about to be shut down for a safety inspection. She glanced at the photos and, sure enough, spotted Daron right there in the crowd.
But then something else caught her eye: a petite girl in a suit, passing out water to people in the crowd. Marina frowned, puzzled. She scrolled through a few more pictures until she finally found a close–up of the girl’s face; it was Zara.
Zara isn’t even part of Zamora Group yet, and she’s already running out to the construction site in the middle of the night to help with the rescue?‘ Marina thought. She put her phone away, barely touched her breakfast, then got up.
Belinda was standing nearby, watching. When she saw Marina set her breakfast aside, she looked surprised and quickly asked, “Mrs. Zamora, is the breakfast not to your taste?”
Marina shook her head. “No, that’s not it.” She just didn’t have any appetite.
Marina grabbed her briefcase and headed out the door. She walked down to the garage, got in her car, and drove straight to the accident site.
When she arrived, she saw rescue workers gathered at the entrance. Families of those trapped were anxiously waiting outside. Marina pulled her hand back from the door handle, suddenly hesitating.
‘What am I even doing here?‘ she thought. Marina took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. The news had said three workers had already lost their lives in the accident, and just thinking about it made her heart sink.
They’d been rushed to the hospital as soon as it happened, but none of them made it. Their bodies were still in the hospital morgue. After pulling herself together, Marina started the car and headed straight for the hospital.
The rescue lasted nearly ten hours before all the workers were finally pulled out of the collapsed site. Every single one of them was rushed straight to the hospital.
Daron and the others went to the hospital too, to visit the workers and show their support. Zara naturally tagged along.
As soon as Daron got into his car, Zara quickly followed him inside. As the car started moving, Daron finally noticed Zara 2/3

Zara nodded. “Mom asked me to come along so I could see how things work,” Zara said. “Daron, I hope I didn’t make things harder for you?” she asked softly.
Daron shook his head. “No, you didn’t. Everything’s sorted out. When we reach the intersection, you can switch to the car behind us. I’ll have someone take you back.”
At the rescue site, Zara realized Daron wasn’t paying her any attention. After she tried to make her presence known a couple of times, she stopped hovering around him; she didn’t want to get on his nerves.
Clearly, giving him some space at the right moment was a wise call. Daron finally noticed her, and he didn’t seem bothered by her at all.
Zara shook her head gently and said, “I’ll go to the hospital with you.
“The families must be feeling devastated and angry right now. Someone needs to comfort them, and honestly, people usually respond better to a woman’s touch in these situations.”
Zara added, “Plus, Mom wants me to get some experience. Daron, please, don’t say no.”
