Marina had barely sat down when her phone lit up with a call from Daron.
She’d just taken her seat, and as soon as Chris gave the signal, the shareholders started digging in. Marina didn’t want to % up and make all the shareholders wait for her to finish eating, so she just stayed put.
She answered Daron’s call right there in her seat, acting like nothing was out of the ordinary. “What’s up?” she asked softly
She assumed Daron was calling to ask about what happened at the hospital earlier. After all, she was the first one to deal w the families.
Daron’s voice was low on the other end. “Where are you?” he asked.
Marina replied quietly, “The Finley Group shareholders are having dinner tonight. Didn’t Garret let you know?
Daron answered in a calm tone, “He did.”
Huh? Marina thought, a little puzzled. ‘Why bother calling if he already knows?‘ she wondered.
Just as Marina was still puzzled, Daron’s deep voice cut in again. “Where are you guys having dinner? I’m heading over,” he said.
Marina was caught off guard. ‘Wait, he’s coming over?‘ she thought, not expecting that at all. A Finley Group dinner wasn’t exactly the right occasion for him to drop by.
She didn’t answer right away, but Chris, sitting next to her, noticed her hesitation and asked, “Who is it?”
Marina looked up at Chris and replied, “Daron.”
Chris was in on some of Elnora’s plans. Marina only trusted Chris because of Elnora. That was why she answered his question.
Chris didn’t bat an eye, just asked in a steady voice, “Mr. Zamora is coming over?

After Chris gave the go–ahead, Marina was still puzzled about why Daron wanted to show up, but she sent him the restaur location anyway.
Once Daron got the restaurant address, he asked his driver to change course and head over. Zara sat in the front passenger seat, listening to Daron’s entire conversation with Marina.
She couldn’t make out what Marina was saying, but from Daron’s tone and attitude, she could tell he was in a really good mood. Zara clenched her fingers so hard that her nails dug into the soft flesh, leaving a deep indentation.
‘Marina really does have all the luck, Zara couldn’t help but think, feeling a pang of jealousy. ‘If I’d been the one to hold things together at the hospital today, Daron would’ve gone straight back with me to have dinner with mom, no questions asked, she fumed.
Zara could only curse herself for not getting to the hospital first and handling things. She’d let Marina slip in and snatch th opportunity right out from under her nose.
Daron was always claiming he was too busy with work to come back to the family home for dinner, but now he was reachi out to Marina to have lunch with her instead.
That kind of double standard made Zara feel even more resentful. Still, she couldn’t let any of it show on her face.
The driver pulled up in front of the restaurant in no time. Garret got out and held the door open for Daron. He got out of the car and walked straight into the restaurant.
Zara sat in the front passenger seat, quietly watching Daron’s back as he walked away, her thoughts swirling in silence. As Garret got back in the car, he looked at the front passenger seat.
