Zara strode into the print room, sifting through the pile of discarded documents until she found the one she’d spotted earlier.
She clutched it tightly, a calculating glint flashing in her eyes.
Garret suddenly spoke up behind her.
“Zara, let’s go and grab some lunch,” he said.
Zara nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard his voice out of nowhere.
“Garret,” she stammered, still startled.
Garret paused for a moment, then instinctively asked, “What are you looking at?”
Zara waved the document in front of Garret.
“Just reviewing some documents,” she replied.
Garret nodded, thinking, ‘Yeah, I did send her those files this morning.’”
“Come on, let’s grab some lunch,” he said.
Zara gave a quick nod and fell into step beside Garret as they left the print room.
She walked over to her desk, opened the drawer, and slipped the document inside.
As she put the file away, she cast a glance at Marina.
Marina seemed to sense it and looked up, catching Zara’s eye.
Zara gave Marina a small smile.
Garret noticed Marina was still busy and spoke up.
“Ms. Finley, why don’t you take a break and grab some lunch first? Don’t wear yourself out.”
Marina gave him a faint smile.
“I’ll be done soon,” she replied.
Garret nodded and said to Marina, “Alright, Zara and I will go and grab lunch at the cafeteria.”
Marina glanced up at Zara, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.
She’d assumed Zara would be eating with Daron in his office.
‘Looks like Daron didn’t give her the opportunity after all, Marina thought to herself.
Zara quietly bit her lip, deliberately looking away from Marina, then trailed after Garret out of the room.
Marina looked away from Zara, saved the updated file, and shot it over to Chloe’s inbox.

Chapter 393
Chloe had asked her to tweak this file for her.
Some of the numbers didn’t add up, so it needed a fix.

Chloe was tied up sorting out the workers‘ family compensation, so she had no choice but to hand the revision job to Marina.
Once Marina wrapped it up, she fired it off to Chloe’s inbox.
Chloe checked it over, made sure everything was good, and then shot Marina a quick reply.
[Thanks for your hard work, Ms. Finley.]
Marina: [It was nothing, really. No need to thank me.]
After sending her reply, Marina got up and headed toward Daron’s office.
Just as she reached the door, it swung open from the inside.
Daron looked at Marina standing in the doorway and said in a calm voice, “I was starting to think I’d have to come and get you myself before you’d join me for lunch.”
Marina replied calmly, “I just finished up a file for Chloe. Hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”
Daron let it go, took her hand, and led her into the office, closing the door behind them.

Later that afternoon, Chloe finished sorting out the issues with the workers‘ families and made her way back to her office.
There were still a few documents on her desk that needed Daron’s signature.
Earlier that morning, Chloe had asked Garret to review the files for her, so she headed over to check with him.
‘Garret, have you finished reviewing the files on my desk?” she asked.
Garret nodded.
“All the files have been reviewed, no issues at all,” he replied.
Chloe nodded in thanks and returned to her office. She printed out the file Marina had updated, added it to the stack of reviewed documents, and brought the whole batch over to Daron’s office.
Zara sat quietly at her desk, watching Chloe head off to Daron’s office with the files. She pursed her lips lightly, her expression unreadable.
About an hour later.
Chloe was called into Daron’s office.
When Daron buzzed her on the intercom, his voice was sharp and clearly annoyed.
Zara watched as Chloe walked into Daron’s office, and without missing a beat, she grabbed her own files and slipped in right
after.
As she pushed open the door and stepped inside, she saw Daron in the middle of scolding Chloe.

“Chloe, you’ve been in this position for years. How could you let such a rookie mistake happen?” Daron snapped.
Chloe picked up the file Daron had tossed in front of her, flipped through it, and froze for a few seconds.
She’d had Marina fix the errors in this file, and when Marina emailed it over, Chloe had personally double–checked. Everything was perfect.
But somehow, the file that was supposed to be shredded ended up right on Daron’s desk.
Chloe couldn’t figure out who had slipped it in with the rest.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Zamora, I…” Chloe stammered, her voice trembling.
Daron’s face was cold and sharp, his tone stern as he spoke, “Chloe, you know exactly how much trouble that would’ve brought to Zamora Group if I’d signed off on those numbers without catching the mistake.”
Chloe hung her head, apologizing softly.
At that moment, Daron finally noticed Zara coming in and said sternly. “Do you need something?”
Zara shook her head lightly. “No, nothing urgent. I just wanted to ask you for some advice on something.”
Daron’s face fell, clearly annoyed.
Zara took a deep breath and spoke carefully, “If you’re busy right now, I can come back later.”
Daron’s voice was cold, saying, “If you need anything, go to Garret. He knows the ins and outs of Zamora Group. He’s the best person to learn from around here.”
Zara’s face drained of color.
Daron was basically telling her not to bug him unless it was something urgent.
Zara bit her lip, kept her head down, and hurried out of Daron’s office, trying not to draw any more attention.
Taking advantage of the moment, Chloe quickly sifted through the pile of documents she’d just delivered, found the one Marina had updated, and handed it over to Daron.
She said, “Mr. Zamora, this is the most recent file with all the corrections.
‘I asked Ms. Finley to revise it this morning, and I double–checked. There were no issues. I’m not sure how the discarded version ended here. That’s on me, maybe I mixed them up…”
Chloe honestly had no idea who could’ve mixed that file in with the rest.
She and Garret had been working together for years. Sometimes, when Garret was swamped, he’d ask her to help him review files.
But nothing like this had ever happened all these years.
Luckily, Daron caught the mistake and didn’t sign the document. If he had, Chloe would’ve been screwed.
Even if she worked for the Zamora Group for the rest of her life, she still couldn’t compensate for the losses caused by this
mistake.
Right now, Chloe didn’t have a single suspect in mind, so she just owned up to it.

Chapter 393
After leaving Daron’s office, Chloe made up her mind. She was going to get to the bottom of who’d been snooping around her office.
Daron took the updated file from Chloe and reviewed it carefully. When he saw everything checked out, his face finally relaxed a bit.
After signing off, he still made sure to give Chloe a pointed warning.
Chloe admitted she’d messed up. When she walked out of Daron’s office, she looked pretty shaken.
She marched over to Bella and slammed the discarded file down on her desk.
Bella, how did this file end up in Mr. Zamora’s office? Didn’t I tell you to shred it this morning?” Chloe demanded, her voice harp with frustration.
Bella froze for a moment when she saw the file Chloe had slammed onto her desk, then quickly jumped to her feet, pologizing anxiously.
I’m so sorry, Chloe. I didn’t handle it properly, but I swear I wasn’t the one who put this file on Mr. Zamora’s desk,” Bella ›lurted out, her voice shaking.
That morning, when Chloe handed her the file, Bella was busy with the shredder.
Chloe got a call from one of the workers‘ families and had to rush off, so she handed Bella the file to shred with the others.
Suddenly, Bella had a breakthrough on the report she’d been stuck on. She got so caught up that she completely forgot bout the file.
she never imagined Chloe would get called into Daron’s office and chewed out because of this.
Bella was so ashamed that she kept her head down, not daring to meet Chloe’s eyes.
Marina picked up the old file from Bella’s hands and skimmed through it.
Chloe hurried to say, “Ms. Finley, this isn’t your fault at all. Thanks for jumping in and sorting out the date so fast.”
Marina shrugged it off, her voice steady as she said, “No worries. As long as it didn’t blow up into something serious, it’s all good.”
While she was answering, Marina felt eyes on her. She turned and caught Zara giving her a once–over.
