Chapter 438
Seeing the skeptical looks on the reporters‘ faces, Matthew quickly put on a smile and spoke up.

“What Daron means is, he needs to take a proper break and focus on his recovery. Once he’s fully recovered, he’ll be back at Zamora Group,” Matthew explained.
But the reporters clearly didn’t buy it.
They wanted a straight answer from Daron himself, so they kept pressing him for more.
But this time, Daron didn’t answer their questions. Instead, he turned to Martin and said, “Martin, I still have some of my stuff left in my office. I need to head upstairs and grab them. Is that okay with you?”
Martin quickly nodded his head. “No problem at all. I’ll go with you.”
Daron just nodded.
Martin followed Daron out of the reception hall toward the elevator.
The moment they saw Daron and Martin leaving, the reporters scrambled to catch up.
Zamora Group’s security quickly stepped in, stopping them cold.
Matthew glanced at Daron’s back as he walked away, his eyes narrowing with a glint of hidden depth. Something dark and calculating flickered across his gaze.
Once they were inside the elevator, Martin glanced at Daron and spoke up first.
“About grandpa…” Martin began.
But Daron cut him off, just patting Martin’s shoulder with a steady voice, “Now that you’re in this spot, make sure you do well.”
Martin let out a quiet sigh, his eyes swirling with complicated emotions.
Martin knew that, from now on, he and Daron were standing on opposite sides. They were competitors now, whether they liked it or not.
Martin let out a quiet sigh, glanced at Daron, and said, “I’ll try my best.”
Daron just nodded, not saying anything more.
The elevator reached their office floor.
Daron was the first to step out.
As Daron stepped out of the elevator and into the CEO’s office, the staff immediately stood up, their eyes glued to him.

Chloe hurried over.
“Mr. Zamora…” Chloe called out, her voice a little hesitant.

Daron nodded slightly and walked up to the office door and typed in his password, only to find out Martin had changed it.
Daron could only turn to look at Martin.
Martin’s eyes flashed with embarrassment, but he quickly smiled and walked over to enter the new password.
After Martin entered the password, Daron didn’t go in. Instead, he said calmly, “I guess you’ve already packed up everything for me. Could I trouble you to please bring out my personal belongings for me?”
Martin nodded, then told Chloe to go in and fetch Daron’s stuff.
Daron’s assistant took the cardboard box Chloe handed over.
Martin stood off to the side and spoke up. “Aren’t you gonna check if it’s all there?”
Daron sounded totally unconcerned. “There’s no need. If something’s left behind, just take it as my gift to you.”
Martin parted his lips, gave a couple of dry chuckles, and didn’t say another word.
Daron turned to head out.
Martin quickly called out. “Daron, aren’t you going to say something to everyone before you go?”
Martin’s gaze shifted to the office staff area as he spoke.
Every employee was standing by their desk, eyes fixed on Daron.
Daron looked unfazed. His voice was cool and casual as he said, “Keep up the good work.”
Leaving those words behind, he turned and walked out without another glance.
Martin pursed his lips and walked Daron to the elevator.
“You guys go ahead. I’ll stop here,” Martin said.
Daron said nothing.
As the elevator doors slid shut, Garret, who had been standing next to Daron, finally spoke up.
“He acts like he was shoved into this spot by Matthew, but he sure didn’t waste any time changing the password and clearing out my stuff,” Garret said.
Daron replied, “A shareholder who doesn’t want to be in charge isn’t much of a shareholder.”
“Matthew’s been wanting to run Zamora Group for years. Martin grew up right under his nose, soaking it all

in, so it’s only natural he wants that seat now,” Daron added.
Garret let out a cold snort.
“I just can’t stand how fake he acts, always putting on that nice guy front,” Garret said.

“If he wants to go up against you, he should just do it openly. Instead, he’s like one of those fake innocents. He gets all the perks and still pretends everyone’s forcing him into it. Seriously, it makes me sick to watch,” Garret added.
Marine, on the other hand, had stayed silent throughout.
She’d always found Martin’s behavior odd, but she could never quite label it. She never expected Garret to be so spot–on and ruthless with his words.
‘No wonder he and Daron clicked so well. They were two peas in a pod. Their tongues were so venomous that if they licked themselves, they’d probably drop dead from the poison, Marina thought.
Martin probably wanted that spot all along, even if he pretended otherwise.
Maybe Daron had seen this day coming from the start, which was why he always kept his cool and never showed much emotion about it.
After leaving Zamora Group, they headed over to the Zamora family estate.
At the entrance of the Zamora family estate, they ran into Matthew, who was there to visit Harris.
As Matthew got out of his car and spotted Daron, a hint of displeasure flickered in his eyes.
“Daron, I know you’re upset, but why did you have to say in front of the media that you won’t be working at Zamora Group anymore?” Matthew asked in a low voice.
“What do you think the public will make of that?” he added.
Daron looked at Matthew, his expression cool and distant.
“Since when do I care what outsiders think?” Daron replied.
Matthew’s expression shifted, his voice dropping to a serious tone.
“Daron, when you had your accident, we did what we had to for the future of Zamora Group, so we put Martin in charge,” Matthew said.
“Now that everything’s settled, it’s time to face facts, just like your father did,” he added.
“Everyone knows what you can do. You’ll still have a voice at Zamora Group. It’s really just a change in title, nothing more.” Matthew tried to sound more reassuring, putting on his best convincing face.
Daron looked at him, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
“I wasn’t just venting in front of the media,” Daron said.

“You said it yourself. Everyone knows what I’m capable of. So I figure it’s time I set up my own company and do my own thing,” he added.
“You’ve spent years training Martin. He’s got the chops, so I’m cool with leaving Zamora Group to him. With Martin in charge, I can finally just sit back, do nothing, show up for a couple meetings, and watch the dividends roll in,” Daron said.
Daron owned 25% of Zamora Group’s shares. Harris held another 15%.
If Harris and Daron had both stood against Martin becoming CEO, there’s no way Martin would be sitting in that chair right now.
But if they did oppose him, they’d be burning bridges with Matthew’s branch of the family for good.
The third branch of the Zamora family always played it neutral, and when push came to shove, they’d just abstain from voting.
Neither Daron nor Harris put up a fight, and nobody could tell what they were really planning behind the
scenes.
Seeing Daron so calm and unfazed, Matthew found himself losing his nerve.
