Silas couldn’t get through to Mila, and his phone kept ringing with reporters calling for updates.
He sat on the couch, getting more and more annoyed, and Winnie’s sobbing was only making his headache worse.
Silas kept a cold face and told Winnie to quiet down.
Winnie finally stopped crying, then lifted her head and spoke up.
“Dad, someone is clearly after me,” Winnie said, her voice trembling.
“It’s Marina. She’s trying to get back at me!” Winnie blurted out.
Silas frowned deeply, gave Winnie a frosty glare, then picked up his phone to call someone and find out if anyone was fanning the flames tonight.
Soon, Silas got a response.
There was no paid promotion involved tonight. Everything was just organic traffic.
Silas’s face darkened as he put down his phone, giving Winnie a cold, indifferent look.
Winnie bit her lip, seeing how serious Silas looked, and quickly pulled out her own phone.
“Dad, you have to believe me. It was really her, Winnie insisted.
“Even if it was her, can you prove it?” Silas replied coldly.
“There’s no evidence right now that points to her.
“Do you really think she’d be dumb enough to leave evidence just sitting there for you to find?” Silas fumed.
Winnie froze, her expression awkward. She hung her head after Silas’s scolding.
Seeing this, Linnea hurried over and sat beside Silas, speaking in a gentle tone, “Silas, Winnie’s never dealt with anything like this before, so she’s not sure what to do.”
“Right now, we need to keep this under control. We can’t let the rumors blow up any further. Has Mila picked up the phone yet?” Linnea said softly.
Silas shook his head.
Linnea sighed quietly. “Ever since Mila married into the Clark family, she just isn’t as involved with us as she used to be. She knows the Gill family is in trouble right now. How can we not even reach her?”
As soon as Linnea finished, Silas picked up a call from Gideon.
Gideon, Silas’s younger brother, was really making a name for himself in Vrufield these days.
As soon as Silas answered, Gideon gave him some solid advice.
“Look, no offense, but you’ve spoiled Winnie since she was little. I’ve said it before. If you let her run the Gill family, it’s only a matter of time before things blow up,” Gideon said.

Mila’s way more composed and reliable than Winnie ever was,” he added.

“Mila just called me, and we figured out a plan to deal with this. Right now, I’m still in this together with the Gill family. If things go wrong for you guys, I won’t be able to walk away unscathed either,” Gideon said.
“Silas, you need to think about what’s best for everyone, not just your own personal interests,” Gideon warned.
After hearing all that, Silas had no comeback at all.
“Silas, if you’re dead set on letting Winnie take over the family business, I’ll be the first to stand against it,” Gideon said, his tone firm.
Seeing how things were going. Gideon ended the call abruptly.
Silas put his phone away and went quiet.
Linnea, sitting beside him, had heard everything his brother said.
She took a deep breath and immediately spoke up, “Silas, Gideon doesn’t really know what’s going on. Winnie just fell into someone’s trap. That’s why all this happened.”
Silas kept his face cold and spoke seriously, ‘So someone digs a pit for her, and she just has to jump in? Seriously?”
“Marina’s the same age as her. How come Marina can keep her cool and stay out of trouble, but Winnie always ends up in a mess? Silas said coldly,
“She’d better stay out of Vrufield for a while, Silas added.
At this, Winnie’s face went pale, and she looked up at Silas.
“Dad, where are you sending me?” Winnie asked, her voice trembling.
Silas’s face was stern as he barked out his decision.
“You’re way too impulsive. You need to go out and straighten yourself out. Start at the supermarket on the outskirts and begin with management, Silas said coldly.
Winnic took a deep breath, her heart sinking.
“Being a manager at a supermarket is the toughest job. I’d have to check inventory, run the store, and deal with all kinds of headaches. And the outskirts are a rough and unpleasant place to be.
‘No way! I’m not going,” Winnie protested, her voice trembling with anger.
Silas’s face darkened.
“If you won’t go, then pack your things and get out of the Gill family!” Silas snapped.
“Your uncle’s business is really taking off right now. If you drag him into this mess, the whole family could go down with him,” Silas said sharply.
Seeing Silas so determined, Linnea took a deep breath and quickly spoke up.
“Silas, I don’t mind you reassigning Winnic, but that supermarket on the outskirts is just way too harsh for her.”
“Why not send her down south? It’s better for her health there. Winnie’s never had to rough it before. If the conditions are

too tough, I’m worried she won’t be able to handle it. Just let her manage any chain supermarket in a small southern city” Linnea said, her voice full of worry.
Before Silas could even respond, Winnie was already clinging to Linnea, crying her eyes out.
Seeing Winnie like that, Silas finally softened.
“Alright,” he said, his voice a little less harsh
The conditions down south were way better than out on the outskirts
But for Winnie, it still felt like her whole world was crashing down.
She ran upstairs, sobbing
Linnea watched Winnie’s retreating figure and let out a soft sigh
She then turned her gaze back to Silas and spoke in a gentle voice. “Silas, are you really going to let Mila inherit the Gill family business?”
But Silas didn’t say a word.
Linnea bit her lip and said, “I don’t care who you let inherit, but Mila’s already married into the Clark family. I’m just worried they might end up taking over the Gill family business. It wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened.”
Silas rubbed his brow and said quietly but firmly. “This isn’t your concern.”
Seeing that, Linnea bit her tongue and kept silent.
She shot a glance upstairs, then eventually stood up and made her way up herself.
After Mila wrapped up her call with Gideon, she dialed Silas.
As soon as Silas answered, Mila jumped right in.
‘Dad, I just handled things for Winnie,” Mila said.
The buzz is fading now. I leaked news about a male celebrity getting arrested to cover it up,” she added.
Silas let out a soft sigh at Mila’s words.
When things get tough, you’re always the reliable one,” he said.
‘Mila, you really came through for us,” Silas said.
Mila sounded calm. “Dad, we’re family. You don’t have to thank me for this.”
‘By tomorrow, the buzz should die down. Once we release a statement, it’ll all blow over,” she assured him.
Silas just nodded, his voice low.
“It’s not that I don’t want you to help out with the family business, but now that you’re with the Clarks, we’re worried they’ll swallow up everything we’ve built,” Silas said.
Mila stayed silent for a moment before replying softly. “Dad, Zack and I signed a prenuptial agreement before we got
married.”

Silas was stunned for a moment.
“What?” Silas blurted out, clearly caught off guard.
“Why was I kept in the dark about this? Silas demanded, his voice rising.
Mila sounded a little resigned.
“Grandpa said if I didn’t sign the prenup, he wouldn’t let me marry Zack. I didn’t really have a choice,” Mila said softly.
The Clark family might support the Gill family’s business ventures, but there’s no way they’d ever let Mila get her hands on their money.
“Dad, we all have our guard up. Don’t you think the Clarks are just as careful?” Mila said, her voice steady.
“As long as the Gill family keeps thriving, that’s all that matters,” she added.
Mila’s words hit Silas right in the feels.
The very next day, Winnie was sent off to a small city down south, forced to work her way up from scratch.
And Silas didn’t hesitate to declare Mila as his sole heir.
When Marina caught wind of the announcement, a faint smirk played at her lips.
With Winnie’s pride and attitude, starting at the bottom? She’d probably cause a whole new mess, she thought.
Just then, Daron sidled up to her.
“What’s got you so happy?” Daron asked, a teasing smile on his lips.
Marina put her phone down, grinned, and cupped Daron’s face, giving him a quick kiss.
Just chased away a pesky fly,” she said with a playful smirk.
