Marina snuggled into Daron’s arms and nodded. She hadn’t been getting enough sleep lately because she’d been so busy, so she was feeling a bit drowsy.
She yawned, and Daron, ever attentive, lowered his gaze and pulled her a little closer.
“Tired?” Daron asked softly.
Marina nodded. “Yeah.”
Seeing this, Daron leaned down and effortlessly lifted Marina into his arms.
Marina instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.
Noticing how she nestled her head against his chest, Daron spoke in a low, gentle voice.
‘Let’s head upstairs and get some rest.”
Marina gave a soft “mm” and allowed Daron to carry her upstairs.

Early the next morning, Marina was woken up by the sound of her phone ringing.
She groggily opened her eyes and saw Daron standing by the bed, looking fresh and ready for the day.
She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and pushed herself up with one hand.
Daron picked up his phone and checked the caller ID. It was Garret.
He turned to Marina and saw she was already awake, clearly disturbed by the ringing.
Speaking in a gentle voice, he said, “It’s still early. Try to get some more sleep.”
Marina glanced at the clock, then snuggled back into bed, grateful for the extra rest.
While answering Garret’s call, Daron made sure Marina was tucked in comfortably.
‘Daron, there are some nasty rumors about your wife going around online,” Garret said.
Garret was a total internet junkie. He always seemed to catch something fishy online before anyone else.
Daron’s brows knitted together as he glanced down and saw Marina had already closed her eyes.
Not wanting to disturb her, he quietly slipped out of the bedroom and closed the door behind him.
“Get rid of it, now,” Daron said, his face darkened, and his tone razor–sharp,
Garret said quickly, “Already taken care of. But this time, it doesn’t look like Yara and her gang are behind it.”
“Winnie is totally swamped right now. Mila has managed to get back in their dad’s good graces and is now the heir apparent.
“There was no way she’d have the time or energy for this kind of drama,” Garret guessed.

“Bottom line, there are still people out there who are out to get Marina. I just sent you the pics,” Garret added.
Right after he spoke, he quickly forwarded the photos to Daron’s phone.
Daron kept the call going, tapped open Garret’s chat, and his brows furrowed as he scrolled through the images.
Marina was the type who always kept people at arm’s length.
She hardly ever talked to Henry, so there’s no way she’d let him get close enough to put his arm around her waist.
Whoever snapped this photo just used a sneaky angle to make it look like Marina and Henry were all chummy, but it was totally misleading.
All the gossip online about Marina was basically people saying she had loose morals and was never short of men hanging
around her.
Back when she was with Lavern, there were even rumors flying that she schemed with other men to set him up and get him thrown in jail.
Now with this new photo out, it was just adding fuel to the fire, making it look like all those nasty rumors about her might actually be true.
Daron’s expression was frosty as he scanned through the messages Garret sent.
Garret jumped in, “Daron, I’ve already got people digging into it. We’ll have answers soon.”
‘Make sure you drag out whoever’s behind this,” Daron’s voice was ice–cold.
Let’s see which rat is hiding in the dark,‘ he thought grimly.
‘Alright,” Garret agreed readily.
Daron hung up, slipped his phone into his pocket, and was about to go downstairs when he heard the bedroom door open.
He turned around and saw Marina at the bedroom door.
Marina looked up at Daron, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, her voice gentle as she spoke.
‘Why are you still upstairs? I thought you’d already gone down,” she said.
Daron walked over to her, gave her head a gentle rub, and spoke in a warm, daring voice.
“What made you get up?” he asked softly.
“You didn’t have to get up so soon. You could’ve gotten a bit more sleep,” he said.
Marina shook her head and said, “There’s a meeting at Finley Group today. It’s really not something I can skip. I gotta head
over.”
Daron just nodded quietly.
“I’ll go get ready first,” Marina said softly.
Daron just said “Okay,” then went downstairs for breakfast.
After getting ready, Marina changed into a suit and came out of the walk–in closet. When she went downstairs, she didn’t see

Belinda quickly cleared away the empty dishes and brought out Marina’s breakfast, setting it down in front of her with a warm smile.
“Mrs. Zamora, go ahead and cat,” she said.
Marina nodded, then asked offhandedly, “Did Daron head out already?”
Belinda nodded with a gentle smile. “Yes.”
“He seemed in a rush. Probably something urgent at the company,” she added.
Belinda had noticed how Daron had been coming and going at all hours lately.
“I just don’t understand why Mr. Zamora would step down as CEO of Zamora Group,” she said, shaking her head.
“Starting a new company is so tough. He looks exhausted every single day,” she added.
Marina gave a small smile and said quietly. “It’s true, things are tough. But honestly, everything feels hard right now.”
Belinda nodded.
After finishing breakfast, Marina grabbed her things and left for the office.
As Marina walked through the lobby of Finley Group, she could feel the employees‘ curious stares and hear a few whispers as she passed by.
Her eyes narrowed in confusion, but she kept her thoughts to herself and made her way to the elevator, ignoring the looks as she headed up to her office.
When she reached her office floor, Marina stepped out of the elevator.
She happened to run into the secretary from the CEO’s office.
The secretary went out of her way to greet Marina with a bright smile.
Marína was so caught up in her own thoughts that she barely registered the greeting.
She had her hand on the doorknob, about to step inside, when the secretary spoke up, her voice full of reassurance.
“Ms. Finley, we all know you’re not that kind of person, so don’t let all that online hate get you down,” she said.
Marina paused, a look of confusion flashing in her eyes as she immediately glanced up at the secretary. What is she talking
about?‘ she wondered.
“What are you talking about?” she asked.
The secretary saw the look of confusion on Marina’s face and realized she was totally in the dark about what went down last night.
She gave an awkward smile, and under Marina’s intense gaze, finally blurted it out.
“Last night, some pretty nasty rumors about you started spreading online. They made it sound super believable, like they
had all the details,” she said.
