The certainty in his voice made my chest tighten. Before I could respond, the car pulled up to Hazel’s apartment
building.

With a final wave, she stepped out of the car, blowing a kiss before disappearing into her building.
Alexander turned to me as the car pulled away. “What was that about?”

“That whispered exchange. What did she say to you?”
I smoothed my dress. “Nothing important.”
“Madison.” His voice dropped an octave. “You’re blushing.”
“It’s warm in here,” I deflected.
“The temperature is perfectly regulated.” His eyes narrowed slightly. “Was she giving you advice about me?”
I bit my lip, “She may have made some… assumptions about our plans for the rest of the evening.”
“Interesting.” He leaned closer, his breath warm against my ear. “And what exactly did she assume?”
“That we wouldn’t be going straight home,” I admitted.
“And will we?” His hand found my knee again.
“I told her I was going straight home. Mom’s waiting up.”
Alexander checked his watch. “It’s nearly midnight. I doubt your mother is still awake.”
“She’s a night owl,” I countered.
“So am I.” His fingers traced a path up my thigh. “And I find myself not quite ready to end the evening.”

My breath caught. “What did you have in mind?”
“I think you know exactly what I have in mind, Maddie.” The use of the nickname sent a jolt through me.
My breath hitched as his fingers trailed higher up my thigh, his touch leaving fire in its wake. “We’re still in the car,” I whispered, though I made no move to stop him.
“And?” His eyes darkened with desire. “The partition is up.”
Before I could respond, he leaned in and captured my lips with his. The kiss was hungry, demanding, as if he’d been waiting all evening for this moment. His hand slid around my waist, pulling me closer while his other hand moved to my breast, squeezing it through the thin fabric of my dress.
I gasped against his mouth as his thumb brushed over my nipple, causing it to harden instantly.
“John,” Alexander called out, pressing the intercom button without breaking eye contact with me. “Take us to my penthouse.”
“Yes, sir,” came the muffled reply before the partition went dark again.

“Is that why you kept touching me under the table?” I asked, my voice breathy as his lips moved to my neck.
“You know exactly what you do to me,” he growled, nipping at my pulse point. “The way you ate that dessert… Christ, Madison.”
His hand slipped under the hem of my dress, fingers tracing patterns on my inner thigh. “Tell me you want this.
