I glanced at the clock on my computer: 6:35 PM. The office had emptied out an hour ago, but I was still finalizing the construction timeline for the project. My phone buzzed with a text from Alexander.
Alexander: My office. Now.
My stomach fluttered. That commanding tone, even in text form, did things to me I couldn’t explain. I saved my work, smoothed my skirt, and headed to his office.
I knocked once before entering. Alexander was standing by the window, his broad shoulders outlined against the New York skyline. He turned, his eyes immediately darkening as they swept over me.
“Ms. Harper,” he said, voice low. “Working late again?”
“Just finishing the timeline for the project, Mr. Knight.” I closed the door behind me, feeling that familiar tension crackling between us.

“What time?”
“Eight.” He stepped back, professional mask sliding back into place. “Don’t be late.”
“I’ll need to go home first.”
“Of course.” He returned to his desk. “I’ll see you at eight, Madison.”
I nodded and turned to leave.
“And Madison?” His voice stopped me at the door. “Wear something comfortable.”
At home, I showered quickly, letting the hot water wash away the day’s stress. My mind kept drifting to Alexander, to his hands and mouth, and the way he looked at me like I was something to be devoured.
I blow–dried my hair, applied light makeup, and slipped into a casual burgundy dress that hugged my curves without looking like I was trying too hard. And yes, I put on the black heels he liked so much.
Mom was having dinner with her friend, so I left her a note explaining I’d be with Alexander tonight. I grabbed my purse and called a cab.
The ride to Alexander’s building was quick. My heart raced as the elevator ascended to his penthouse. When the doors opened, I stepped into his foyer and found him waiting, dressed in dark jeans and a black Henley with the sleeves pushed up to reveal his forearms.
“Right on time,” he said, eyes traveling slowly over my body. “Perfect.”

He handed me a cutting board and some garlic. “You can start with this.”
We worked side by side, Alexander expertly cracking eggs into a bowl while I minced garlic and chopped parsley. The domesticity of it felt strangely intimate, more so than some of our more sexual encounters.
“You’re good at this,” I observed, watching him grate Parmesan with practiced ease.
“I told you, I have many talents.” He moved behind me, pressing against my back as he reached for the pepper mill. His lips brushed my ear. “Some more pleasurable than others.”
His phone buzzed on the counter. I glanced at it reflexively as Katherine’s name flashed on the screen. Alexander saw it too, but made no move to answer. He simply turned the phone face down and continued grating cheese.

“Water’s boiling,” Alexander said, his hand sliding around my waist. “Ready for the pasta?”
