Chapter 75
Madison
He crossed the marble floor with that predatory grace that quickened my pulse. Several people tried to catch his attention, but he moved past them like they were invisible. His focus was entirely on me, and the intensity of his gaze made my skin tingle.
“Enjoying the party, Miss Harper?” His voice carried that hint of amusement that told me he knew exactly what I’d been thinking about.
“Yes, Mr. Knight. The view has been particularly entertaining.”
His eyes darkened at my choice of words. “Has it now?”
“Mmhmm.” I gestured vaguely toward where Abigail stood, fuming by the bar. “Some people seem to be having trouble reading
the room.”
He leaned against the column beside me, close enough that his cologne teased my senses but not close enough to touch. ” Jealousy looks good on you.”
“I wasn’t jealous.” The lie slipped out automatically.
“No?” His lips curved into that dangerous smile that promised wicked things. “So you weren’t imagining pushing her into the fountain outside?”
“Of course not.” I paused. “The pool would be much more effective. Chlorine is hell on designer dresses.”
His quiet laugh sent shivers down my spine. “Such violent thoughts from my usually sweet assistant.”
I arched an eyebrow at him. “Sweet? After what we did last night?”
The heat that flared in his eyes made me grateful for the column supporting my suddenly weak knees. “Careful, Miss Harper. Keep talking like that, and we might need to find a private corner to discuss your behavior.”
My core clenched at the promise in his voice. “We’re at a business event, Mr. Knight.”
“That hasn’t stopped us before.”
Images of our encounter in his office last week flashed through my mind. My cheeks flushed hotter.
“Besides,” his voice dropped to a tone that made me want to devour him. “Watching you get jealous makes me want to remind you exactly who you belong to this year.”
His words sent a shiver down my spine. The way he looked at me – like a predator sizing up his next meal – made my knees
weak.
“I don’t need reminding.” I kept my voice low, mindful of the other guests mingling nearby.
“No?” He shifted closer, not touching but close enough that the heat from his body radiated against my bare shoulder. “Your eyes tell a different story. The way you’ve been watching me all evening, practically undressing me with those innocent looks.”
“I was merely observing the room. It’s a lovely party.”
“Is that why you’ve been fidgeting for the past hour? Pressing those pretty thighs together every time I glance your way?”
My breath caught. “You’re imagining things.”
“Am I?” His eyes dropped to where my fingers gripped the champagne glass. “I can read every thought crossing your mind. How you wish we were alone right now. How much do you want my hands on you.”

God, he wasn’t wrong. The memory of last night – his mouth on my neck, his hands pinning mine above my head – made heat pool between my legs.
“The things I could do to you right now.” His voice dropped even lower. “That storage closet by the coat check looks promising.”
“We’re at a business event,” I reminded him, though my body screamed to take him up on the offer.
“Hasn’t stopped us before. Remember last week in my office?”
How could I forget? The way he’d bent me over his desk, one hand covering my mouth to muffle my cries while he…
“Your cheeks are flushing, Miss Harper. Such delicious thoughts must be running through that pretty head of yours.”
I cleared my throat. “I was thinking about work.”
“Liar.” His smirk widened. “But I’ll let you keep your little fantasy private. For now.”
Across the room, Abigail shot us another venomous look. I couldn’t help but feel a surge of satisfaction. Let her watch. She might have that red dress and perfect hair, but she didn’t have him.
“There’s that jealous look again,” he murmured. “Makes me want to drag you somewhere private and remind you how thoroughly I can make you scream my name.”
My core clenched at his words. “Mr. Knight…”
“Yes?” His eyes glittered with wicked promise. “Something you need, Miss Harper?”
I met his heated gaze, fighting to keep my voice steady. “You have a conference call with Japan in an hour.”
His predatory smile widened. “No, I don’t. I rescheduled it for tomorrow evening.”
“Oh.” Heat crept up my neck. “I forgot about that change.”
“Forgetting your duties already? Am I that distracting?”
“Not like that.”
“No?” He leaned closer, his cologne teasing my senses. “Then what is it?”
The way his voice dropped an octave made me want to drag him into that storage closet he’d mentioned earlier. To hell with propriety and this fancy party. I opened my mouth to respond, but the movement behind him caught my attention.
“Mr. Knight!” A man in an expensive suit approached, waving a hand to catch Alexander’s attention. “A moment of your time?”
Alexander’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. I might have missed it if I hadn’t spent so many hours studying his expressions. The flash of frustration in his eyes sent a thrill through me – knowing he was as affected by our interrupted
moment as I was.
He straightened, adjusting his cufflinks in the way he did when switching to business mode. The transformation from seductive predator to powerful CEO happened instantly, but when he glanced back at me, the heat in his eyes promised this conversation
wasn’t over.
“We’ll continue this discussion later, Miss Harper.”
Without waiting for my response, he turned to join the businessman, leaving me breathless and aching against my column.
I watched Alexander disappear into the crowd, my body still tingling from our heated exchange. The businessman who’d interrupted us launched into what looked like an enthusiastic pitch, complete with dramatic hand gestures. Poor guy had no idea Alexander’s thoughts were elsewhere if that scorching look he’d thrown me before walking away was any indication.

The party dragged on for another two hours. I kept myself occupied by observing the wealthy real estate moguls congratulating each other on their latest acquisitions. The amount of money being casually discussed could fund several small countries.
When we finally made it back to the suite, I kicked off my heels with a groan of relief. My feet were killing me after hours of standing around watching wealthy men pat each other on the back.
“Tired already?” He shrugged off his suit jacket, laying it across a chair with practiced ease.
“These shoes weren’t made for standing around all evening.” I rubbed my aching arch, trying to ignore how his presence seemed to fill the entire room.
“No?” He loosened his tie, those dark eyes following my movements. “I seem to recall you handling them quite well when you were on your knees last night.”
Heat flooded my cheeks. “That was different.”
He stalked toward me with that predatory grace that made my pulse race. “Did you think I forgot about our little conversation from earlier?”
“Which conversation would that be?” I tried for innocence, but the way his eyes darkened told me he wasn’t buying it.
“The one about you forgetting to update my schedule.” His fingers traced along my bare shoulder, leaving goosebumps in their wake. “That’s not like you. You’re usually so thorough.”
“I handle my work perfectly well.” I lifted my chin, meeting his heated gaze. “One minor oversight doesn’t change that.”
“One oversight can cascade into chaos.”
“I’ll be more careful with your schedule from now on.” I watched as he settled onto the leather couch, spreading his arms across the back like it was a throne.
“Will you now?” He patted his thigh, a clear invitation. “How do you plan to make up for tonight’s oversight?”
My body responded to his gesture before my brain could catch up. The space between us crackled with electricity as I crossed the room, the emerald dress whispering against my thighs.
“I’m sure I can think of something.” I moved to sit beside him, but his hand caught my wrist.
“No.” His commanding tone sent heat rushing between my legs. “Here.” He tugged me onto his lap, positioning me so I
straddled his thighs.
I felt the firmness of his erection pressing against my core through the fabric of our clothes, and it took all my willpower not to grind down on him right then and there. His hands gripped my ass hard, squeezing with a possessive intensity that made me
gasp.
“You think you can get away with minor oversights?”
Before I could respond, his hand came down hard on my ass. The sharp sting made me yelp, but the rush of heat between my legs told a different story.
“Fuck, Mr. Knight,” I breathed, feeling my pussy throb against him.
“You deserve punishment for that mistake.” He spanked me again, harder this time, making me squirm in his lap. “Don’t you agree?”
I bit my lip, feeling the delicious ache spread from where his hand had connected. “Yes,” I managed to get out.
“Good.” He spanked me once more before gripping my hair and pulling my face close to his. “Apologize for your mistake.”
“I’m sorry,” I said quickly, feeling the words tumble out in a rush.

“Not good enough.” He yanked me closer until our lips were almost touching. “Tell me clearly and accept your punishment.”
“I’m sorry for forgetting to update your schedule,” I said, forcing myself to hold his gaze. “I deserve whatever punishment you see fit.”
His eyes darkened with satisfaction. “That’s more like it.”
