Chapter 695
It was still morning, so most bars hadn’t opened yet. (1)
Matthias was still worrying about where to take Celeste for a drink when she received two messages from Zachary. 1
Ten minutes later, Celeste headed to the military base instead of heading to a bar.
Every time she went to the base, she ended up working herself to the bone. This time was no exception.
The very day she arrived, she pulled an all–nighter. It wasn’t until the following evening that things finally slowed down.
It was past eight at night, but she hadn’t had dinner yet.
Having just left the data room, she was on her way to the cafeteria when she spotted a tall figure standing in the corridor outside. Their eyes met. 2
Celeste paused slightly.
Caleb, however, walked straight to her.
“I heard you arrived yesterday, but I’ve been tied up with missions these past few days. Just finished not long ago.”
“…Mm, you’ve worked hard.”
“Want to grab a meal together?”
It was obvious he had been waiting for her, so she could only agree.
They chatted casually as they walked to the cafeteria.
During the meal, they talked about their respective work. When one topic ended, Celeste looked up and noticed Caleb had stopped eating and was watching her thoughtfully.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Bad mood?”
Celeste froze for a moment.
These past two days, she’d been so busy she hadn’t had time to think. The heaviness in her chest had also been dulled by work. She thought she was doing fine since she hadn’t dwelled on anything.
“Is it that obvious?”
“Not very. But I can tell,” he said. (5)
Back when he used to see her at the base, no matter what difficulties she encountered at work, her eyes were always filled with drive and anticipation, even when she was exhausted.

He could tell that she genuinely loved the work she did in the base, no matter how tired she was. But now, although her focus was still on work, there was a faint trace of worry lingering in her eyes.
Most people probably wouldn’t notice it.
He put down his spoon and looked at her again. “Is it about him?”
Celeste knew who he meant. She didn’t stop eating and replied calmly, “You could say that.”
“What happened?”
He knew she and her husband hadn’t officially divorced yet. In the past, whenever he brought up her husband or the divorce, she rarely showed much reaction. So why did this time… 1
Celeste shook her head, not wanting to say more.
Seeing that, Caleb didn’t press further and changed the subject. “When are you leaving the base?”
“Probably in the next couple of days.”
“Alright.”
Over the next two days, Caleb waited by the entrance every day to go to the cafeteria with her.
Zachary happened to run into them twice. He didn’t react much the first time. But the second time he saw Caleb waiting for Celeste again, he stopped and swept his gaze over the two of them.
His expression was calm and unreadable, but Celeste somehow felt like he had misunderstood the situation. So, she couldn’t help explaining, “Prof, we’re not…”
“Okay.” 1
Before she could finish, Zachary acknowledged her with a brief response and turned to leave. 2
Celeste left the base on the afternoon of the fourth day.
She saw Caleb at the exit when she was leaving, making her freeze for a moment.
The car that was sending her off came to a stop.
Caleb got in as well, taking a seat beside her with a smile. “It just so happens that I’m on leave today. I’ll go with you.” 12
Celeste couldn’t say anything.
