Chapter 696
The car slowly drove away from the base.
They chatted along the way. When the car entered the city, Caleb asked, “Do you want to grab a meal together?”
“I can’t. I want to go home and have dinner with my family,” Celeste refused as firmly as ever. 1
It was an answer he had expected. Caleb understood where to draw the line and didn’t insist. 4
He got out of the car first. Only then did Celeste take her phone out of her bag and switch it on.
There were quite a lot of missed calls, but most of them were from Jordyn.
She had been in such a rush to the base while handling the tasks Zachary assigned to her that she didn’t tell Jordyn she was going on a “business trip“.
However, Jordyn would definitely contact the Rodriguez family to ask about her if she couldn’t reach her. So, Celeste wasn’t worried about that.
However, seeing all the missed calls, she sent Jordyn a message to let her know she was done with
work.
The message had just been sent, and when Celeste was about to put her phone down, Jordyn immediately called back.
“Mom, you’re finally back!”
Celeste hummed a response.
“Mom, I missed you so much! Have you eaten? Can we go out for dinner?”
But Celeste refused. “I just got back. I want to go home and have dinner with Granny and the family. We’ll go out another time.”
Jordyn replied, “Then I’ll go over to Granny’s for dinner too!” 1
Celeste said, “Alright. Come over then.”
When the Rodriguez family heard that she was back, they prepared a few extra dishes. However, upon hearing that Jordyn would also be joining them for dinner, Betty and Adeline paused for a moment. 1
Jordyn was still a child. They didn’t really blame her for being close to Wynn. Instead, they felt the responsibility lay with Trevor. 2
After all, Jordyn’s fondness for Wynn had been influenced by him.
So, they inevitably had some lingering feelings toward Jordyn when emotions ran high, and they felt hurt.
But after a few days, their mood had eased. So, they were still happy to hear that she was coming over.

When Jordyn saw Celeste, she was naturally overjoyed. That night, she stayed over at the Rodriguez
residence.
The next day, Celeste returned to YodaVision after sending Jordyn to school.
She saw Kieran as soon as she arrived.
He had called her when she was at the base. But Celeste figured that if Kieran had needed anything, he could’ve asked Matthias when he couldn’t reach her. So she hadn’t returned his calls.
Kieran paused when he saw her. “You’re back.”
Not knowing what Matthias had told him, Celeste simply nodded and hummed a response.
His gaze then fell on her face. “Didn’t sleep well these past few days? You look like you’ve lost weight.”
“Had a lot to deal with,” Celeste replied.
Kieran just nodded.
Matthias had said she had taken leave because she had something to handle.
Kieran didn’t know what exactly she had been busy with. But he had wanted to tell her that if she ran into any trouble, she could come to him for help.
But he also knew that if Celeste really encountered something, Matthias would be able to help her. She
didn’t need him. 1
Since Matthias hadn’t said much and had told him not to disturb her too much, he didn’t ask further.
After Celeste returned to her office, Kieran went to the pantry and made a cup of coffee for her. Then he brought it to her.
“Thank you.”
When Matthias heard she was back, he came over as well.
Seeing Kieran’s attentive, almost doting manner toward Celeste, he stood at the doorway with a raised eyebrow and cleared his throat lightly. (6)
