Chapter 506

After the family banquet, Marina started taking care of the arrangements that came next.

Zara was sitting beside Martin, quietly listening as Matthew and Harris chatted with the rest of the family.

She kept quiet the whole time, trying not to draw any attention to herself.

But when Matthew brought up some important family matters, he shot her a look and said in a deep voice, “Is Marina out back working by herself right now? Zara, go help her. Learning a few things won’t hurt you in the long run.”

Zara didn’t get up right away. Instead, she glanced at Martin.

Martin smiled, released his arm from around her, and said softly, “Go on. Stick close to Marina and learn from her. Someday, you’ll be the one handling the family affairs.”

Zara bit her lower lip and shot a glance at Matthew.

Matthew didn’t object to Martin’s words at all. He just turned away and kept chatting with Harris.

t was as if he was silently agreeing with Martin.

Zara quietly exhaled, and in that moment, a new idea started to form in her mind.

Marrying Daron was out of the question now.

But if she could end up with Martin instead, maybe that wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Martin was running the Zamora family now. If she became his wife and helped him stand against Daron, she’d finally earn he respect she deserved.

Besides, Martin had genuinely been good to her lately.

He never pressured her into a relationship, and even bought her a luxury apartment near the Zamora Group.

When Zara received the deed to the apartment from Martin, she thought he might try to force her into something.

But to her surprise, Martin never moved in or tried to live with her.

Sometimes he’d say things that could be easily misunderstood, but he never crossed the line.

Take today, for example.

Martin put on a show for everyone, acting like they were already together

But honestly, when it was just the two of them, they hadn’t even held hands.

Zara bit her lip, her mind already made up about what to do next

As Zars stood up from the couch, she cast a sidelong glance at Daron. He was locked in a chess match with Edmund

Matthew was the only one still deep in conversation with Harris.

Zara saw that even after Martin implied they were practically a couple, Daron didn’t react at all. She quietly bit her lip, feeling a mix of disappointment and resolve, then walked toward the backyard.

Marina had everything sorted out and was just about to head to the backyard when she saw Zara coming her way.

Zara approached with a gentle smile on her face and greeted Marina first. “Marina, is everything all set?”

Marina nodded and walked right past Zara, not bothering to say a single word.

She honestly had nothing to say to Zara.

Seeing that Marina was still acting so cold toward her, Zara couldn’t help but take a deep breath before speaking seriously, ‘Marina, everything that happened before was my mom’s fault. She’s out of the country now, and she won’t be messing with you and Daron’s life again.”

Marina didn’t say a word and just kept walking.

Zara hurried after her.

Marina, I really do want us to get along. That whole thing with the diary happened back when I was young and didn’t know iny better. I’ve moved on from that ages ago.

You’ve been through that phase too, so you probably understand how I felt.

I heard you chose to break off your engagement with Daron just to be with Lavern, right? So you get what it’s like to be young and not know any better.”

Marina stopped in her tracks and turned to face Zara.

Zara was still smiling, looking all gentle and sweet.

If I said something wrong just now, I hope you won’t hold it against me. I was just giving an example, not trying to get inder your skin,” Zara said softly.

Martin and Grandpa asked me to come help you in the backyard, so I could learn something useful from you.

Marina, I really do want us to get along. Since we might end up as sisters-in-law someday, can we just let go of the past and nove forward?”

Marina glanced at Zara’s cool, collected expression and let out a faint, mocking smile.

Zara, I gotta hand it to you. You really know how to play the game. You’re good at switching gears when you

need to,”

‘But just so you know, there’s nothing good between us. All we’ve got is grudges, not kindness.” With that, Marina turned and

walked toward the front hall.

Zara caught up to Marina, about to say something more, when Daron came over from the front hall.

His eyes went straight to Marina, and he walked right up to her, reaching out and taking her hand.

Then, looking past Marina, he shot Zara a look, his eyes sharp, sending a clear warning.

Zara just stood there, stunned for a moment, not daring to move.

Daron reached out and took Marina’s hand, asking with concern.

“You alright?” he asked.

Marina shook her head. “I’m fine.”

Daron nodded, took Marina’s hand in his, and walked with her toward the front hall.

Martin, still lounging on the couch, saw Daron walk in with Marina and couldn’t resist teasing them. “Daron, you and Marina are really something. She was just out back handling a few things, and you couldn’t wait to go fetch her.

“Seriously, the rest of us can only envy you.”

As he spoke, Martin glanced at Zara, who had just walked in behind them. A faint smile played at his lips as he waved her

over.

‘Zara, come here,” he called out.

Zara hurried over to Martin.

As soon as she reached him, Martin gently pulled her to sit beside him.

Harris glanced at them, then said to Matthew in a neutral tone, “I never realized Martin had such intentions toward Zara. When Zara was living with us before, I hardly ever saw the two of them have anything to do with each other.”

Matthew just shook his head, replying, “Honestly, I don’t really know.”

These days, young people have their own minds about these things. I’ve never been one to meddle in their business.”

Harris nodded in agreement.

You’re right,” he said. “You’re much wiser about these things than I am.”

Martin’s just a bit younger than Daron, so it’s about time he made things official and settled down,” Harris remarked.

With how well Martin and Zara are getting along, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re engaged and married before we know it.”

Matthew kept insisting he didn’t want to meddle in Martin’s love life, but when he saw Harris start shipping Martin and Zara ogether, he couldn’t help but frown.

Seeing Harris basically tie Zara and Martin together as a couple, Matthew inmediately furrowed his brows.

‘Martin only just took over the Zamora Group,” Matthew said seriously. “Let’s put the wedding plans on hold for now and let him focus on getting the job done first.”

Harris chuckled and said, “You know what they say. Start a family first, build your career later. We shouldn’t let work get in the way of Martin’s big life event.”

Matthew was left speechless by Harris’s words. He just forced a smile that didn’t reach his eyes and didn’t say another word.

He knew Harris was doing it on purpose.

But he wasn’t about to take the bait.

There was no way he’d ever let a woman like Zara, with her shady background, marry his grandson.
