Chapter 162

Chapter 162

“You’re not going to change my mind about this, Sophia. You were the target of this attack. The only people that pose a threat to you directly are the wolves we now own. The only other options are Zara and Elize.

“And the driver,” I remind him. His stops pacing and turns around to look at me. “He was a wolf. I saw him when they were bringing my things in. I figured you guys cleared him to be there. He was driving a black on black lifted Raptor. It was pretty

cool.”

“Wait,” the King sits up in the chair beside me.

He hasn’t left my side since he and Ragnar were arguing before I passed out. I know Ragnar left because he’s all clean and shiny again. I feel like someone who was in the middle of an attempted murder via bomb. Everything hurts. My head has its only pulse and I can hear it in my ears one slow beat at a time. There’s also a loud beep sound that is refusing to go away. My vision is a little blurry and my burn marks are itchy. Surprisingly, that’s the most annoying part.

“That was a long pause,” I hear myself say and turn my head enough to see the King rubbing his temples.

“You saw a wolf delivering your things and you didn’t think to question it?” he sneers.

“My grandmother sent my things over. Why would I?” I ask him.

“She has a point,” I hear my grandmother say. I look around trying to adjust my eyes to the bright lights. “Right here, my love,” she takes my hand. “Turn the lights off. She has a head injury.”

“I have a head injury?” I ask. “How bad is it?”

“Your skull cracked,” I hear Aimee answer.

“Blue aconite and an iron shot,” I shut my eyes.

“Dammit,” she says. I open my eyes to see her pull the door open and leave.

“How do you do that?” the King asks. “You weren’t able to take wolfsbane before.”

“No, but I have treated many kids with severe head injuries. Pups dive head first into life,” I smile.

“Yes, a fucking black on black Raptor, Santi,” I hear Ragnar growl lowly.

“IKYADB3,” I recite. He looks over at me.

“Is that the license plate?” my grandmother asks.

“Yes, it stands for I know you’re a dumb bitch. Rejected wolves in the city have a support group. It’s where Alpha Romano got his best warriors from. Rage is a weapon. That’s what they call it.”

“And you didn’t think it was weird?” the King asks again.

“You guys own them. Why would I? I mean now, I’m definitely going to be questioning things a lot more, but come on. My grandma sent them.”

“The more she says that, the more I feel like it’s an accusation,” she grins.

“I know don’t want to believe that Kaylee would set you up like this, but there was no one else who knew your things were being transferred,” Ragnar insists.

“Have Ana question that one guy,” I shrug. “I don’t believe she has anything to do with this. Maybe her family, but not Kay herself. You’re going to have to get over her punching me. I got her back. And I think Ivar gets to punch you after this

because you are accusing his mate for no reason.”

“You can’t be on my side and theirs at the same time,” he huffs sitting by my legs. He reaches under my blanket to wrap his hand around my ankle.

“There are no sides. They’re with us. Kaylee just needs some time to see the truth. The packland’s conditioning is absolute. It’s like trying to tell you that the color of my blanket is green.”

“It’s blue,” they all say in unison.

“Yeah, but she’s spent her entire life knowing it’s green,” I yawn and it’s a huge mistake. A sharp pain shoots through my eyes.

“I got it,” Aimee storms in. “I don’t know why I didn’t think of this.”

She prepares the syringe and begins to inject it through the IV. My grandmother helps her lift the blanket when she gives me the iron shot. I groan because I know it’s going to hurt for a while. I turn enough to lay on my side, but not press the wound on my head against the pillow. The King is looking down at me with a neutral expression.

“Hi,” I greet him making him smile. “Are you still being crazy?”

“No,” he smirks and leans forward to place his hand over mine. “Ize for what I said. Thank you for not letting me get away with it. I wasn’t thinking straight.”

“It’s okay. I was really scared too,” I tighten my hold on his hand. “How is Hel?”

His smile falters and he pulls away to sit back. He lets out a heavy sigh and shrugs. I give him a questioningly look and I know the others are doing the same. He was so worried about her and now he just shrugs.

The child isn’t mine,” he says quietly. I look back at Aimee who pretends to zip her lips shut.

Ragnar and my grandmother are both left stunned. My grandmother’s expression is probably the same one I had the first

time he told me. I genuinely believed he was going to tell her the moment her new doctor friend arrived in the city.

“The only time we were ever intimate was when I marked her, We were never compatible. I gave her permission to move on. I don’t want either of you to do anything about this. Do you understand me? I’ll tell Ivar and if she wants to stay in the city with him, let her.”

My grandmother stares at him for a moment before she walks out. I rub my temples in the same manner he was earlier and look over at Ragnar. He’s not staring at him, he’s just looking down at the floor. When he finally recovers he steps up to his father and embraces him.

“I’ll be back, Soph,” he says coming over to me. He kisses the top of my head gently. “Get back in the bed and stay there. Aimee will inform me when you’re allowed to be up and moving again. No one else. Do you understand?”

“Yes, sir,” I nod. He steps back and waits for me to get back into the bed. He covers me and goes to leave. He takes a deep breath and looks over at his father one last time before he leaves.

“This family is just as crazy as mine,” Aimee sighs. “You heard him, your majesty. Only I have a say in your recovery. I think you need some more rest. Your eyes are still bloodshot.”
