On the other side, in a private room at the bar, Zack was slouched on the couch with a few of his buddies.

Since he walked in, Zack had just been sulking with his drink, barely saying a word.

There was a bandage on his forehead, and he looked especially down.

A couple of his friends also did business with the Finley family, and they’d gotten invitations from Elnora earlier today.

Anyone who knew about Zack and Elnora’s history together could easily guess why Zack was like this tonight.

One of his friends said, “Zack, man, don’t let this get to you. Ms. Finley and Mr. Campbell? That’s just a marriage of convenience, nothing real going on.,”

“Plus, I heard from some buddies in Port City that Mr. Campbell still has an ex he’s been with for years.

“He’s still messing around with his ex. No way Ms. Finley will stand for that.

“Honestly, they’ll probably split up soon anyway.”

Zack listened to his friends trying to cheer him up, then downed his drink in one go.

Seeing this, his friend took his glass away with a grin.

“Honestly, this might be for the best. Once Ms. Finley and Mr. Campbell split up, and things fall apart between you and Mila too, you and Ms. Finley will both treasure what you had even more,” he said.

“Women are all about their feelings, man. If Ms. Finley finds out you’re still waiting for her, she’ll run right back into your arms,” he added.

Zack listened to his friends, and a spark of hope flickered in his eyes.

“You know, you’ve got a point,” he said.

His buddy grinned and said, “Of course I do.

“But Zack, right now, the most important thing is to protect your assets. As long as you’ve got money and power, what woman wouldn’t be yours? Even Ms. Finley wouldn’t stand a chance against you. She’d end up right at your feet.”

Zack nodded, and the heaviness he’d been feeling all day finally eased up a bit.

At the Finley residence, after dinner, Elnora headed upstairs.

Albert called her to discuss wedding plans, and Elnora listened in silence the entire time.

Chapter 537

Before she knew it, she’d been on the phone with Albert for over an hour.

After hanging up, Elnora was about to head upstairs to freshen up.

Just then, her phone rang again.

She glanced at the screen. It was Zack calling.

Even after they broke up, Elnora never blocked Zack’s number.

Honestly, they’d never really had a messy breakup or cut ties for good.

They just drifted apart, no drama, no hard feelings.

She glanced at Zack’s name on the screen and swiped to decline the call.

Zack kept calling, but Elnora ignored him and headed straight for the bathroom to wash up.

When she came out of the bathroom, her phone rang again. This time, it wasn’t Zack, but a mutual acquaintance of theirs, someone who was still doing business with the Finley Group.

It was Nipsy Moulton.

Elnora picked up and put the phone to her ear.

“Mr. Moulton,” she said.

“Is there something you need?”

Nipsy’s voice sounded a bit flattering and polite.

“Ms. Finley, are you busy right now?” he asked.

Elnora replied, “No, I’m not.”

Nipsy gave an awkward chuckle before continuing.

“Here’s the thing, Ms. Finley. Zack got drunk and kept insisting he had to see you. We couldn’t really do anything about it, so we brought him to your doorstep,” he said.

“Do you want to come out and see him?” he asked.

“Mr. Moulton, my husband and I have already gone to bed,” Elnora replied, her voice flat and emotionless as she turned him down.

There was a brief silence on the other end, then Zack’s voice came through the phone.

“Elnora, don’t lie to me. Albert isn’t even in Vrufield,” he said.

“I’m right outside your door. Just come out and talk to me, please. I’ve got a lot I need to say, and then I’ll leave.” he pleaded.

Elnora furrowed her brows, her tone steady and cold.

“Zack, haven’t we already talked everything out ages ago?” she said.

Zack said, “No, Elnora, that wasn’t how I really felt. The only person I’ve ever wanted to marry is you.

“Don’t marry Albert. Just wait for me. I’ll divorce Mila soon…”

Elnora furrowed her brows, hanging up on Zack mid-sentence.

Seeing the call end, Zack dialed her number again right away.

But Elnora just ignored his call, letting it ring out.

Frustrated, Zack hurled his phone to the floor in anger.

Nipsy just stared at his phone lying quietly on the floor, completely dumbfounded.

He was speechless.

‘Honestly, his phone hadn’t done anything to deserve this,’ Nipsy couldn’t help but think.

While Nipsy was still speechless, Zack suddenly stormed up to the Finley family’s front door and crashed into it with a huge bang.

Even though the bedrooms were some distance away from the front entrance, in the quiet of the night, that thunderous noise was enough to jolt everyone awake.

Especially Marina Finley. She had barely drifted off when the loud crash jolted her awake.

She shuddered, jerking upright in bed, startled out of her sleep.

“What’s going on?” she asked, still shaken, turning to Daron.

Marina stared at Daron, wide-eyed and confused.

Daron wrapped his arms around Marina, gently stroking her back as he spoke in a soft, reassuring voice.

“Just keep sleeping. I’ll go see what’s going on,” he said.

Marina nodded, still a little shaken. “Okay.”

Daron got out of bed, but Marina was too worried to stay put and followed him out.

Just as they stepped out of their bedroom, Elnora opened her door as well.

Marina immediately spoke up.

“Elnora, did you hear that noise just now?” she asked.

Elnora nodded, pressing her fingers to her brow, her voice steady and serious as she spoke.

…

“Zack’s drunk, and now he’s at our door, totally losing it,” she said.

Daron’s brows furrowed at the news.

Gauri hurried upstairs and said, “Ms. Elnora, security just called. The Clark heir is outside, going crazy. He’s banging and kicking the door like a madman.”

Elnora’s expression hardened, her voice icy as she said, “I’ll take care of it.”

She made for the stairs, ready to head down.

Just then, Daron cut in, his tone firm and commanding.

“Stay here and keep an eye on Marina. I’ll handle this,” he said.

Zack was wasted. If he saw Elnora, God knew what kind of mess he’d make.

No matter what, if Elnora and Zack’s history came to light at a time like this, it’d stir up a storm.

People would be talking non-stop.

After all, Albert was already a regular on Port City’s front pages.

Their wedding was already under the spotlight, and if you throw Zack into the mix, the Port City gossip rags, who live for messy love triangles, would totally lose it.

Marina walked over to Elnora, looped her arm through hers, and said, “Elnora, just let Daron take care of it.”

Daron and Zack knew each other and were on good terms. Zack would probably keep himself in check with Daron around.

Elnora nodded and finally gave Daron a grateful nod. “Thanks for handling this.”

“Really appreciate it,” Elnora said.

Daron gave a slight nod and headed downstairs.

Gauri trailed after Daron toward the front door.

Right as Zack was about to kick the door, it opened from inside.

Zack tensed up for a second when a man stepped out of the shadows, but as soon as he saw it was Daron, he relaxed and let out a breath.

He really thought Albert was at the Finley place.

He thought Elnora had actually let Albert crash at her place.
