Chapter 564

Albert walked into Elnora’s room.

The dim light inside made him instinctively frown.

He flipped the switch and turned on the lights.

Elnora lay quietly on her side in bed, barely moving.

Albert thought she was asleep and was about to leave, but then he heard that her breathing didn’t sound right.

He stopped, walked over, circled the foot of the bed, and came to stand right by her side.

Elnora’s face flushed an unnatural red.

Albert’s expression shifted. He bent over her. “Ms. Finley…”

He reached out and gently shook her shoulder.

She was always so guarded, but now she just frowned, looking uncomfortable, and didn’t even open

Seeing this, Albert cursed under his breath and reached out to touch her forehead.

She was burning up.

Elnora’s recovery was still recent, so every time she fell ill, it put everyone on edge.

Albert immediately pulled back the covers and scooped her into his arms.

After being jostled around like that, Elnora finally stirred awake.

She opened her eyes, looked up to see who was holding her, and then coughed a few times.

her eyes.

Albert looked at how weak she was and said quietly, his voice serious. “When did you start feeling unwell?”

Elnora didn’t sayanything. She didn’t even want to speak.

She just buried her face in Albert’s chest and remained silent.

Since she wouldn’t answer, Albert didn’t press her.

He made his way downstairs with her in his arms.

The security guard was sharp. As soon as he saw Albert carrying Elnora out, he grabbed the keys, pulled the car up into the driveway, and parked it right at the steps.

Albert ducked into the car, still holding Elnora close.

He could feel the heat radiating off Elnora. She was practically scorching to the touch.

She was so out of it from the fever that she was barely aware of what was happening around her.

‘If she were awake and herself, she’d never let me carry her like this, Albert thought.

He sat down in the car and pulled Elnora onto his lap, cradling her like a child for the ride.

The security guard started the car and headed straight for the hospital.

Every so often, he’d glance at the rearview mirror.

Albert caught his eye, and his gaze turned icy. “Keep looking, and I’ll gouge your eyes out.”

The security guard immediately looked away, not daring to glance at the rearview mirror again.

Albert’s gaze was icy as he realized Elnora was dressed in nothing but a flimsy camisole.

Her skin was perfect, and her proportions were strikingly attractive.

She looked so different from her usual frosty self that it was impossible not to notice her now.

Albert exhaled quietly, turned his eyes away, and shrugged off his suit jacket, wrapping it around Elnora.

Elnora’s head rested unconsciously against his chest, her body so soft that it was like she melted right into him. The way she pressed herself against Albert made his blood run hot.

He reached up and unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt, hoping to ease the heat building inside him.

When they finally reached the hospital, Albert carried Elnora straight inside instantly.

After he settled her onto the hospital bed, Albert finally let out a long breath, feeling a bit of relief.

The doctor came in right away and began a series of examinations on Elnora.

Elnora was really suffering. She lay in bed, coughing violently, her back slightly arched from the discomfort.

Seeing how fragile she looked, Albert sat down by her bedside and gently stroked her back, his touch soft and careful.

He stayed by Elnora’s side all night, never leaving her for a second.

He gently ran his hand along her back to soothe her.

Midnight rolled around, and Elnora was coughing so hard that Albert stormed straight into the doctor’s office, ready to make a scene.

“What kind of useless medicine is this? It’s not doing a damn thing!” he snapped.

The doctor hurried to explain, “No medicine works that fast. It’s not like you can just take a pill and be cured overnight.”

Albert’s expression was so grim that it was downright intimidating.

When he heard Elnora coughing again from her hospital room, he scoffed and strode right back to her bedside.

Albert sat by Elnora’s bed, his face still stern, but his hand was gentle as he rubbed her back, trying to ease her discomfort.

The doctor on duty didn’t get a wink of sleep all night. He was too scared to even take a break.

Albert was sharp as ever. If Elnora’s cough changed even a little, he’d drag the doctor over for questioning, not letting him off the hook for a second.

By the second half of the night, Elnora finally drifted off, and her coughing finally let up a little.

Elnora woke up the next morning to find several doctors standing in her room.

She stared blankly for a few seconds.

The lead doctor came forward with a smile and greeted her. “Ms. Finley, morning. How are you feeling now?”

Elnora smiled lightly. “I’m fine.”

Her throat felt scratchy as she spoke, so she gave a small cough.

The doctor nodded and chatted briefly with Elnora about her condition.

Elnora listened quietly the whole time.

Luckily, it was just a seasonal cold and a bit of fever, nothing serious.

Seeing all those doctors gathered around her bed, Elnora had a brief moment where she thought her old health issues were back.

Compared to yesterday, Elnora felt way better today.

After the doctors left, Albert came in.

He saw Elnora was awake, walked over, and placed his hand on her forehead to check.

“Looks like your fever’s gone,” he said.

Elnora listened to Albert, gave him a faint smile, and thanked him.

“Thank you,” she said softly. “Thanks for looking after me last night.”

She hadn’t slept well at all, but she could feel someone soothing her back throughout the night, making her cough a little less miserable.

Albert’s expression didn’t change at all. He wasn’t looking for any credit or praise.

He pulled up a chair beside her bed and said in a low, casual voice, “You moved in with me at Southview Residence less than two weeks ago, and now you’re already in the hospital.

“If my mom finds out, she’ll never let me hear the end of it.

“Ms. Finley, can you please take better care of yourself?”

Albert looked at Elnora, his expression somber.

Elnora paused for a moment and then replied in a calm voice, “Sorry for the trouble.”

She lowered her gaze, no longer as intimidating as she used to be, but he could hardly sense any real remorse from her words.

Albert let out a low tsk and shifted his gaze away from Elnora.

The mood in the hospital room chilled instantly.

Elnora was just about to speak, but Albert’s phone rang, cutting her off.

Albert got up, walked over to the window, and took the call.

He said, “What?

“How did she get hurt?

“This is such a pain.

“Was anyone else injured?”

After hearing the reply, Albert’s expression turned icy, and he hung up without another word.

When Albert turned around, he saw Elnora sitting up in bed, watching him with a calm, steady gaze.

Before he could say a word, Elnora spoke up in a quiet, composed voice, “Mr. Campbell, if you’ve got things to deal with, just go handle them.

“I’ll call Elara to come pick me up.”
