Elnora looked unfazed, showing no intention of stopping Albert from leaving, which made him frown.

“You don’t even have your phone. How are you going to contact Elara?” Albert asked.

Yesterday, when he rushed out carrying her in his arms, he left all her things behind. He only managed to bring her.

“I can ask the medical staff to let me use their phone and call Elara,” Elnora replied naturally.

As she spoke, she lifted the blanket and got up from the hospital bed.

Albert watched her. “You remember Elara’s number?”

Elnora nodded. “Yeah.”

“What about my number? Do you remember that?” Albert asked.

This time, Elnora didn’t nod right away. She stopped and tried to remember.

Albert could tell from her silence that she didn’t remember his number.

His expression turned sour. He walked over, sat down by her bed, and kept a frosty look on his face.

Albert was upset because Elnora didn’t remember his number.

Elnora pressed her lips together and looked away from him.

She’d heard Albert say something about someone being injured on the phone earlier.

Seeing that Albert had no intention of leaving, she spoke up in a calm voice, “Mr. Campbell, someone’s hurt. Shouldn’t you be handling that?”

Albert let out a soft snort, gave Elnora a sideways glance, and replied coolly, “Am I a doctor? Do you think they’ll just recover because I show up?”

Elnora was at a loss for words.

Albert snorted again when she stayed silent.

The air in the hospital room felt frozen.

This time, Elnora didn’t bother to start a conversation. She glanced down at the floor, but didn’t see any

shoes.

She needed to use the restroom, but there were no shoes on the floor.

Albert was sitting off to the side, scrolling through his phone.

Elnora’s eyes landed on a pair of women’s slippers sitting on the cabinet by the door.

She hesitated for a moment, her toes about to touch down on the floor.

But Albert used his foot to nudge his shoe over, blocking her toes from landing.

“Ms. Finley, can’t bring yourself to ask for help?” he said, a hint of amusement in his voice.

Elnora looked up at him. “I need a pair of slippers.”

Albert grinned at her. “And where do you think you’re going in slippers?”

“To the bathroom,” Elnora said.

She answered without a hint of embarrassment.

Albert raised an eyebrow, got up, and walked over to her with a grin.

“Let me take you,” he said.

Elnora could see he was clearly teasing her, and she frowned. “No need.”

Albert snorted and said, “I changed you into that hospital gown. Nothing to be embarrassed about.”

Elnora paused and then looked down at what she was wearing.

She suddenly remembered she’d been wearing a strappy nightgown when she went to sleep last night.

She took a deep breath, furrowed her brows, and shot Albert a heavy, almost annoyed look.

Albert smirked, then reached over to the cabinet, grabbed the slippers, and placed them in front of her.

“Relax. I was messing with you. The nurse helped you get changed,” he said.

He really didn’t want the nurse to do it, though.

Still, he thought if he did it himself and Elnora woke up, he knew she’d freak out, so he left it to the nurse.

Elnora couldn’t tell if Albert was joking or serious anymore. His words were impossible to sort out.

She slipped on the slippers, still frowning, and headed to the bathroom.

When she came out, Albert was nowhere to be seen.

Her expression grew more neutral as she glanced at the spot where Albert had been sitting, but there was hardly any emotion in her eyes.

Her fever had subsided, and aside from a lingering cough, there was really no need for her to be hospitalized

anymore.

As Elnora stepped out of her room to ask the doctor about being discharged, she saw Elara in the hallway,

searching for her room.

Elnora called out as soon as she saw Elara. “Elara!”

Elara heard her and jogged over.

She was carrying a thermos, her eyes full of worry as she looked at Elnora.

“What happened? How did you end up in the hospital in the middle of the night?” Elara asked.

She’d tried calling Elnora first thing this morning, but Elnora didn’t pick up.

Elnora was always punctual. She’d never miss work unless something was seriously wrong.

So, Elara headed straight to Southview Residence to check on her.

When she arrived at Southview Residence, the security guard at the entrance told her that Elnora didn’t feel well last night and Albert had taken her to the hospital.

Elara showed her work ID and a photo of herself as Elnora’s bridesmaid from the wedding.

After getting permission from Albert, the guard let Elara in and even fetched Elnora’s phone for her.

Elnora replied softly, “I probably caught a chill yesterday. The fever came on pretty strong in the middle of the night, so Albert brought me to the hospital.”

Elara’s face was full of worry. “It’s nothing else, just a fever, right?”

Elnora nodded. “Yeah. The doctor checked my reports and said everything’s fine.”

Elara let out a big sigh of relief. “That’s good.”

Elnora gave her a gentle smile and replied, “Don’t worry.”

Elara let out a soft snort and said, “How could I not worry? When the security guard told me you were sent to the hospital last night, I was scared out of my mind.”

Elnora chuckled and then asked, “Did you bring my phone?”

Elara smiled at her. “Of course.”

As she spoke, Elara pulled out Elnora’s phone and gave it a little wave.

Elnora knew that if Elara couldn’t reach her, she’d definitely head over to Southview Residence to find her.

She took her phone from Elara and opened up the work group chats to check the messages.

The work group chat was unusually quiet.

Elara grabbed Elnora’s hand and hurried her back into the hospital room, saying, “Don’t worry about work right now. Taking care of yourself is way more important.

“Did you eat breakfast yet? I brought you some oatmeal.”

Elnora nodded and casually set her phone aside.

Elara poured some oatmeal into a bowl for Elnora right away.

She just sat quietly by Elnora’s side, watching her eat the oatmeal.

Usually, Elara loved to gossip about work, but today she didn’t mention anything about the office at all.

“You skipped work today just to come see me?” Elnora asked.

Elara nodded. “Yeah, I tried calling you before I left, but I couldn’t get through.”

Elnora just gave a casual “oh” and nodded, not asking anything else.

Elara recalled how Albert seemed to be in a rush when she got here, so she asked, “Did something happen at the office?”

Elnora shook her head lightly and replied in a calm voice, “I’m not sure. Albert got a call and left all of a sudden. Apparently, someone got injured.”

Elara’s expression shifted slightly, a flicker of annoyance rising in her heart on Elnora’s behalf.

‘Could the injured one be Arnetta?’ Elara thought.
