Chapter 621

“Elnora…” Albert started.

But before he could finish, Elnora cut him off in a calm voice.

“I’ll count down from three, and then we’ll start,” she said.

As she spoke, she tightened her grip on the reins. “Three. Two. One.”

As soon as Elnora spoke the last word, both horses shot off from the starting line together.

Albert’s horse quickly pulled ahead of Elnora.

The onlookers in the back saw how quickly things kicked off and jumped onto their horses, taking off after them.

They were dying to know who would come out on top.

Kaelin and Benedict stood at the back, watching everyone else take off on their horses, and then hopped on their own mounts to join the chase.

Kaelin watched as Albert quickly pulled ahead of Elnora and couldn’t help but comment.

“That brat can’t even cut his wife some slack,” Kaelin said. “It’s just a promise, isn’t it? What’s he got to lose?”

Benedict quietly remarked from the sidelines. “What Ms. Finley wants isn’t something material.”

Kaelin joked, “If it’s not something material, what, does Ms. Finley want Albert’s heart or something?

“You’ve seen it yourself these days-what does Ms. Finley care about most? It’s all about profit with her. I’m guessing what she wants is just some kind of business deal.”

Even though the Finley Group had been doing better lately, they were still following the same path the Campbell family had taken.

But the Finley Group was basically treading the same path the Campbell family once walked.

If Elnora wanted to replicate the Campbell family’s success, she’d definitely need their help.

In Kaelin’s eyes, Elnora was a very rational person, so whatever condition she was going to ask for would probably be work-related.

Since it was about work, it wasn’t a big deal.

Benedict stayed silent.

Kaelin kept laughing as he spoke. “Even if Ms. Finley wanted Albert’s heart, he’d probably give it to her without a second thought.

“Did you see how Albert reacted when her horse Buttercup almost trampled Ms. Finley just now?

“One second, he was chatting with me, and the next, he rushed over to rescue her like a hero.

“It’s obvious he’s been watching Ms. Finley nonstop. If he wasn’t so focused on her, he wouldn’t have reacted so strongly.”

Men only ever stared at the people they were truly interested in.

And right now, Elnora was the one Albert couldn’t take his eyes off.

Benedict spoke quietly, his eyes still locked on the racetrack. “The real worry is if Ms. Finley doesn’t care about profit, or his heart.”

This time, Kaelin stayed silent.

Out on the track, Elnora was leaning forward, her riding posture now perfectly in sync with the pros.

She was dead set on winning this race.

She was gearing up for a full-on sprint.

Kaelin, who had been all relaxed and joking around just a moment ago, now looked totally serious.

Elnora picked up speed so quickly that it made everyone a bit anxious.

She soon caught up to Albert.

Albert cast a sidelong glance at Elnora, and for just a moment, his movements faltered. That brief hesitation was all she needed. Elnora overtook him in a flash.

Albert frowned, and he could feel how badly Elnora wanted to win. Without missing a beat, he spurred his horse forward, determined to catch up.

But Elnora and her horse, Gust, were already in perfect sync.

Gust was a professional racehorse through and through.

With Elnora in the saddle, Gust felt right at home, like he’d returned to the racetrack.

Elnora barely edged out Albert by just a few seconds.

Gust burst across the finish line and, pumped with excitement, kicked his front legs up.

As Gust kicked up his front legs, a flash of panic crossed Albert’s eyes. He was afraid Elnora might get tossed.

But Elnora just tightened her grip on the reins, sitting steady and confident atop Gust, exuding a sharp, badass vibe that made her look effortlessly cool.

Albert swung off his horse and strode over to Elnora.

Elnora didn’t dismount right away. She stayed on Gust, looking down at Albert with a teasing smile

“Mr. Campbell, you lost,” she said.

Albert nodded, graciously admitting he’d lost the race.

“Yes, I lost,” he said.

Elnora looked him in the eye and smiled.

“Mr. Campbell, you owe me a promise. I won’t wait long before I come to collect,” she teased.

Albert nodded. “Alright.”

His voice was a bit rough as he tilted his head up to meet Elnora’s gaze.

Elnora flashed a subtle smile, gave the reins a confident shake, and Gust strutted right past Albert.

Albert stayed where he was, watching her ride away, and ran a hand over his brow.

Kaelin and Benedict were both stunned by what they saw.

After a long while, Kaelin murmured quietly.

“I actually feel a bit sorry for Albert,” he said.

Benedict asked, “Why’s that?”

Kaelin scratched his head and said, “Getting drawn to a woman like Ms. Finley, but realizing you just can’t handle her. That’s gotta be rough.”

Benedict nodded slightly.

“It really is tough.” Benedict admitted.

Albert was feeling absolutely miserable right now.

It wasn’t because he lost the race.

It was because he could already guess what kind of condition Elnora was going to ask for.

Elnora brought Gust back to the stable and secured him inside.

Wren immediately trotted over.

“Ms. Finley, congratulations on winning the race!” Wren said. “So, what kind of favor are you going to ask Mr. Campbell for? I’m dying to know!”

Elnora pressed her lips together, her gaze settling on Wren as she replied, “Honestly, I’m just as curious as you

are.”

Wren blinked in surprise. “Huh?”

Elnora shifted her gaze away from Wren and gave Gust a gentle pat.

She was genuinely curious about what she might have done to offend Wren.

‘Why else would Wren try to embarrass me during the race?’ Elnora wondered.

Wren had been coated with a scent that horses are attracted to.

That was why Buttercup was so friendly with her just now, and so was Gust.

But since Gust wasn’t pregnant, his mood stayed stable.

The reason Buttercup suddenly acted up was that, when Elnora mounted and stepped into the stirrup, her foot pressed against Buttercup’s belly.

Driven by her maternal instincts, the mare was easily startled and became agitated.

When Wren brought her over to fetch Buttercup, there were staff right there watching.

Elnora thought, ‘Even Stella knew Buttercup was pregnant. How could Wren, the owner of the stables, not know? Besides, at a fancy stable like this, I bet the staff gives daily updates on every horse.

Seeing Elnora resting her hand on Gust, looking completely relaxed with not a hint of nerves left, Wren grinned and said, “Ms. Finley, you’re incredible. You were nervous about getting close to Gust earlier, but now you don’t seem scared at all.”

Elnora shot Wren a sideways glance, a smirk tugging at her lips as she replied, “You’ve really got an eye for

detail.”

Wren froze for a second.

The next moment, Elnora went on, “Honestly, I should thank you, Wren. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to get over my fear. I’m really not scared anymore.

“You were right when you said earlier. Animals really are the purest creatures in the world.”

Wren gave an awkward smile, clearly at a loss for words.

She was starting to worry that Elnora might have already figured out what she was up to.

But then she reassured herself, ‘I was so sneaky about it. No way anyone could catch on. Even if Elnora does figure it out, she can’t really do anything to me.

‘Besides, maybe Elnora wasn’t even throwing shade at me.’
