Chapter 622
Wren’s smile faded a bit as she studied Elnora’s expression, her eyes full of curiosity.
She said, “For those of us who grew up in this circle, picking up on cues is just second nature. Honestly, I can’t say for sure if you were actually afraid of horses.
“But I really admire how you faced your fears head-on. That race with Mr. Campbell was incredible. It totally blew us away. I’m really lucky to have met someone like you, Ms. Finley.”
Elnora smiled calmly, then took off her gloves and handed them to a staff member nearby.
Since Wren was being so gracious, Elnora responded in kind, keeping her tone pleasant.
She said, “You’re too kind, Wren. Honestly, I should be thanking you for your warm invitation.
“But unfortunately, there’s something I need to take care of at the company, so I’ll have to excuse myself and leave early.”
Wren’s eyes brimmed with regret.
She asked, “You’re heading out already? There’s a bonfire night at the riding club later.”
Elnora said, “Too bad I can’t make it to the bonfire tonight. Hope you all have a blast.”
Wren fell silent.
Elnora kept her tone polite. “I’m heading out now.”
Wren was about to say something to keep Elnora around, but before she could get a word out, she looked up and saw Elnora’s assistant already waiting at the entrance of the riding club.
After saying goodbye to Wren, Elnora headed straight for the entrance, not giving Wren another chance to try and stop her.
Seeing this, Wren could only follow along.
She said, “Work comes first, so I won’t keep you. Let me walk you to the door.”
Elnora nodded. “Alright.”
As they walked out, Wren kept making small talk.
Elnora answered with a calm demeanor, and Wren never picked up on anything amiss the whole time.
When Elnora approached, Elara stepped forward and opened the car door for her.
Elnora bent down and got into the car.
Wren stood by the car, gave Elnora a friendly wave and a bright smile as she said goodbye.

Elnora gave a slight nod in response.
Wren kept her warm smile. “Let’s get together again soon, Ms. Finley.”
Elnora nodded. “Sure.”
She flashed Wren a friendly smile as she spoke.
Seeing that, Wren felt all her worries melt away.
‘Guess I really was just overthinking it,’ she thought.
After all, this was only their first meeting, and she’d been so discreet about her true intentions that there was no way Elnora could’ve picked up on anything suspicious.
Elara arched an eyebrow at Elnora’s smile, then quickly slipped into the car.
Once inside, Elara immediately started the engine.
Wren stood there smiling, watching as Elnora’s car pulled away.
As soon as the car started, the window slid up.
Wren never saw Elnora’s face turn icy in that split second.
Once Elnora’s car was out of sight, Wren finally turned and headed back into the riding club lounge.
Kaelin and Benedict were still gathered around Albert, talking with him.
When Albert saw Wren walk in alone, he immediately asked, “Where’s she?”
Wren glanced at Albert and asked, “Ms. Finley, you mean?”
Albert nodded.
Wren answered right away, “Ms. Finley mentioned she had some work to handle, so she left early. I thought she’d already let you know.”
Albert didn’t respond to Wren. Instead, he stood up with a grim expression, took out his phone, and headed outside to call Elnora.
The call connected almost immediately.
Elnora’s voice came through, cold and detached, showing no emotion at all.
“Mr. Campbell, is there something you need?” she said.
Albert’s grip on his phone tightened slightly.
He said, “Nothing, really. I just heard from Wren that you left, so I wanted to check in. What’s going on at the company?”

Elnora was silent for a few seconds before her cool voice came through.
She said, “The results of the investigation on Nelson are in.

“Turns out he’s definitely involved in the problem I mentioned earlier. The evidence is undeniable, and he confessed himself.
“I’m heading over to the branch office to handle this. Are you coming?”
Albert’s brows furrowed as he replied seriously, “I’ll be there right away.”
Elnora replied coolly, “If you’re heading over, then I won’t need to go.”
Albert asked, “Why?”
Elnora said, “We can’t have two people steering the ship at the same time when it comes to making decisions. If the management can’t agree, it’ll just mess with the team’s morale.”
Albert caught on to what Elnora was getting at, and his voice instantly turned cold.
He asked, “Ms. Finley, do you really think I’d cover for Nelson?”
Elnora replied, “You’re overthinking it. That’s not what I think.”
Albert pressed, “Then why won’t you go if I’m heading over?”
Elnora’s voice was cool and detached. “I already told you the reason. With your intelligence, I don’t need to repeat myself.”
Albert was silent.
He gripped his phone tightly, not saying a word for a long time.
When Albert still didn’t answer, Elnora prompted him, “Are you coming over, Mr. Campbell?”
Albert gritted his teeth. “You’ve made your position clear enough, Ms. Finley. If I went now, it’d just look bad on me. I’ll leave everything in your hands.”
Elnora nodded. “Alright, I’ll handle it myself. Anything else, Mr. Campbell?”
“No,” Albert replied, his tone flat and a bit sullen.
Elnora didn’t hang up right away. She thought Albert would be the first to end the call.
But after waiting a few seconds, Albert still hadn’t hung up.
In the end, Elnora was the one who ended the call herself.
After hanging up, Elnora glanced down at Albert’s name on her phone screen, then put her phone away.
Wren followed Albert outside.

She noticed he was still standing there, phone in hand and looking a little lost after ending the call. She walked over and spoke softly, “Mr. Campbell, is everything alright with Ms. Finley?”
Albert put his phone away and replied coolly, “Everything’s fine.”
Wren smiled and said, “That’s good. I was worried she might’ve left because she was upset about the whole thing in the stables earlier.”
Albert said, “She’s not the petty type.”
His wife was generous, to a fault, so generous it made him grit his teeth.
Wren pursed her lips and smiled. “I don’t think Ms. Finley is the kind to take things personally.
“Honestly, I didn’t expect Ms. Taylor to show up today. I’ll make sure the riding club limits her visits from now on. What do you think, Mr. Campbell?”
Albert frowned. “This is your riding club. Whatever you decide has nothing to do with me. Why ask me?”
Wren’s smile faltered for a moment, then she quickly recovered. “Well, Ms. Taylor was once your person, so…”
Albert didn’t bother letting Wren finish. He strode right past her. “I said, it has nothing to do with me.”
