Trevor picked up the paper from the floor, glanced at the proposal, and looked at Yvonne in confusion. “Yvonne, what’s wrong with this proposal? Mr. Felix just said it wasn’t good enough and that
you need to redo it. You’ve always done excellent work before. Why would this one be rejected, especially by Mr. Felix himself?”
It wasn’t that proposals had never been rejected, but since Yvonne joined the company, it had almost never happened. To have it suddenly rejected by Felix was baffling. Could it be that he was deliberately making things difficult for them?
Chase gritted his teeth in resentment. “Dad, what else could it be? Tracy must have said something to Mr. Felix. That’s the only reason our proposal would be rejected. Yvonne’s proposals are approved by many companies. The only explanation is that Tracy is sabotaging us. She’s held a grudge all these years because we didn’t give her money, and now she wants to destroy us. Her motives are vicious. We don’t have such a malicious sister in the Xander family.”
The thought of Yvonne being hit by Felix made his heart ache. Tracy had gone too far. She had just gotten him slapped twice by his own father. His face was still stinging.
“To use Felix to trip us up, all out of jealousy for Yvonne… It’s just vicious!”
Faye chimed in, “How could Tracy do this? Even if she doesn’t like us, she can’t jeopardize the company’s interests! It’s one thing for my daughter and me to be mistreated, but this proposal involves the entire company. How can she be so selfish?”
Hearing Chase’s words, she felt a surge of relief. That’s the son I raised. Even though he had never once called her “Mom,” at least he knew how to protect them. With Chase on their side, they could handle any trouble Tracy stirred up.
Her daughter was a top student from Northville University. How could she lose to Tracy? The only possibility was that Tracy had used her connections to get first place.
At this thought, Faye said aloud, “Tracy has clearly gotten in with the Quinn family… Do you think her exam score was faked? After all, she’s never even touched AI. How could she become an expert so quickly? She’s just an undergrad, and she beat a Ph.D. student? That doesn’t add up.”
It didn’t matter how Tracy got first place; she couldn’t be the one to partner with the Medical Al Department. That honor belonged to their Yvonne. Tracy would be forced to give it up, one way or another.
Jared agreed with Faye. He sighed, “Anything gained through dishonest means will eventually be lost. Don’t worry, the department will deal with her. The party is almost over, and I have work to do. I’m heading back to the office.”

He didn’t have time for these petty squabbles. He had a mountain of work waiting. But Faye’s reminder had given him renewed leverage to use with their partners.
She’s right. Tracy is just an amateur. Even if she has some skill, it’s all just talk. Real AI isn’t just theory; it requires practical application. A novice like Tracy will be exposed soon enough. She thinks she can just ride a man’s coattails to the top? How naive. She’s digging her own grave. He wouldn’t even have to do anything. Tracy would self-destruct and bury herself.
He would just wait for her downfall. And when it came, even if she begged, they would not easily forgive her.
After leaving the banquet, Felix was still worried about Tracy, so he drove her home. He then had his assistant drive her car back to her apartment complex.
Just as the elevator doors opened, Tracy saw Sean’s tall figure.
She froze for a second, and before she could react, Sean pulled her into the elevator.
Sean pinned her against the elevator wall. As the doors slid shut, he pressed his tall body against hers. His hand cupped her head, holding her still, and his lips crushed down on hers. The kiss was domineering, almost punishing, and not at all gentle.
He’s kissing me in an elevator? Isn’t he worried someone will walk in? I feel like my heart can’t take this….
Their breaths tangled, and it was impossible to tell whose was more ragged. Tracy’s mind went hazy from the kiss.
Sean only released her when the elevator dinged and the doors opened to the sound of voices outside.
The moment the doors opened, Tracy’s heart stopped. She quickly smoothed her wrinkled clothes and pressed herself against the wall, standing stiffly.
