In contrast to Tracy’s panic, Sean was very calm. He stood in front of her, pulling her close as if to protect her.
The people at the elevator entrance weren’t surprised. Young couples these days weren’t very discreet; you could run into public displays of affection anywhere.
It was rush hour, and the elevator filled up quickly. Sean held Tracy securely in his arms, shielding her from the crowd.
When they finally reached the ninth floor, Sean continued to shield her as they exited, drawing envious looks from the others.
“Look at that young couple, they’re so sweet. He’s protecting her completely. He’d rather get squished himself than let her get jostled.”
“I know, right? You don’t see loving couples like that very often these days. It makes you jealous!”
“I’m so old, but seeing them so sweet makes me want to fall in love. It’s just adorable!”
Hearing their comments, Tracy’s face burned. She shyly gave Sean a little push. We’re not even dating. How could we be a ‘couple’?
Sean’s gaze sharpened as he looked at her. “Who brought you home just now?”
“It was Felix,” Tracy mumbled, her head down, afraid to look at him.
But then again, why does he care so much who brought me home? And he just kissed me in public… Could he… like me?
But she quickly dismissed the thought. It’s probably just revenge for me biting him the other day.
Sean’s expression visibly darkened. “Didn’t I tell you to stay away from him?”
Tracy kept her head down, explaining softly, “There’s really nothing going on between me and Felix.”
Hearing this, Sean’s expression relaxed. “I had some food delivered from Garden Pavilion. It’s too much for one person. Eat with me. I have something to tell you afterward.”
Tracy was about to say she’d already eaten, but just then, her stomach growled. She was too embarrassed to say anything.

Sitting on the sofa, Tracy remembered he’d said he had something to tell her. She looked up. “You said you had something to tell me. Is it… about them? Have they made a move?”

Sean nodded. “They made a move after the Cloud University incident blew up. I’ve traced it to the White family.”
Tracy wasn’t surprised. Her grandmother had warned her that the power behind Yvonne was significant. As one of Northport’s four great families, the White family’s power was immense. They could easily cover up the truth. Back then, destroying someone would have been child’s play for them.
But the mention of the White family immediately made her think of Julie, the woman who claimed to be Sean’s fiancée.
She could already see how they would start to move against her. Her grandmother had underestimated their ruthlessness. Even if she did nothing, they wouldn’t leave her alone.
Sean took a sip of water. “The White family went to see Waylon. Your contract signing is probably going to be postponed.”
There was no surprise in her calm eyes. She had expected this. It would be strange if Yvonne didn’t retaliate after being so humiliated.
“You don’t seem surprised. You guessed?”
Tracy nodded. “My grandmother looked into this years ago, so I knew some of it. I just didn’t know it was the White family. By the way, she collected a lot of evidence back then. It might be useful. I’ll go get it.”
She wasn’t worried about the White family’s move. Waylon was a government official; he wasn’t going to be intimidated by family power.
She got the file her grandmother had given her and handed it to Sean. She felt a knot of anxiety in her stomach. After all, the White and Johnson families are old allies. I don’t know if he’ll back off because of that…
