Chapter 24

“It’s lunchtime. Want to grab something to eat?” Leo looked at his watch. “We can talk about research stuff while we’re at it.”

“Sounds good,” Queenie said with a nod. She didn’t have plans anyway. It had been seven years since she’d done this kind of work, and she was really out of practice. Talking with Leo would help her get back up to speed.

She’d already let William down once. She wasn’t going to do it again. Besides, this wasn’t just for William. It was for herself,

too.

They found a nearby restaurant, a popular spot in Ravesdale.

They got a table by the window. While waiting for their food, they went through the materials William had given them.

After seven years away from the field, Queenie realized how much she’d forgotten. There was so much she needed to catch

up on.

“Leo, can I make a copy of these and take them home? I need more time to go through everything,” Queenie said. ‘There’s too much to absorb right now. I can’t do it in a short time,’ she thought.

“Sure, no problem,” Leo said.

Queenie stacked up the papers. When she looked up, she froze.

Leo followed her gaze and saw Vincent and Vivian walking in together. They were standing close, laughing and chatting, clearly into each other. Anyone would think they were a couple in love.

Queenie hadn’t expected to see them here.

Vincent and Vivian spotted Queenie right away.

“Oh, I didn’t know Queenie would be here,” Vivian said, acting surprised. “Vincent, should we go say hello?”

“No,” Vincent said curtly, heading straight to a private room.

Vivian gave Queenie a quick smile and then hurried after Vincent.

Leo glanced at them and turned to Queenie. “Rumor has it they’re dating.”\

“I didn’t know you kept up with celebrity gossip,” Queenie said with a smile. She looked totally calm, as if she were another acquaintance to them.

Leo raised an eyebrow and said helplessly, “I don’t even want to, but you can’t avoid their headlines.”.

Queenie thought, ‘Yeah, the tabloids never stop talking about them. If it weren’t hyped, there wouldn’t be this much news about them.

‘Vincent is the CEO of StarVision Media. If he wants to squash the rumors, he totally can. It’s not about ability. It’s about whether he cares enough to do it.

‘Right, hype it up first. Let the rumors spread, and when the time is right, make it official. Then everything will fall into place. Vincent can be thoughtful. It’s just that he never bothers when it’s about me.’

“You know they’re all over the news. That guy with Vivian owns StarVision Media. Aren’t you worried they’ll come after you

since you turned her down?” Queenie asked.

Queenie had figured out Vivian’s plan the moment she started cozying up to Leo. As a team leader of the R&D Department at N&Q Institute of Medicine, Leo was the way Vivian got to Nathan.

Back then, Queenie knew Vincent needed Nathan’s help for Linda’s migraines. So she went to Nathan, and they created the special medicine Linda was using now.

Vivian was clearly hoping Nathan could cure Linda’s headaches. But Leo had just rejected her without even trying to be polite.

When Vivian first came back from overseas, Vincent got her a role opposite a hot young actor. But the guy refused to work with her, saying she was a nobody who got the part through connections and had zero talent.

A few days later, he was replaced. Overnight, every embarrassing story about him came out, even stuff like him peeing in public as a kid. After that, he vanished from the industry.

No one could make that happen except Vincent. He always protected Vivian. Now that Leo had embarrassed her, Vincent definitely wouldn’t let it go.

Leo smiled, totally unfazed. “I’m not in the entertainment business, so what’s there to be afraid of?”
