Chapter 23
“Leo!” Vivian called out as she walked over.
Leo looked her way. He wasn’t really into celebrity gossip, but he’d heard a bit about Vivian’s reputation.

“Leo, can we talk for a minute? Just the two of us?” Vivian asked, casually playing with her hair, her beauty hinting at flirtation.
Since she couldn’t get to William, Leo was her next best bet. He worked at the N&Q Institute of Medicine as a team leader in the R&D Department. She bet he knew Nathan. If she got close to Leo, he could introduce her to Nathan.
She thought, ‘If I can get Nathan to Linda’s headaches, Vincent will owe me a big one. He could even marry Queenie, so then why couldn’t he divorce her and marry me?’
Leo glanced at Queenie and then said coldly, “Sorry, I’m busy.”
“When are you free then? We can meet another time,” Vivian pushed, not backing down.
Leo’s tone got sharper. “Didn’t you get it? I refused you.”
Vivian’s face darkened. No one had ever turned her down so bluntly before.
“Queenie, let’s go,” Leo said.
“Okay,” Queenie replied.
The two of them walked right past Vivian.
“Did you turn her down because of me?” Queenie asked.
Leo didn’t hold back. “Yeah. You’re not just my junior. You’re on my team. I’m not hanging out with anyone who has a problem with my teammates.”
A warm feeling spread through Queenie’s chest. In the past seven years, no one had ever taken her side like this. It felt strange, but also kind of nice.
The two walked out of the school, talking and laughing. As soon as they stepped outside, Queenie spotted a car she’d recognize anywhere. Inside, she saw that familiar figure.
She looked over, and Vincent was already staring right back at her.
Vivian walked up, pulled the car door open, and got in.
Queenie’s expression didn’t change. She stayed completely calm. She’d always known Vincent being here had nothing to do
with her.
“Queenie, what’s wrong?” Leo asked, following her gaze. When his eyes landed on Vincent, he could feel the tension right
away.
Queenie pulled her gaze back. “Leo, let’s go.”
“Okay,” Leo said, giving Vincent one more look before following Queenie.

nside the car, Vincent fixed his gaze on Queenie, his deep eyes cold and unreadable.

Vincent, Vivian said, looking where he was looking. “I just heard Queenie’s working at the N&Q Institute of Medicine. Can ou believe they hired her after she’s been out of the field for seven years?”
‘incent’s expression tightened for a moment. ‘So she’s at the N&Q Institute of Medicine? Now it makes sense why she wouldn’t resign,’ he thought, looking away. “So, did you get to meet Mr. Grant?”
‘ivian said, “Yeah, I did. But when Mr. Grant showed up, Queenie pissed him off, and he stormed out. I wanted to talk to eo, a team leader of the R&D Department at the N&Q Institute of Medicine.
Then it’d be way easier to see Professor Nathan Emerson through him. However, Queenie ruined my plan. I even explained
hat I wanted, but Queenie still wouldn’t let Leo talk to me alone. I have no clue what her deal is.”
Vivian sounded sad as she glanced at Vincent from time to time, hoping to see his reaction, but he sat there, stone-faced,
arely reacting at all.
