After Victor put the Cylindrical Cargo Pod away, he continued to open Source Crystals.
Perhaps due to it being the early days of the apocalypse, the advanced Source Crystals contained no equipment apart from the last two crystals from the mutants. They all transformed into experience points.
“Is my luck that bad?” Victor thought, feeling a bit annoyed. He hadn’t done that well in his previous life but he didn’t remember having such bad luck.
“Well, let’s see if you guys drop anything.” Victor placed his hopes on the remaining two Source Crystals.
“Open.”
“Ding! Acquired skill: Death Laser.”
Victor’s mouth curled into a grin. “Finally, something good!”
“Continue.”
“Ding! Acquired excellent external armor: Reinforced Alloy Armor.”
“Just as I thought, the mutants are more generous,” Victor was very satisfied with the loot from these two Source Crystals.
“Learn Death Laser.”
“Ding! Death Laser learned successfully.”
[Death Laser: Active skill. Attack multiple targets in a straight line.]
“This should be from the mutated mechanical deer. Not bad.” Victor nodded in approval. The Death Laser skill could serve as a ranged attack, compensating for his weakness.
Also, the Death Laser was similar in effect to the mutated mechanical deer’s electromagnetic beam. Besides dealing damage, it also paralyzed the target.
“Equip Reinforced Alloy Armor.”
[Excellent Reinforced Alloy Armor]

[Durability: 500]
“Not too shabby,” Victor commented.
All armor could change sizes to adapt to the mecha. Compared to the Death Laser skill, the armor was indeed a bit underwhelming. The increase in combat power was modest for the current Victor, but given that armor provided defense, it was understandable for the combat power boost to be low.
The effectiveness of an armor depended on its grade and material. Reinforced alloy was a decent material in the early stages of the apocalypse, able to withstand attacks from ordinary mechanical creatures.
Durability measured the wear and tear of the external armor. If durability fell too low, the armor’s defense would be significantly compromised.
“I’ve leveled up to Level 19. My leveling speed is quite fast. At this rate, I might be able to reach Level 30 today.”

Level 30 would allow the mecha to undergo a second evolution.
Victor had imagined that things would go smoothly, but he didn’t expect them to be this smooth.
Completing the first two evolutions on the first day of the apocalypse was something he couldn’t have dreamed of before his rebirth.
Victor quickly got up.
He had consumed nearly all the ordinary Source Crystals, and the mecha’s power had been restored to 90%. The numbness in his arms had also vanished.
“I’m out of Source Crystals.”
Victor murmured as he ventured further into the zoo.
He truly had no Source Crystals left besides some ordinary crystals.
Collecting Source Crystals was now a priority.
Not long after, Victor entered the fox zone. However, there were no signs of any foxes inside.
“What’s going on?” Victor wondered.
As he ventured deeper into the zoo, his confusion only grew.
The zebra, giraffe, and hippopotamus zones were all empty. There wasn’t a single mechanical creature in sight.
“Did the predator mechanical creatures kill them all?” wondered Victor. He left the herbivorous animal zones and swiftly headed for the predator zones.
Predators were inherently bloodthirsty and aggressive, and their combat prowess was significantly greater than that of herbivorous mechanical creatures, which was why Victor had decided to save them for later.
