Chapter 63 Tenth

“By the way. Maya, do you know where the students ranked above you live?

“You could invite them all over,” Wendy said with a soft smile that carried a faint edge of danger. “I’ll step into the kitchen and bring them something special.”

Something special?

Why would Mom suddenly want to give the students ranked above me something special?

Maya felt lost as the question circled in her mind.

Wendy thought, I only need to deal with them one by one based on the list.

If she removed everyone above her on that list, then her daughter would become number one.

This plan felt flawless, and it thrilled her.

Wendy held the report card in both hands as quiet delight filled her chest.

How could someone as brilliant as me even exist? The thought lingered with pride.

The moment Wendy spoke, Alfred understood her meaning at once.

His mother’s thinking had always been strange, and it never followed a normal path.

That line about bringing something from the kitchen clearly meant she wanted to remove everyone ranked above Maya.

“But I’m ranked above Maya too.”

Alfred kept his gaze steady as he spoke with full seriousness. “Do I have to die too, Mom?”

Wendy said nothing for a brief moment.

“Oh, you don’t need to die for now,” she replied, brushing him off without care.

Their exchange sounded distant and unreal, and no ordinary person could follow it.

How did this mother and son shift from inviting classmates to discussing death?

“Maya!” Jenny suddenly shouted from the side.

That small matter about inviting classmates faded as something far more urgent rose into focus.

“Your dad… he looks like he’s barely holding on?”

Raymond had been struck to the ground by Wendy, and his face met the floor without mercy. His nose angled downward as fresh blood slipped out in a slow, vivid line.

The already weary man swayed as he stood, and his body looked ready to give out at any second.

Maya gasped as she rushed forward and held him steady. “Dad, are you okay?

“Mom’s strength feels a little too much, right?”

She recalled the moment with shock, and disbelief filled her voice. It was the first time she had seen someone’s head get knocked away like that.

“I’m fine, Maya…

Raymond stayed on the ground for a short while as he gathered himself. Then he covered his bleeding nose with a bloodied hand and forced himself upright with stubborn resolve.

“A woman with that kind of temper, that’s real spirit.

“If your mom can strike me today, then she can face the whole world tomorrow.”

Jenny stared at Maya’s parents with a frozen expression as shock overtook her.

Did that hit shake his mind apart?

Raymond had not lost his sense. He spoke with rare seriousness.

His thoughts drifted back to the fierce days of his past.

From Wendy’s view, their first meeting had been love at first sight on a rooftop, where both of them fell for each other.

In truth, he had been forced into submission through sheer force.

At the start, he refused without hesitation.

A woman appeared out of nowhere and demanded marriage.

Raymond came from a rigid and traditional family like the Clarks.

His natural pride made him look down on Wendy at first glance.

Then she broke his ribs with a single strike and drove him into a wall.

After that moment, he accepted everything.

When Wendy was younger, she had been slow and absent-minded.

That did not mean she had become sharp now.

At the beginning, Raymond tried to remove this powerful and unpredictable girl. He even hired people to eliminate her.

Every attempt failed.

He sent more than ten assassins and believed she was gone for good.

The next night, he saw her again. She appeared at his window in the middle of the night and sat there with her legs crossed as she played with a dagger.

Chapter 63 Tenth

Finished

She spoke to herself with confusion, “I don’t know why, but the one who assigns missions placed a bounty on me these past few days. I spent a long time dealing with them.

“I wonder when they’ll cancel it. Taking people out every day feels exhausting. I just want a quiet life.”

Raymond stayed silent as he listened.

It became clear that this was a terrifying woman that even more than ten top assassins could not defeat.

Even a man as detached as Raymond felt fear stir within him.

He excelled at silent kills, yet he lacked strength in close combat.

If she ever learned that he hired those assassins, one strike from her could send him flying across the street.

After weighing every outcome, Raymond chose to let go of all grudges.

He ignored the pain in his ribs and walked forward with steady confidence. Then he greeted the girl at the window with ease.

“Hey, sweetheart.”

So, was it love at first sight?

Of course not.

Back then, he had no path left, and he had been forced into it by a domineering killer.

After getting struck for his reckless words, Raymond never signed Maya’s report card.

In the end, Wendy signed her name instead.

“When is your school’s parent meeting?” Wendy sat upright on the couch as her eyes shone with eager light. She clasped her hands together and waited with bright anticipation.
