Chapter 64 It’s Next Week

Maya lowered her voice. “Next week.”

“Then I’ll buy clothes tomorrow and make sure I look stunning,” Wendy said as her eyes lit up with excitement. She sat there as if she already pictured the moment.

School was a battlefield, and Wendy refused to let her child embarrass herself there.

“Wait, Mom, a lot of parents don’t even show up for the meeting.” Maya said quickly as tension rose in her chest. Even if she stayed away, she still feared Thomas might trace things back to her mother, so they shouldn’t meet at all.

“I can ask Toby to attend for me,” she added as a solution formed in her mind.

Maya immediately thought of her reliable brother.

Toby, who got called out of nowhere, answered without hesitation. “I’m not going.”

His reason came clean and firm. “I’m still a student.”

He felt that wasn’t enough, so he lifted his arm and dragged his tone with visible weakness and complaint. “And I’m injured.”

Maya turned toward him at once and rushed to his side. Her voice rose and fell with emotion, and her doll- like face showed pure concern.

“Oh, my poor Toby, let me check on you. If anyone ever makes you shed even a single tear again, I’ll wipe them out.

“I promise you,” she added as she clung to his uninjured arm. “If anyone dares hurt you, I’ll take them all down.”

Toby listened to her entire performance without a change in expression. Then he flicked her forehead away with calm indifference.

“You’d struggle to deal with a chicken.”

Maya always mocked him like that, saying he could barely handle something that simple.

But if he held a gun, he would pull the trigger without hesitation.

As for Maya, she was the real coward.

Even with the obvious mockery, she didn’t care at all. When she needed help, she knew how to act.

“Just help me this once, please,” she said as her tone softened into a plea.

Her voice turned sweet and flattering as she held onto his arm and refused to let go. Her clear eyes stared at him as if he was her entire world.

“You’re the pride of Harmony International School, the only heir in the family, and the most perfect man alive.

“Those words don’t even cover a fraction of who you are.

“I won’t need to pray anymore.

“Because my god has arrived!”

Toby went silent.

He admitted that the flattery pleased him, yet he still refused.

“No.”

He didn’t dare challenge their mother’s authority, and Wendy clearly wanted to attend the meeting herself.

If he said yes, he would end up the one lying on the floor next.

Maya froze for a second.

When she realized that he showed no sign of softening, she switched instantly and threatened him with sharp anger. “Didn’t you promise that if I attended that banquet with you, you’d listen to me for a whole week?”

Toby stayed calm. “That agreement already expired.”

He had been recovering for a full month already.

Maya’s mind went blank.

She never expected that detail to come back at her.

After a moment of silence, she lunged at him and grabbed his face. Her whole body tensed with frustration. “You dishonest, calculating businessman, I’m calling the cops on you,” she snapped.

He leaned back in panic. “Wait, my arm isn’t fully healed yet.”

“Who cares! Do you think I’ll go easy on you?”

The siblings rolled into each other on the couch in an instant.

Toby didn’t want to keep playing around, and his arm still hadn’t fully recovered, so he pressed her into the couch and spoke with a cool tone. “You know the rules. When you make a deal, you need to understand the terms clearly.”

Maya stared at him with a blank and clueless look. “I don’t care.”

Toby smiled. “Cool, because it’s something I just made up.”

Maya fell silent.

Frustration flared in her chest as she couldn’t understand how someone like Toby could exist.

“You’re so annoying. Has no one ever insulted you behind your back at school?” she asked as her voice carried sharp disbelief.

“Who would dare?” he said as his tone lifted with cold pride. He let out a faint laugh as he looked down on the idea. “Anyone who tried wouldn’t last.”

At Harmony International School, there was no group at the top. Toby stood at the center alone.

Even among the elite children of powerful families, his background stood above the rest, and anyone who crossed him either got expelled or pushed out.

His eyes sank with a heavy chill, and a twisted smile curved across his lips, giving him a dangerously elegant look.

Maya stared at him in silence for a moment. Then she reached out and grabbed his face, twisting it into a ridiculous shape.

“Toby, can you stop wasting that amazing face to make such shady expressions?” she said with sincere frustration.

He looked exactly like a sinister villain from a drama.

Toby’s face warped under her grip as he let out a muffled sound. “What?”

Jenny watched this entire family scene from the side and slowly leaned closer to Alfred, who barely stood out. “Hey, I’m serious,” she whispered under her breath. “Your family dynamic is really strange.”
