Chapter 86 Amateur Tail

George had been spamming Toby with harassment messages almost every day this week, throwing in the occasional verbal threat for good measure.

Did he look like someone who’d be intimidated?

Toby immediately put a bounty on that lunatic’s head.

He placed a one-hundred-million-dollar contract through an assassin organization, and then, just to be petty, posted George’s photo on the dark web with a reward of one dollar.

One dollar!

George nearly laughed when he saw it.

He didn’t really care about what was going on with his family, nor did he care much about the sudden appearance of a “little sister.”

Even bringing her up on the phone had just been a way to mess with Toby.

Watching him get all tense and paranoid had been hilarious.

But Toby wasn’t easy to deal with either. Not only was he sending assassins after him, but he was even slapping a one-dollar bounty on his head just to annoy him.

Originally, George hadn’t planned on going to Harmony International School.

But after that stunt, he was going to show up and have some fun with his dear little brother.

“Keep an eye on the kid in the photo. If the parents show up, follow them. Once you figure out where they live, invite them over for tea.

“The priority is the child. Get a strand of hair with the root intact and bring it to me immediately.”

“Invite,” he said, but what he really meant was take them by force if necessary.

To make sure everything went smoothly, Thomas hired five people at once.

Wendy didn’t pick the kids up from school every day.

Only when she had time, or when she happened to be out running errands, would she stop by.

Today, she just so happened to be heading out to buy groceries.

She stood outside the school gates, holding a canvas shopping bag, dressed in a simple beige knit sweater and dark pants, her long hair loosely tied back.

In a crowd, she looked like the most ordinary woman imaginable.

Wendy waited expectantly.

Soon enough, she spotted Maya and Alfred walking out hand in hand.

“Hi, my babies.”

She pulled both kids into a warm hug, smiling brightly. “How was school?

“Did you eat properly? What do you want for dinner?

“The fridge is empty, so how about we stop by the supermarket first?”

One of the men snapped a photo of the scene and sent it to his employer.

Thomas studied the woman in the image.

Very ordinary.

She and her husband looked like a completely average family.

People like that could probably be dealt with using money alone.

“Don’t act yet. Stay on them. Find out where they live first,” Thomas instructed.

He hadn’t been able to trace their home address at all.

That alone was suspicious.

Better to confirm it before making a move.

Cars picking up students gradually cleared out. Wendy carried her shopping bag, planning to take the kids to a nearby mall and supermarket to pick up groceries for the week.

But after only a few steps, she felt someone following them.

Harmony International School wasn’t crowded, which made unskilled tails stand out immediately.

Wendy quickly picked up on several men who looked casual on the surface but kept glancing their way.

Her expression didn’t change. Naturally, she led the children down a quieter path with fewer people.

This route was clearly off.

It wasn’t the way home, nor the way to the shopping district,

Maya sensed something strange, but she was smart enough not to say anything. She just stayed close to her mother.

Wendy could easily shake off these amateurs, but she didn’t

She was curious.

Curious about their purpose.

Were they targeting her? Or Raymond?

The Clarks had cleaned up her records thoroughly, so no one should be coming after her anymore.

Which meant this was probably one of Raymond’s loose ends.

“I haven’t been followed by amateurs like this in… over a decade,” Wendy murmured softly, holding her children’s hands. “This is painfully sloppy.”

Their pacing was inconsistent, and their gazes lingered too long-both full of obvious mistakes.

She couldn’t help but critique them honestly. Listening to their clumsy footsteps behind her, she found it almost amusing and a little tempting.

To save time, she bent down and effortlessly lifted both Maya and Alfred, one in each arm.

Then, she quickened her pace and turned into a narrow back alley leading into an old residential area.

The alley was dim, with peeling walls and piles of clutter on both sides. No one had lived there in a long time, so it looked like the set of a horror movie.

The entrance to the alley fell silent, broken only by faint footsteps.

Wendy set the children down and deliberately raised her voice. “We’re home, kids.”

The moment she said it, the people behind them sped up, closing the distance. Their loose formation tightened and turned into an open encirclement.
