Chapter 107 Dramatic

George still refused to give up.

Maya rejected him again. “No. Every time we meet, you steal my food. And now you eat my lunch every day. When are you going to stop bothering me?”

“Why are you so picky?” he said, sounding a little helpless. Then he turned and went to a nearby store, bought three loaves of bread, and stuffed them into her arms. “Here. I’m returning it. Let’s call this my gift for our first meeting.”

Maya looked down at the bread in her arms and went quiet for a moment. “Why do you always give me such cheap things?”

Who gives bread as a gift?

“What kind of expensive thing do you want?” George actually thought about it seriously. “What about famous paintings? I can steal a few for you.”

“Steal?”

“Yeah.” He smiled. “You don’t expect me to buy them the normal way, right?”

Most famous paintings ended up in private collections after auctions. Even museums didn’t always display

real ones.

So instead of going to a museum, he could just rob Toby’s collection and bring her something.

He felt pretty smart.

Maya shut him down right away. “No thanks. I’ll take the bread. I need to get back to class.”

Holding her empty lunchbox and the three loaves, she ran off, trying hard not to call him crazy out loud.

Her hair was a mess now. Instead of fixing it, she just let it all down

Now she looked like a little wild kid.

On the way, she ran into Annie.

Annie stared at her messy hair in shock and grabbed her. “What happened to you?”

She clipped a hairpin onto Maya’s bangs and quickly fixed them. Now it looked much better.

“Why are you in such a hurry? What happened?”

Maya touched the new hairpin and thanked her. “Nothing. Just someone ate my lunch. I’m going to the cafeteria to get more food.”

At this kind of private school, food was always available. Chefs were there all day, ready to cook whatever students wanted. So, Maya and her brothers usually didn’t bring lunch.

But lately, Wendy had been learning new recipes, so Maya had started bringing a lunchbox and eating in the

garden.

“Did you hit him?” Annie asked.

“No. I couldn’t beat him,” Maya said honestly. “And he gave me three loaves of bread as an apology gift.”

Annie was shocked. “Why is he so bossy?”

And poor, too?

She frowned. “Is this some new kind of insult?”

Maya thought about it. “I don’t think so. He looked pretty serious.”

“Then maybe some kid from the advanced program is trying to impress you in a cheap way?” Annie guessed.

“No.” Maya shook her head. “He’s unemployed. A homeless guy who lives off picking trash near the school.”

Annie almost screamed.

“That’s even worse!”

She always divided people into simple categories-useful and useless.

A pushy poor guy like that was the worst.

Rich people weren’t always good, but poor men were even worse in her eyes.

“How can a homeless person get into our school?” she questioned.

“Maybe he’s a capable homeless person?” Maya said.

Like part-time crime or something.

“Anyway, I have to go to class.” Maya waved and ran back toward her building.

Annie stood there, unsure what to say. The whole thing sounded way too dramatic.

After Maya left, she turned a corner and almost bumped into Toby, who was walking quickly.

He looked like he had just come from outside. His face was colder than usual.

As they passed each other, Annie spoke first.

“Stop.”

Toby paused, then slowly turned around with a fake smile. “Do you need something?”

Annie was already annoyed by his fake smile.

She held back the urge to mock him and flipped her hair. “You’re always so busy. You probably don’t have

time to care about what’s going on with little girls, right?”

Toby had been busy lately-so busy he often skipped classes.

With his background, he didn’t need school at all. Top tutors taught him privately, and he didn’t care about degrees.

He came to school mostly to pass time-and to enjoy watching people try to please him.

But today, he had barely returned before Annie stopped him outside the classroom.
