The fifth floor was much quieter than the fourth. Thick carpet covered the hallway, and it made no sound when you walked on it.Â
The wall lamps gave off a soft yellow light, making the whole place feel warm. A few attendants stood by the stairway, dressed in neat uniforms, ready to help guests at any time.Â
“There are a lot of rooms here. And all the doors are closed. How are you going to find him?” Alfred said as he walked ahead.Â
Maya glanced down the long hallway and instantly felt dizzy. She quickly fixed her expression, then walked up to one of the attendants with a sweet smile.Â
“Miss,” she said, tilting her head up, her voice soft and gentle, “Who has the keys to the guest rooms? Could you help me open the door?”Â
The attendant looked down at the little girl in a fancy dress and a small black hat.Â
She gave an apologetic smile.Â
She said, “I’m sorry, Miss. We don’t have the keys. And those are private guest rooms. We can’t just go in whenever we want.”Â
Maya didn’t give up.Â
“My brother is Toby Clark.”Â
She tried to use his name to get her way.Â
The attendant’s smile didn’t change.Â
“That won’t work either,” she said, gently reminding her.Â
If Toby came in person, it might work.Â
But her, just a kid? Definitely not.Â
However…Â
“You’re free to do whatever you want. If something really matters, you can figure it out yourself,” the attendant added, her voice calm and polite.Â
She paused for a moment.Â
“As long as you can deal with consequences.”Â
Maya blinked.Â
She said, “Okay, I got it.”Â
So in the end, she had to rely on herself.Â

She had a feeling tonight was going to turn into a total mess.Â
The attendant gave a small nod and stepped back to the stairway.Â
Maya watched her leave, then turned to face the nearest door.Â

Alfred, standing beside her, saw her take a couple of small steps back in her heels. Then she grabbed her dress tightly in one hand.Â
He was still confused when he saw Maya suddenly lift her leg and kick the door open easily.Â
Bang!Â
The lock gave a dull thud. The door slammed into the wall, then bounced back, showing an empty room inside.Â
No one was there.Â
Maya didn’t hesitate. She walked straight to the second door.Â
Alfred stood there and watched for two seconds.Â
He said, “Oh, so that’s how you open doors.”Â
He had almost forgotten.Â
Their mother never liked opening doors the normal way, either. She would just break them open, and their father always had to fix them afterward.Â
“Is it a bit too much for me to look for someone like this?” Maya asked as she gathered strength, turning her head to look at him.Â
Alfred blinked.Â
He said, “No. It’s totally normal.Â
“It’s just kicking doors. Even if you lock down the whole place to catch someone, that’s fine too.”Â
Back then, when Edric was trying to catch George for gambling everywhere, he had brought people and shut down the entire casino.Â
A bunch of gamblers ended up squatting on the floor with their heads down, like they were being publicly punished.Â
He could have just grabbed George right away.Â
But instead, he treated it like a game. He didn’t catch George at once. He slowly pushed him into a corner, making him panic and run around. George even tried to jump out of a window to escape. In the end, George still got caught and was tied up tight and dragged into a car.Â
At the time, Edric had held Alfred by the collar and said, teaching him, “Don’t be like him.Â
“You’re a good kid. You don’t want to end up in jail with him, right?”Â

His voice was gentle, but his hand on Alfred’s neck felt cold.Â
Alfred nodded obediently. “Yes.”Â
Anyway, he didn’t like gambling.Â

After Maya kicked open the seventh door, someone finally tried to rush over and stop this out-of-control kid.Â
But Maya moved fast and light. Her skirt flared behind her as she ran.Â
A few people tried to stop her, more for show than anything. Soon, they realized they couldn’t do a thing about this little troublemaker.Â
The bodyguard in charge of keeping the two kids safe quickly made a call to report the situation to Tony. “Ms. Clark seems to have gone up to the sixth floor. She kicked open every room on the fifth floor.Â
“Do you want to come take a look? She’s… really strong,” the bodyguard said, a hint of disbelief in his voice.Â
A child being able to kick open the guest room doors like that.Â
This wasn’t just strong. It didn’t make sense at all.Â
Toby almost spat out his drink. “What?”Â
His voice jumped up a notch.Â
“What did you say she’s doing?”Â
“Kicking doors,” the bodyguard said. Then he added carefully, “She’s just kicking them. No apologies. Mr. Alfred is following behind her, kind of joining in.”Â
Yeah. Joining in.Â
To him, the two kids just looked bored and kicked doors for fun.Â
Well…Â
Rich people really do find strange ways to entertain themselves.Â
He went on, “Now a lot of attendants are trying to catch her. Not sure if they’ll call the police.”Â
Toby was stunned.Â
He tightened his grip on the glass until his knuckles turned pale. His voice went cold, teeth clenched.Â
“What is she, a little tornado? The second I look away, she’s causing chaos.”Â
The bodyguard kept his eyes down and said nothing.Â
By now, the sixth-floor hallway was already a complete mess.Â
