Chapter 140 Panicked

The attendants stood in the hallway, looking at each other, not knowing what to do.

Toby walked past them without a trace of emotion.

When he reached the sixth floor, he saw Maya lift her leg.

Bang!

Another door was kicked open.

He watched as Maya pulled her leg back, leaned in to glance inside, then turned without hesitation and headed for the next door.

Her movements were smooth and quick, like she was breaking into houses.

Toby was shocked.

Maya was unbelievably strong now.

You could see it in the way she could kick open a solid, heavy door with one strike.

Toby stood behind her, watching that slim leg explode with power. All the anger he had earlier started to fade into numb shock.

He found himself wondering…

If that kick landed on him, how many times would he cough up blood?

In the end, Toby decided it was better not to think about it. Ignoring the mess around them, he reached out and brushed the loose strands of hair off her forehead. His eyes narrowed. “What exactly are you looking for?”

She had kicked open so many guest room doors.

Maya turned around. When she saw Toby, her eyes lit up.

She said honestly, “I’m looking for my brother. He should be somewhere in here.”

“Are you sure he’s even here?” Toby then thought to himself coldly, What brother? Who knows where that random poor relative came from? Only Maya would care about someone that useless.

Maya tilted her head back. “Not sure. But I still want to look for him.”

As she spoke, she kicked open another door.

When she got to the fifth one, the room happened to be occupied.

Toby had been about to toss out a quick apology.

But before he could speak, the person inside started yelling first. “What’s wrong with you people? Why are you kicking doors?!”

Toby glanced at the clothes scattered on the floor.

Men’s clothes. Women’s clothes. Underwear. A tie.

“Are you that desperate?” Toby said coolly.

“You came all the way here just to sleep?”

With Maya causing this kind of chaos, of course, people were getting disturbed.

At first, as the older brother, Toby had offered a couple of half-hearted apologies.

Later, he completely gave up caring.

“Get lost! So what if we kicked your door?!

“Screw you!”

The bodyguards could only stand there, numb, watching these three rude Clark members-Maya kicking doors, Alfred watching like it was a show, and Toby doing the yelling.

Just like that, they strolled around and turned the whole floor into a mess.

It was total chaos outside, but the guest rooms had great soundproofing!

Lawrence bit down on the back of his hand, replaying that quick glance from upstairs.

It was Alfred.

The moment their eyes met, he recognized the boy right away.

But more than Alfred, what caught Lawrence’s attention was the little girl standing next to him.

She was wearing a layered dress, a tiny hat, and was nibbling on a piece of cake. No idea whose kid she was.

He couldn’t see her face clearly. The hat covered most of her head.

But Lawrence still recognized her.

He knew her too well.

So much so that his first reaction was panic. Pathetic, even. He quickly avoided Alfred’s gaze and ran into a room to hide.

Come to think of it, he and Maya hadn’t seen each other for a very, very long time. Maybe even years.

After dying once, seeing someone familiar again really did feel like a whole different lifetime, like it was all just a dream. It wasn’t an exaggeration.

For a long time, whenever he saw people, his mind would go blank. They felt strange, unfamiliar. He couldn’t tell what the present was and what the past was.

Chapter 140 Panicked

Now, when Lawrence thought of Maya, all he had were those memories-sad, but also warm.

And yet, it was strange.

Just seeing her figure was enough to make him panic and run away, his heart pounding out of control.

Honestly, he didn’t have to run.

Maya didn’t recognize him.

Of course, she wouldn’t.

So even if she saw him, it wouldn’t matter.

And he had grown up now. He wasn’t that clueless kid from his past life anymore-the one who would only cling to her and cry whenever something happened.

Lawrence bit down on the back of his hand. His curled eyelashes trembled with unease as he kept telling himself, over and over, It’s fine. Even if we meet, it’s okay.

As long as he controlled his emotions, didn’t show anything in front of her, and didn’t act strangely, then everything would be fine.

If she asked why they looked so alike, he could just say it was a coincidence.

Make up some random excuse and brush it off.

As long as he could control his emotions.

He told himself that, trying to clench his slightly trembling hands, telling himself it would be fine to see her like this.

But before Lawrence could finish preparing himself and open the door, the door was suddenly kicked open. Standing with his back to the door, Lawrence froze for a moment.

Maya had already lost count of how many doors she had kicked open.

Eleven? Twelve?

She couldn’t remember anymore.

She didn’t have much hope for this room either. The wall lamp inside gave off a dim yellow glow. It was clearly occupied.

What was rare was that the person inside hadn’t yelled at her.

Maya leaned in to take a look.
